Adult Swim Orders “Dream Corp, LLC” to Series

November 17, 2015
Uncategorized

(via Deadline)

Looks like rotoscoping is making a come back at Adult Swim.

The latest series that’s is now on Adult Swim’s docket is a workplace comedy set in a dream analyzation office where things are not so, pardon our pun, dreamy. We’re guessing that’s it’ll probably echo the offices of Lacuna, Inc. from Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind.

John Krasinki and Stephen Merchant are attached to executive produce and  award winning short film director Daniel Stessen.

The whole series will be rotoscoped, a la A Scanner Darkly, which will not only accentuate the focus on people’s dreams, but break new ground for Adult Swim.

Martin Short, Maria Bamford, Ron Funches, and James Adomian are just the tip of the tip of the iceberg in next year’s Moontower Comedy & Oddity Festival, taking place from Apr. 20th-23rd.

The tip of that line-up includes:

Ahmed Bharoocha
Joe DeRosa
Debra DiGiovanni
Sean Donnelly
Jo Firestone
Goddamn Comedy Jam
Anjelah Johnson
Jesse Joyce
Andy Kindler
The Lampshades
Matteo Lane
Annie Lederman
Joe List
Josh Adam Meyers
Jim Norton
Johnny Pemberton
Piff the Magic Dragon
Tony Rock
Jon Rudnitsky
Sklar Brothers

Apparently, that’s just for starters for this annual Austin, TX comedy festival meaning that there’s way more to be announced, hopefully soon.

You can get early bird passes ranging from $99-$499 right now and we’re going to guess that they’re not going to be around for long.

Rhea Butcher To Be First Correspondent on “No, You Shut Up! with Paul F. Tompkins”

November 17, 2015
Uncategorized
fusion, no you shut up, paul f tompkins, rhea butcher

Take note that Rhea will appear on the show in human form as opposed to all the other regular puppet pundits.

As No, You Shut Up! continues to delightfully evolve as a show, it has found itself bringing another non-felt being alongside host Paul F. Tompkins. The very funny Rhea Butcher, who we hope you know from Put Your Hands Together and her own stand-up, will be the very first NYSU correspondent.

Paul announced it during his interview on his former show Speakeasy while chatting with new host Russell Peters.

With Tompkins and Butcher, which we think has a very nice ring to it, season 4 of No, You Shut Up! coming next year should be a barnburner.

Get a Look at the Intense Board Game that Brent Weinbach Plays “Outside Comedy”

Brent Weinbach has one of the most innovative minds in comedy. His absurdist comedy is often seen by audiences without precedent and we have yet to see it not kill.

What keeps a mind like Brent’s occupied during his off duty hours? Thomas R. Wood’s Outside Comedy explores Brent’s hobby of playing one of the more suspense-laced board games around, The Resistance.

It only makes sense that someone who makes a point of never breaking on stage likes playing a game that heavily involves how good you are at lying.

Watch Conan’s Trip to an Armenian Marketplace Before “Conan in Armenia” Premieres Tonight

As you all well know by Conan O’Brien’s remote segments, Conan can take the most tepid of places and make it as full of tomfoolery just by himself.

The addition of his assistant Sona Movsesian who is trying to not be too embarrassed in the Conan in Armenia special that premieres tonight (11PM on TBS) only make Conan’s clowning around all the more apparent and joyful.

Just see what he does by going into a very tranquil Armenian market place.

This Trailer for “Zoolander 2″ By Itself Is Worth The 14 Year Wait

Zoolander came out 2001 and was so damn funny.

Then, over a decade passed before there were serious whispers of a sequel coming about.

Finally, it will have been 15 years later when the sequel comes out on Feb. 12th, 2016.

We only had to wait 14 years for the trailer, that was just posted this morning, and it is seems to pick up where the original movie left off with how hysterical it is. There’s an unbelievable turn by Benedict Cumberbatch and perhaps Justin Bieber’s most redeeming role in a movie yet, not to mention what’s done to Kristen Wiig and, well, we’ll just stop talking and let you enjoy it already.

Stephen Colbert Proves He’s a Worthy Successor to David Letterman in His Interview with Bill Maher

November 18, 2015
Uncategorized
bill maher, david letterman, stephen colbert, the late show

David Letterman always distinguished himself with his era of The Late Show  from the rest of the late night talk show landscape by interviews being allowed to get testy if the conversation found its way there. Dave wouldn’t back down and usually have the upper hand with anyone who sat across his desk.

Now, with Stephen Colbert at the helm of The Late Show, Stephen not only invites a dance in his conversation that can switch between sharp quips to pure sincerity on a dime, but invites intellectual and/or challenging guests on a more regular basis than almost anyone else on a late night right now. Stephen seems to pull off tight rope walking in his interviews quite well by making the conversation engaging, playfully jabbing them, and seemingly not even breaking a sweat if things get heated.

Not that any of you really doubted Stephen Colbert would be a great heir to The Late Show legacy, but you can now see it for yourself.

Watch Colbert put all of this on display as he chats with Bill Maher about Trump and being Catholic all while keeping the laughs coming.

Richard Linklater’s New Comedy “Everybody Wants Some” to Open SXSW

(via Deadline)

While there was the Gamergate influenced panel debacle, at least SXSW is kicking off the festivities with something big.

Everybody Wants Some, which has been touted as a spiritual sequel to Dazed and Confused, will premiere at the very opening of SXSW. Linklater is going back to the 80s in, fittingly for the festival, Austin, TX and following a college baseball team dealing with growing up.

If ever there’s a director that could make such a premise something amazing, it’ll be Linklater. If you want to catch the premiere at SXSW, free up your March.

There’s Going to Be an Indie Dramedy Inspired by David Foster Wallace’s “A Supposedly Fun Thing I’ll Never Do Again” Starring Bill Hader

Could you be more full of indie film buzzwords?

David Foster Wallace’s story “A Supposedly Fun Thing I’ll Never Do Again” following a father and son on a cruise bonding on several levels with has inspired a feature length film that will star Bill Hader with Me and Earl and the Dying Girl writer Jesse Andrews’ directorial debut.

Called “The Empress of Serenity”, we’re pretty sure that, if everything goes well, this is the sort of movie that will dominate the festival circuit and make it into limited release sooner rather than later.

As part of Seth Rogen’s annual big, celebrity filled Hilarity for Charity event to raise money to promote awareness and fight Alzheimer’s Disease, he put his buddy James Franco up to getting a Bar Mitzvah.

The whole event was taped in front of a live audience, full of bits as well as performances from Ron Funches, Kyle Kinane, Justin Willman, Miley Cyrus, and more.

We’re not kidding as you can see clearly in this trailer.

If you’re looking to see how the rest of Franco’s Bar Mitzvah went, you’ll have to look for it on Verizon’s go90 coming up soon.

DreamWorks Acquires T.J. Miller and M. Miller Davis’ “Ex-Criminals”

It’s about time that T.J. Miller was the star of a feature length movie.

Ex-Criminals is a project from T.J. Miller and writer M. Miller Davis (he was head writer on The Gorburger Show) that they’re both writing together for T.J. to star in. It’s going to be written as a feature following a very dysfunctional couple that are also bank robbers over at DreamWorks.

If you’re familiar with T.J. as a genie or a blue demon or bewildering morning news crews or in his stand-up or eating Italian beef sandwiches in record time on Conan, you’ll know that something really great could be brewing here.

We like where TruTV is going with this comedy thing.

Since they rebranded as a comedy network from playing Court TV a lot, TruTV has come a long way in, we think, the right direction. With Those Who Can’t from The Grawlix ready to come out next year, this latest announcement of their new series and pilot orders with people we think are really funny is even more exciting.

First off, Jamie Lee will be hosting 10 Things, a comedic countdown/breakdown of ‘out there’ topics. Then, Almost Genius will look into people that live up to the show’s title and will be hosted by April Richardson and Chris Fairbanks. On top of that, truOriginals: Inside Iconic Comedy will explore the story of the funniest films in the cinematic canon.

For pilots, they have Jon Glaser Loves Gear where the one and only Jon Glaser obsesses over outdoor gear and Naomi Ekperigin hosting Inside Caucasia where she dissects what white people like doing from the perspective of a black woman.

We can’t wait to see all of this soon.

While Seeso is a highly anticipated comedy subscription service from NBC, it would also seem that it’s an ancient, very secret society for only the highest order of comedians.

Just watch Thomas Lennon, Robert Ben Garant, Kulap Vilaysack, Cameron Esposito, Rhea Butcher, and Jonah Ray kinda sorta let us all know what’s up with this thing called Seeso.

Don’t forget that a Beta version will be free for us all on December to get us all hooked before we “join in”.

Mike Recine’s “Union Delegate” Comes Out Tomorrow from Comedy Dynamics

Comedy Dynamics has another really great release in Mike Recine’s upcoming album Union Delegate.

Recine has made his way through the NYC comedy scene ranks, seemingly, on the strength of how laid back he appears on stage while going to really weird and dark comedic corners in his act. In fact, Mike lures everyone in by sounding and looking normal enough, then very often going down a long, very colorful road of a metaphor or some observation. Such comedic stylings made for a really great album in Union Delegate.

No samples are available before its release tomorrow, but if you don’t want to take our word for it, watch his Conan set here.

Watch “Conan in Armenia” and See Yet Again Why Conan Should Get to Travel More

The Conan in Armenia special aired this week and is now online in full at TeamCoco.com or diced up into several great clips.

As you probably expected, Conan brought his legendary goofing around wherever he and his assistant Sona Movsesian went.

From an Armenian language course to taking requests from Sona’s family…

…to visiting an Armenian matchmaker per Sona’s family request…

…to buying an authentic Armenian rug…

…to trading some dance moves at an Armenian temple…

…to taking a necessary and respectful visit to the Armenian Genocide Memorial…

…to picking a “tasteful” painting at a flea market…

…to joining in the festivities at Armenia’s Yerevan Day as well as meeting fans that are also Syrian refugees…

…to attempting to herd some sheep…

…to showing of the spoils of their trip to Sona’s family, Conan and Sona’s visit to Armenia is a great showcase for Conan having a whole other show where he travels to the forgotten places amongst travel shows and makes great TV just by being Conan.

“The Meltdown with Jonah & Kumail” Renewed for Season 3 at Comedy Central

Feel free to high five or hug someone.

Another 8 episodes of The Meltdown with Jonah & Kumail are slated to come to Comedy Central in 2016 and, after all the food based bits, audience plants, and great stand-up, we can’t wait to see what Jonah Ray, Kumail Nanjiani, Emily Gordon, and the gang have got cooking next.

If they just celebrated their 5 year anniversary with a Frozen themed birthday party, complete with Jonah and Kumail in the same Frozen costume, we’re sure that’s going to be great.

David Rees gave Trevor Noah, The Daily Show, and, really, all of us a taste of how great Going Deep with David Rees is by demonstrating to Trevor how exactly to pet a dog.

As well as being entertained by Rees’ paper mache dog, we’re guessing that you’ll learn something as well.

Watch it here.

“I Don’t Care, I Like It” from Drennon Davis & Karen Kilgariff and “Union Delegate” from Mike Recine Out Today

Yes, you’re going to want to get both of these.

We thoroughly enjoyed I Don’t Care, I Like It from brilliant comedy music duo Drennon Davis and Karen Kilgariff and Union Delegate from NYC’s Mike Recine and think that you should buy these instead of indulging in pre-Black Friday sales.

They’re two vastly different albums, but we have a feeling that you’ll do a spit take laughing or literally slapping your knee when listening to them like we did.

Get I Don’t Care I Like It here and Union Delegate here.
