Take your song of the summer, whatever it is, and forget it. Then, replace with your suite of the summer as done by the endlessly talented Eban Schletter and his Amity Suite.

He played it recently at Paul F. Tompkins live variety show, Varietopia and it in place of lyrics that you can scream over and over, there’s plenty of twists and turns that will be fun to hum and see if you can get the timing right.

Watch it here.

Also take note of the announcement at the end that Tompkins’ Varietopia will return.

Jesse Case Starts a Podcast Documenting His Life While Having Stage 4 Cancer “Jesse Case vs. Cancer”

July 6, 2015
Uncategorized
jesse case, jesse vs cancer, podcast

Jesse Case is one of the funniest people we know and he is only 29. A month ago, he was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer and has now opted to share his experience via a podcast, which we’re so thankful for.

For all the attempts by movies, TV, and books at showing what having cancer as a young person is like, there are few things that you’ll probably hear that’s as funny, poignant, and unflinching like Jesse’s experience being stricken with what might be terminal cancer.

Few people outside of Bill Burr can pull off doing a podcast where they go and talk for an hour and make it endless entertaining and enlightening, but Jesse is one of those people and the situation he’s in should make it all the more intriguing for you to get into.

So, with all of this in mind, we urge you to make room among the podcast you routinely listen to and listen and subscribe to this brand new weekly podcast Jesse vs. Cancer.

“Drunk Stoned Brilliant Dead: The Story of National Lampoon” is a documentary by Douglas Tirola that will follow the long history of National Lampoon, which was so highly regarded and launched the Vacation and Animal House movies.

There is no word on a release date yet, but expect to have this run through indie and art house theaters in the coming months.

Disney Pixar’s Latest Short Film Will Be “Sanjay’s Super Team”

Not only does Pixar have a tradition of making touching, funny animated films that are more expressive and relatable than the most realistic CGI renderings have ever achieved, they also have a great tradition of putting a touching, funny short film in front of every one of their theatrical releases.

Whether it be Geri’s Game or One Man Band or La Luna or the latest one, Lava, that plays in front of Inside Out, they’re all synonymous with Pixar’s movies.

So, Disney Pixar just announced their latest short, Sanjay’s Super Team, will play in front of The Good Dinosaur this Thanksgiving.

As you can see from the first images, it looks like Pixar might have another award winning short film on their hands as well as something that echoes their beloved titles Toy Story and The Incredibles.

Dead Kevin Ponders What Happens When We Die, Sort Of…

For many, the prospect of what happens when we shove off from this mortal coil sparks complex, existential debate.

When it comes to sketch comedy group Dead Kevin, their thoughts on the matter are much simpler and offer much less explanation, if any at all.

Watch their kind of “meditation” on death here.

Speaking of which, this sketch is probably the closest thing that will get to thematically representing their name as we’ll ever get.

Prison offers ample time to reflect and hopefully reinvent. For one Matthew Stoneman, it brought him to learn Spanish, fall in love with Cuban music, and dream of making it big singing songs in Spanish in Cuba. Since then, he’s earned the moniker of the “Gringo Mariachi”.

The offbeat, often humorous journey makes for the undeniably fascinating story in the documentary Mateo directed by Aaron I. Naar.

Bounce TV Pulls “Cosby” Reruns

July 7, 2015
Uncategorized

(via Variety)

While it should come as little surprise that some proof of the rape and sexual assault allegations committed by Bill Cosby has finally found the light of the Internet, it’s surprising that we forgot that Cosby had a sitcom in the 90s.

Yes, there was the classic Cosby Show that propelled Bill Cosby from the revered stand-up comedian that he was to a full-fledged star.

Then, from 1996 to 2000, an era ruled by the primetime multi-cam sitcom such as Friends, Seinfeld, Will & Grace, and more, there was Cosby, which, despite awards nominations and one Emmy win, never gets brought up when revisiting the 90s that this generation seems, for now, to love so much. With that in mind, who knows what that NBC show that Cosby was developing before he started taking real heat for those rape allegations would have been like.

Reruns of the show were running on Bounce TV and, in light of the deposition where Bill Cosby admitted to buying quaaludes to have sex with women, have now ceased.

We won’t be surprised to see if a bunch of retailers start pulling his albums/specials either.

Harry Shearer Will Now Be Returning to “The Simpsons”

So, you can stop you’re speculating who does the best Mr. Burns and Ned Flanders voices.

After several weeks of what we can only imagine was a bunch of negotiating, Harry Shearer has signed the deal that will bring him back to The Simpsons cast for two more seasons and the option for two more seasons after that, just like the rest of the cast.

So, potentially, The Simpsons could stay in tact as is for 30 seasons.

Now, we’ll be curious to see if this makes it into the show through some clever, self-referential joke with one of the many characters that Shearer voices.

Superego’s Matt Gourley and Mark McConville Do Live Game Commentary For Pistol Shrimps Basketball as “Pistol Shrimps Radio” Podcast

Before you even start forming the question, you do not have to know sports to get into this. In fact, you don’t even have to be in attendance of the game that Matt and Mark are commentating on to enjoy it.

You’ve already probably heard about the LA based women’s basketball rec league that has gotten a lot of press from having The Pistol Shrimps (as well as the league’s dance squad, The LA City Municipal Dance Squad) that are filled with great comedy folks like Stephanie Allynne, Aubrey Plaza, and more.

Well, they now have a podcast of live in-game commentary, Pistol Shrimps Radio, done by two of the funniest people on podcasts/”venerable sports acknowledgers” Matt Gourley and Mark McConville who we’d hope you would know from the hysterical podcast Superego.

Here’s a whole episode on Soundcloud of what both sports fan and non-sports fan can enjoy so long as they both love absurdist comedic stylings.

They’re already ten episodes in, so listen, catch up, subscribe, etc.
