BAFTA LA are set to make a pretty good line of recipients for their Charlie Chaplin Britannia Award for Excellence in Comedy. Last year, Sacha Baron Cohen was honored with the distinction and it was just announced today that the one and only Julia Louis-Dreyfus will be the next in line to get the award.

If you’re not already watching Veep, hopefully this is another very forceful nudge in encouraging you to do so.

Timothy Hallinan’s novel series that follow private eye Junior Bender are not only getting adapting for TV, but are being done so by the amazing Eddie Izzard.

NBC has made a script commitment to the project thus far and we’d be curious to see it goes further as Junior Bender juggles being both a high class thief and a detective. If this ends up going to series, it might be act as a nice companion/foil to The Mysteries of Laura.

Interestingly enough, Izzard is not attached to star though the role seems pretty perfect for him.

The first look deal that Will Arnett’s production company Electric Ave. has at CBS has just paid its first dividends. CBS has bought their project that would adapt Johanna Stein’s How Not To Calm a Child on a Plane into a comedy series.

No talent is attached as of yet and the format (single camera or multi-cam) is still up for discussion, but perhaps this and Tommy Johnagin’s sitcom is the start of a new vein in comedy in development at CBS.

We’re not sure if Nerdist is trying to keep up with the pace of pilot and script orders of networks or not, but they might be well on their way to doing so.

Last week, Hound Tall with Moshe Kasher was Nerdist’s latest addition to their network of podcasts and now, Lies with Sara Schaefer is the newest addition in association with WNYC.

The show itself sounds like an absolute fun ride as Sara and a guest are required to lie about and improvise everything. The first guest is Jim Gaffigan who talks about beauty and gymnastics, two things that Gaffigan “exemplifies” completely, so you should listen and subscribe now.

James C. Strouse’s People Places Things will star Clement as a struggling graphic novelist that juggles family, heartbreak, etc. On top of that, there’s a very solid supporting cast in Stephanie Allynne, Jessica Williams, and Regina Hall.

It shouldn’t be surprising if this makes the rounds on the film festival circuit once it’s finished.

After having made feature length movies and going on a nationwide comedy festival tour, Funny or Die has just made their next step in expanding their brand with Funny or Die News.

Funny or Die News is “…very excited to discover and explore, crafting a world where news junkies and humor fans can find common ground,” according to Editor Dan Abramson.

There will be plenty of written articles that will give you all your news FoD style and there’s an accompanying Tumblr so you don’t have to add another bookmark to web browser.

Given the parallels between the two and their satirical bent, we’d be curious to see if Funny or Die News and Clickhole would ever have a hip-hop-style feud with each other.

Who knows what these kids will get into if Jon’s not home again?

Announced today by Feig himself on Twitter, he will be making a reboot of the franchise with an all female Ghostbusters squad. Katie Dippold, writer of The Heat and Parks and Recreation, is set to co-write the script with him, which means there is more traction in The Ghostbusters franchise towards seeing something on screen in the not so distant future.

Hopefully, that’s some time in late 2015/early 2016/soon so the drought of Ghostbusters in our lives can be over.

Rick Mclaren was a real man that really tried to form his very own Republic of Texas back in the 1990s. Of course, Texas is still a state in the U.S.A today, so his attempt did not go the way he had planned.

Given the remarkable, absurd actions he took in trying to stand off as a new governing body independent of the red, white, and blue, an indie comedy, The Republic of Rick, telling Mclaren’s story was made and has worked its way around the film festival circuit including Slamdance.

Watch the trailer for Republic of Rick here and ponder what their Ebola situation would be like in Texas if Mclaren had succeeded.
