Watch Comedian and Volunteer Firefighter Mike Vecchione on Conan

May 2, 2015
Uncategorized
conan, late night, mike vecchione, stand up

The latest comedian to be featured on Conan also saves lives from burning buildings?

NYC’s Mike Vecchione got to perform stand-up on Conan this week. Throughout the course of his set, not only will you have plenty of guffaws, but you’ll also learn that not all comedians daydream, get inebriated, and go through Netflix.

Some choose to be firefighters when they can like Vecchione.

Watch his set here.

Tonight is my one hour special #FullTimeMagic on @ComedyCentral at 12/11c. Also it’s #MayweatherPacquiao. Also we have DVR’s.

If you haven’t already gotten your own copy of Nate Bargatze’s one hour special Full Time Magic from CC:Direct, make sure to watch the premiere tonight on Comedy Central at midnight.

We’re guessing that Mayweather will have hit the canvas before then, so you won’t have to miss any of Nate’s special.

Watch Steve Martin’s Farewell to David Letterman

Just in case you wondering, Steve Martin’s still got it.

Save for some sort of big star studded musical number at the final episode of The Late Show, Steve Martin made his final appearance and chatted with his old pal David Letterman.

He even made a “touching” video tribute to Letterman both in what he has done and what he’ll possibly do.

Martin also had one “final gift” for Dave to remember him by.

While Letterman is gone in less than a month, we hope Martin will continue showing up on late night to do bits.

From July 31st to Aug. 2nd, not only is Spamalot coming to the Hollywood Bowl with Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Craig Robinson, and Warwick Davis in the cast, but Eric Idle will be joining in the fun as a narrator.

Maybe more members of Monty Python will give Spamalot a go in the future?

Unless it’s a lamp shaped like a leg, it’s not too often you get to see the unboxing of a major award.

In case you don’t know, most people don’t get to take home the statues they are handed at big time awards shows. Those are just for the cameras.

The actual statues that they put on display come much later in the mail and Weird Al Yankovic graciously gives us a look into how “elaborate” it is to get your Grammy in the mail.

Jimmy Pardo Signs Overall Deal with Conan’s Conaco

May 1, 2015
Uncategorized
conan o'brien, conanco, jimmy pardo

(via The Hollywood Reporter)

Maybe Pardo can now make an entire game show out of that one bit where audience members attempt to get asked questions by him.

Not only is Jimmy Pardo the longtime warm-up for Conan O’Brien as well as a regular guest, but he is now part of the Conaco empire after signing an overall deal.

For years, Jimmy has tried to develop various shows like Write Now!, The Weekly Awards, etc. and perhaps now has a better shot at getting those projects past being a pilot.

Pardo’s probably got a lot of very intriguing things that will come through this pipeline. Though we don’t know what it would entail, we’d imagine Jimmy doing some sort of game show named “Go Home and Google It”.

Samantha Bee Has an Emotional Goodbye at “The Daily Show”

The final chapters of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart are coming to a close.

One by one, longtime Daily Show correspondents have gotten offers to go solo and pursue their own show like John Oliver, Larry Wilmore, Jason Jones, and now Samantha Bee.

Being at The Daily Show longer than any other than correspondent, it was probably too hard to do the normal faux segment leading into a tribute that The Daily Show normally does.

So, they just cut to the montage. Watch Sam Bee’s final moments at The Daily Show here.

HBO Orders “Brothers in Atlanta” To Series

The lives behind musicians and music moguls seem to be the order of the day.

Lorne Michaels has lent his name successfully as a producer to the music biz comedy Brothers in Atlanta that follows Diallo Riddle and Bashir Salahuddin try to make it in various disciplines of music in Atlanta.

There’s clearly a trend here as FX already has Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll ordered to series and the undeniable beast of a series that is Empire set numerous records in its freshman season.

The addition of Brothers in Atlanta also makes for an interesting quilt of HBO’s comedy line-up as HBO will now have comedies poking fun at Washington D.C., Silicon Valley, and now Atlanta.

Now, all of this has us wondering what’s going on with Donald Glover’s similar sounding series ordered as a pilot at FX.

Broad City’s Abbi and Ilana to Host One Club’s Annual Awards Show

Now that Amy Poehler and Tina Fey have stepped away from the awards hosting game for a minute, Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer could do well filling their shoes.

The One Club is a non-profit organization that showcases the best in creative design, advertising, etc.

As the focus here is creativity, Abbi and Ilana should prove to be more than perfect hosts for the event. Maybe they’ll get a bunch of people on stage for a dance party?

We’re not sure what they got up their sleeve, but we do know this could be the beginning of being asked to host a whole slew of awards shows.

James Franco’s Weirdo Mash-Up Series “Making a Scene” Is Getting a Second Season at AOL

April 30, 2015
Uncategorized
aol, james franco, making a scene, renewed

(via The Hollywood Reporter)

We’re hoping that they’ll get weirder.

Amidst the dozens of things that James Franco juggles, his Making a Scene web series on AOL was one of the stranger, funnier things that Franco’s done. Genres, famous movies, characters, etc. were all mashed up to produce a scene with Batman and Beetlejuice or the diner scene from When Harry Met Sally except that Harry is meeting is Harry.

For the second season, fans will get to submit their favorite scenes from TV shows and they’ll go mashing up from there.

Something in the neighborhood of Breaking Bad and Arrested Development would definitely be fun to see.

So, Silicon Valley’s “Pied Piper” Is Hiring?

April 30, 2015
Uncategorized
hbo, now hiring, pied piper, silicon valley

Apparently, they’re looking to fill very legit sound positions for the company featured on the fictional show.

A few days ago, the Pied Piper site, an extension of the company that HBO’s Silicon Valley is centered around, got updated with some company profiles and more as, per the show’s storyline of bringing a new investor, they’ve got some dough to spend on upgrading Pied Piper.

So, if you’re a Core Compression Library Engineer, API Developer, Unit Tester, or a Video Hacker, Pied Piper is looking for you.

This might be an elaborate joke featuring a bunch of tech nomenclature or, perhaps, Silicon Valley is looking for more consultants to make sure their jokes are logically sound from a tech standpoint. We don’t have any details beyond the job listing.

Even still, maybe they’re going to build a real Pied Piper?

Forget imitating. Life might just becoming art in this case.

Kristen Wiig Goes on “The Tonight Show” as Khaleesi

How much do you wanna bet that the pre-interview for this didn’t go past, “Well, Kristen’s just going to come as Khaleesi.”?

In her tradition of showing up as famous personalities that she, seemingly on purpose, doesn’t research all that much, Kristen Wiig came on to The Tonight Show as Game of Thrones’ Khaleesi. It’s probably the best way to promote her movie, Welcome To Me, about a slightly abnormal person winning the lottery and making their own talk show as well.

Of course, Wiig didn’t disappoint and we’d like to think that Westeros would just come under this Khaleesi’s rule by her charm alone rather than the threat of dragons.

Watch it all here.

Paramount and Anonymous Content Developing Series Based on Mortician Caitlin Doughty’s “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes”

April 30, 2015
Uncategorized
anonymous content, caitlin doughty, cremation, death, mortuary, order of the good death, paramount tv, smoke gets in your eyes

(via Variety)

When it comes to humorously talking about death, the perspective you probably hear from the least is the mortician. Real life mortician Caitlin Doughty is changing that.

Doughty wrote a memoir about her time coming up in the mortuary business called Smoke Gets In Your Eyes & Other Lessons From The Crematory. If you’ve ever watched her Q&A web series “Ask a Mortician”, you’ll find that she’s quite cheery about talking about death and wants to dispel a lot of myths surrounding the inevitable end, probably not to the delight of someone like April Ludgate.

So, Paramount and Anonymous Content are partnering up to develop a series based on her memoir, which we’d imagine is a personal workplace comedy set in a mortuary.

We could definitely be on board for that.

James Corden Wants To Throw a Bar or Bat Mitzvah To Remember

Wandering into a stranger’s house went so well. So, why not?

James Corden and The Late Late Show want to top all the celebrities that make appearances or perform at several high profile bar and bat mitzvahs. On last night’s episode, he announced that he was taking submissions for anyone that wanted James, Reggie, and the rest of the Late Late Show crew to play their coming-of-age party.

If nothing else, we’ll get to hear James and Reggie’s take on some traditional Jewish music, which should be pretty great.

If Only People Thought What You Thought They Were Thinking, Life Would Be Great According to Meghan O’Neill

April 30, 2015

Apparently, Meghan O’Neill impressively makes a character out of everyone she sees and they all really dig her.

For College Humor’s CH2, O’Neill wrote and starred in a short that perfectly captures what we’d hope people were thinking if they ran into us on the street.

Unfortunately, real life isn’t a short film, but you can still enjoy Meghan’s “What We Think People Think About Us (But We’re Wrong)” anyway like we did.

Paul W. Downs and Lucia Aniello Are Writing a Female Led Spin-Off of “21 Jump Street” and That “Men in Black” Crossover Is in Development

You could ask “What hath Chris Miller and Phil Lord wrought?” but all of this could be just as self-reflexively fun as the original 21 Jump Street.

Paul W. Downs and Lucia Aniello who both write on Broad City and together comprised Paulilu are now set to write a female centric spin-off of the 21 Jump Street franchise. Don’t be surprised if the duo that ends up together resemble the duo of Broad City’s Abbi and Ilana.

Now that the dust has settled from the Sony hack of last year and the recent WikiLeaks dump, the development of a Men In Black and 21 Jump Street crossover movie has been confirmed. We certainly hope that there’s plenty of jokes within the movie poking fun at how ridiculous this project could be, which seems to be a stamp of Miller and Lord’s.

We’re not sure how much Jenko, Schmidt, Miller, or Lord will be involved, but we do hope that this bodes well for that 21 Jump Street sequel where they go to art school.

“Golan The Insatiable” To Be First Fox ADHD Series to Make It To Fox Primetime

Though Fox ADHD had to move over from Fox to FXx, it turns out Fox isn’t completely done with ADHD on their main broadcast network.

Golan The Insatiable will have a summer run on Fox in primetime and be the first series from Fox ADHD on the network since their airtime got cut. It will follow a monstrous creature from another dimension that becomes unlikely friends with a strange, little, troublemaking girl.

The pair will be voiced by Rob Riggle and Aubrey Plaza respectively along with a fantastic supporting cast of Ken Marino, John DiMaggio, Maria Bamford, Nick Rutherford, and Rachel Butera.

Golan the Insatiable is set to premiere May 31st at 9:30PM and offers a fascinating contrast to Fox’s other animated series on Sunday nights: Bob’s Burgers, The Simpsons, and Family Guy.
