Watch Marina Franklin’s First Conan Set

August 26, 2015
Uncategorized

NYC’s Marina Franklin has done more than a few rounds on the late night circuit, but she just marked her first set on Conan last night. It’s subtle, but her perfectly paced, cruise-like timing and cadence is pretty great to watch.

Watch her set here.

Mike Birbiglia Is Writing and Directing a Dramedy About Doing Improv “Don’t Think Twice”

August 25, 2015
Uncategorized

(via The Wrap)

If that wasn’t enough of a hook for you, take into consideration that the cast of this film will be comprised of Keegan-Michael Key, Chris Gethard, Kate Micucci, Gillian Jacobs, Tami Sagher, and Mike Birbiglia himself.

Don’t Think Twice will follow all the off-stage drama, jealousy, bitterness, etc. that often exists within an improv group.

If we we’re placing bets, we’d put a lot of money on this being an indie darling/film festival hit even though it has just gone into production.

Jimmy Kimmel Wants To Play One of Those Late Night Talk Show Games with Bob Odenkirk and Bob Doesn’t Want To

Bob Odenkirk would never leave a TV appearance hanging without a bit.

So, when Jimmy Kimmel asked him to play a made-up fun game that’s really popular on talk shows these days, Bob decided that’s not going to fly with him. It’s almost like he’s poking fun of another late night host who does a bunch of games whose name is also Jimmy.

Watch Bob refuse to play ‘Heatherball’ here.

Conner O’Malley, as a slimy manager named Max, has called cruise companies, Netflix, etc. in attempt to, sort of, get his client Joe Pera work on their web series How To Make It in USA.

Their latest episode has Conner do the most daring thing yet by coming up an X-rated version of a procedural CSI show, then going to CBS to pitch it.

Watch it here.

Yes, it looks like they really went to CBS Black Rock to do this.

In season one, they got weird with movies, so they’re on to getting weird with TV series including Freaks and Geeks.

James Franco’s experimental mash-up series Making a Scene on AOL Originals made for some really great, really weird hybrids like When Harry Met Sally being mashed-up with When Harry Met Sally to create When Harry Met Harry.

With the second season on the way, Franco and company have opted to mash-up random genres and some of your favorite TV shows including Married with Children, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, the aforementioned Freaks and Geeks that Franco starred in, Seinfeld, and more.

Watch the trailer for season 2 of Making a Scene here, then look for new episodes on Sept. 9th.

Upright Citizen Brigade’s Best To Be Featured in The UCB 4 Produced “The UCB Show” Taping Live This Week at UCB Sunset

You’re going to see long lines near Sunset and Western all week long.

Amy Poehler, Matt Walsh, Ian Roberts, and Matt Besser are putting together an in-house variety series that they’re calling The UCB Show.

Though the line-ups haven’t been announced, you can probably bet on most of the folks who have their photo hung in the lobbies of any of the four UCB theatres might be on the show like James Adomian.

The tapings are 7:30PM/9:30PM tonight through Thurs. at UCB Sunset. They’re free, but all the reservations are currently full. However, as with most UCB shows, there will be a stand by line.

Fortunately, because this is a taping, you’ll very likely get to see what the lucky hundred or so people will get to see this week.

We are already trying to imagine how the panel interview would go with Musk and Colbert in two weeks.

The premiere of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is just over two weeks away and in addition to George Clooney, Jeb Bush, and Kendrick Lamar, you’ll know also get to look forward to Amy Schumer, Elon Musk, Scarlett Johansson, Uber CEO Travis Kalanick, Toby Keith, Stephen King, and Troubled Waters being guests on the show.

As you all are, we’re curious about the latitude that Colbert will employ with his wit and persona. This line-up of guests should make for a great display of how Colbert will establish that.

Thankfully, they’re doing another Scrapisode this Thursday.

Make sure not to miss the wondrous chaos at 11PM Thursday on TBS.

Now that the bans on gay marriage have been overturned nationwide, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver turned their focus to the other bastions of discrimination that the keep the LGBT people of the country from having their full fledged civil rights.

The more that Oliver and his team keep this sort of thing up, the more likely that there could be some sort of class in high school or college where someone just turns on episodes of Last Week Tonight and the class just watches it.

Watch a Really Fun Trailer For Meta Horror Comedy “The Final Girls”

Do not confuse this with the recent thriller Final Girl.

The Final Girls, from director Todd Strauss-Schulson and writers M.A. Fortin and Joshua John Miller, looks a damn good time that both celebrates and simultaneously pokes fun at the genre tropes of so many cheesy horror movies from decades past.

From the looks of it, the cast of Thomas Middleditch, Alia Shawkat, Malin Akerman, Adam Devine, Angela Trimbur, Nina Dobrev, and Taissa Farmiga bring the crazy premise of being transported into a cheesy horror movie and trying to survive really well.

See what could be a very welcome load of wonderful madness in the trailer for The Final Girls here.
