We’re Doing a Nice Lil’ Storytelling Show at the End of the Month

There used to be a very healthy stable of comedy forward storytelling shows in LA and that has yet to come back to the sort of frequency that it had in 2019. So, we’re kinda manifesting that in a storytelling show we’re putting at the ultra-cool gift shop that is New Profanity in WeHo.

Called Other Day Stories, our very own Jake Kroeger will host and present tales from LA’s very best including Nori Reed, Ever Mainard, Will Hines, and Jackie Kashian.

This very first Other Day Stories will happen on Tues. Aug. 30th @ 7:30PM (Doors 7PM) at New Profanity. Tickets are $10 and you really ought to go get them here right now.

Pick of the Day: North Coast Comedy Festival (in NYC) 10/5-10/10

Sure, sure, there’s a big ol’ comedy festival coming to NYC in November that’s named after the city itself. However, that’s not the only comedy festival you should be looking forward to in the city. In fact, there’s a brand spankin’ new comedy festival having its debut this Tuesday 10/5 through Sunday 10/10, The North Coast Comedy Festival (and it won’t just be mostly stand-up).

In fact, it’s put on by NYC’s very own hip hop improv group North Coast and will feature so much of NY’s best sketch and improv (and some great stand-up too) including Astronomy Club, Borabish, The Shuffle, Will Hines, and so much more.

It’s all (and that’s 18 shows total) going down at Asylum NYC in Chelsea. You can get a festival pass for access to all the shows for $180 or get tickets to three of your choice for $49. Go get those passes and more details (including line-up and schedule) here.

Basically, some of the best improvisers in town will not only be in town, but will be doing one of the daftest forms of improv ever conceived and we’re down for it.

Will Hines, who we love for intentionally doing bad guitar solos with a great backing band, indeed will be doing improv with boxing gloves and perhaps questionable British accents (and one legit one) as play off of the UK’s Boxing Day the day after Christmas and we’re sure this will be a wonderful offering of top shelf silliness.

For our money, Boxing Day Improv at UCB Franklin is the perfect follow-up for that post-Christmas haze. Get tickets here.

The United States Constitution, while providing the basis of our government, is one hell of a complex, at times, infuriating document that will be debated to the end of time.

As such, it’s a perfect gold mine for comedians to dissect, which is exactly what’s happening at What The Constitution Means to You next week! A great panel of comedians (including stand-ups, improvisers, writers, actors, etc.) will attempt to make sense of constitutional precedents and decisions in order to become a “Chief Justice of Comedy”, as presided by host Max Sosna-Spear, “SCOTUS Justice” Carrie Poppy, and actual UCLA law professor Adam Winkler.

Sound pretty neat? Sure does. So, go get your tickets right now right here.

Please Enjoy Will Hines Desperately Trying to Eat a Sandwich in This Music Video for Joe Russo’s “PHÉR•BŎNEY LOVE THEME“

Well, Jonny Look does it again.

By “it”, we mean make another absurd, whimsical, and funny music video. We first saw this when he did it marvelously with the Fruit Bats last year.

This time around, he took the brilliant Will Hines and had him try to eat a sandwich, which proves difficult for indie jazz artist Joe Russo’s PHÉR•BŎNEY LOVE THEME. We won’t say anymore lest we ruin the mysterious charm (though we’ll note choreography is wonderfully done by Erin S. Murray).

Just let it wash over you and enjoy it here.

Will Hines is a renowned and celebrated improviser and comedic performer and has had such a reputation for several years.

However, in all of that time all the way up into the current moment, Will Hines has not been noted for his virtuosity in playing guitar, especially guitar solos.

Thus, that is why his experimental show Bad Guitar Solos wherein one Will Hines attempts his best at a guitar solo behind an actually good backing band was one of our favorite comedy things of 2018.

Hines is diving in yet again into Bad Guitar Solos this weekend on Fri., Mar. 22nd at 8PM at UCB Sunset’s Inner Sanctum. Admission is free, but, in our opinion, should be mandatory. Get more details here.

We weren’t kidding about that pull quote from our ‘100 Best’ list from last year.

F*ck This Late Night Show, the late night talk show that has an enemy force actively trying to ruin the show, was so damn fun.

They’re finally doing another version of it next week and you really ought to not miss it.

Tickets are only $5 and you can (and really should) get them here.
