Pick of the Day: LET’S MAKE A POOP FEAT. TRIUMPH THE INSULT COMIC DOG (NYCF) 11/6

October 25, 2023
News
new york comedy, new york comedy festival, nyc, robert smigel, triumph the insult comic dog

Many things will endure in the collective memories of Gen-Xers and Millennial fans of Conan O’Brien and one of the most unforgettable of those things would be the Robert Smigel creation that is Triumph the Insult Comic Dog. A grandmaster of the man-on-the-street style of interview, Smigel’s dog puppet covered hand and his vaguely European gravel-y accent and some of the sickest burns and a constantly dropped cigar made an indelible impression in the world of late night and still lives on in laughs when remembering things like Triumph hanging with Star Wars fans or going to any political convention.

So, it shouldn’t go without saying that a very special New York Comedy Festival evening with Triumph the Insult Comic Dog lined up for Nov. 6th at 8PM at the Murmrr Theatre should be an immediate buy. Take care of that at $31.14 a pop here.

It’s the first day of 2021 even though it feels like 2020 is still going on and doing it’s terrible, terrible thing, you can, if you’re up for it, try to start the year anew.

In that regard, we’d like to remind you of the first real big comedy event of the year (it’s still virtual, FYI): SF Sketchfest’s Festpocalypse. Coming in at the end of January right around when SF Sketchfest, one of the world’s biggest comedy festivals would normally happen, Festpocalypse will be a virtual event at a proportion that SF Sketchfest hasn’t ever done. Just take a gander at that line-up on the flyer. Even though it’s taking place over one day only, it really is a bill that they’d have at their normally scheduled, three week comedy festival extravaganza that takes over San Francisco.

Also, you should note that Festpocalypse is a fundraiser for SF Sketchfest to keep going in the future when doing a big time festival will be allowed.

Festpocalypse is set for Jan. 30th and will begin streaming at 5PM PT/8PM ET. Tickets start at only $20, but go up if you want to snag some merch. Go get them here.

Last Week Tonight, BoJack Horseman, and, with a renewed jolt from the election and Trump Administration, SNL winning WGA Awards seem to be expected.

However, Atlanta nabbing both honors for both Comedy Series and New Series is a really nice, big win for Donald Glover’s freshman series as well as FX, the rare basic cable network that can run with premium cable networks and streaming services when it comes to prestige programming.

FYI, their show The Americans won an award for Drama too.

Triumph the Insult Comic Dog Stopped by Trump’s Inauguration

Few are better at causing puckish mischief with a puppet than Robert Smigel and Triumph the Insult Comic Dog. All throughout this last election cycle, he made following the campaign trail a little more tolerable with his Hulu specials.

So, naturally, Triumph went by the Inauguration of Donald Trump as the 45th President of the United States and made this, as expected, amazing remote segment for last night’s Conan.

Well, it might be just perfect timing for a new election themed special from Robert Smigel and Triumph the Insult Comic Dog as the almost 64 million people that watched last night’s presidential debate are still trying to stop their head from spinning.

Triumph’s Election Watch 2016 just started streaming on Hulu over the weekend and not only focuses on Trump and Hillary, but Gary “Aleppo Moment” Johnson.

If you have a Hulu account (remember Hulu isn’t free at all anymore), you can watch it here.

There’s Bonus Footage/”Poop” from Triumph the Insult Comic Dog’s Recent Election Special

It turns out that Triumph’s Summer Election Special 2016 was so filled to the brim with material that there’s plenty of bonus footage or, as Triumph calls it, “bonus poop” involving the Westboro Baptists, Media Row,  a fake book signing, one more attempt to “help” Chris Christie, and more.

Fortunately, they’ve cut all of this together and made a special half hour so-called “Bonus Poop” available on Hulu.

Hulu Orders Another Triumph the Insult Comic Dog Election Special

(via Deadline)

We’re pretty confident this will outdo most other election coverage just like the first one did.

There’s not a lot to be happy about in this election. Even the onslaught of seemingly mandated comedy based off of the sad joke that the current presidential race is getting a little trying.

That being said, Robert Smigel with Triumph the Insult Comic Dog in hand was one of a few bright spots with the Hulu election special. Announced today, Smigel/Triumph will be doing another election special for the streaming service, which, from the looks of it, will probably be following Hillary Clinton vs. Donald Trump.

We’re sure that if they visit the GOP convention, whatever happens will be priceless.

If you don’t have Hulu or a Hulu password, this might a pretty good reason to get one.

Along this 2016 election’s campaign trail, the presence of a certain Yugoslavian Mountain Hound, his precarious cigar, and razor sharp tongue come in at a kind of a perfect time.

Robert Smigel’s Triumph the Insult Comic Dog went and made an election special that’s not streaming on Hulu and might be as productive as watching some of the debates.

If you have Hulu, you can stream the election special right now, right here.

This is the election coverage we both kind of need and deserve.

Thanks to Funny or Die and the existence of Triumph the Insult Comic Dog from the mind of Robert Smigel and the platform of Late Night with Conan O’Brien/Conan, there will be a comedy special covering the 2016 presidential race hosted by Triumph.

Let your mind run wild with how great and off-the-rails that will go.

The special will be called Triumph’s Election Special 2016 and will steam on Hulu starting next month.

We can only imagine what Smig– cough– Triumph has to say about his name being really close to Trump’s.

Rather than just enjoy a love day in a park on a park bench and wax poetic, Buscemi and his friends and family each get their turn to get burned by one of the best in the business.

In promotion of the upcoming Jack and Triumph Show on Adult Swim, Jack McBrayer, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, and Robert Smigel’s hair (Smigel is the hand and voice that makes up Triumph if you didn’t know) all made an appearance on The Tonight Show last night.

Triumph took every opportunity he could to work in a zinger even during a round of Catchphrase.

Our guess is that this is only a fraction of the fun trouble that Jack and Triumph get to on their own show.

We’re not exactly what format their show will take, but we’d be fine with just Jack’s politeness having to deal with Triumph’s 24/7 roast on the street.
