There’s a New Comedy Film Festival to Submit to in The LA Comedy Ninja Festival

From the early bird submission fees of $20-$40 (the prices will go up the end of this month), you can enter your films and screenplays, short and feature length, into the newest comedy film festival in Los Angeles, The LA Comedy Ninja Festival. 

If you’re looking to rack up those festival credits with your comedy film/screenplay here in LA, this might be a good place to start, especially since the last deadline is in January of next year.

Salt Lake City’s first comedy festival SLC Comedy Carnivale is still taking submissions up until July 15th. If you’re interested in getting into festivals as a comedic performer and it’s not too much of a hassle for you to get to Utah, then maybe you should get your submissions materials together for this.

They’re taking stand up, sketch, improv, and film by the way.

Amazon Studios Looking For Short Films To Be Adapted Into Features

Moving on from their newly minted stable of original web series, Amazon Studios is already expanding on to features by, much in the same way they got their web series, accepting submissions of short films to be adapted into full length feature films.

They’re looking for something 2-15 min. long that can be the basis for an entire movie and offering $10,000 if your project is put in development. 

We just thought it might be something some of you would be interested in.

Here’s a List of Film Festivals That Will Accept Your Shorts, Series, Sketches, and More If They’re Already Online

With the proliferation of sites like YouTube, Vimeo, and Funny or Die, it’s hard to gauge as someone who makes funny short films, sketches, web series, etc. whether it’s better to distribute your content online or try taking it to the festival circuit first. Several festivals immediately disqualify it if it’s already posted online making that a tough decision, but that is starting to change as this list as the link above shows.

Not only has the HollyShorts Film Festival is on it’s 9th year running and have a focus on the shorter forms of motion pictures (short films, mini docs, music videos, commercials, etc.), but there is a category specifically for web series/webisodes.

For those of you worried about your web series being taken out of context at a film festival, this might be for you. In fact, you can submit multiple episodes of your web series as long as the total running time is under 15 minutes.

Deadline for submissions June 7th.

1) In Portland, OR now for a week, technically on vacation. Just hope you all appreciate that we still haven’t missed a single day of posting since we started.

2) Watch out for this: @marcmaron Okay, I guess the cats out of the bag. There is a feature on me and the show in the new @EW. Dunno if its out on newsstands.

3) You can still submit something to RE:COM for a few more days. Get in by June 30th.  Don’t miss an opportunity to 1) to be a force/voice for comedy 2) see your name in print (that’s right it’s a print magazine).

4) Congratulations to Barbara Gray and her fantastic show One Two Punch getting written up in the LA Times.  Follow @BabsGray on Twitter to keep up to date when the next One Two Punch is as well as damn hilarious tweets.

5) Comedy Bang Bang has a blog about their podcast?!? Alternative comedy gone ever more self-reflexive…

6) Speaking of self-reflexive, this video by “comedy artist” by Charlotte Young was posted by the Daily What several days ago, but  who hasn’t thought they were bullshitting whatever they were saying at least once while on stage? Only the other week, I could have swore that I said on stage, “I have material that works, I swear."

It’s now 2011 and some of his best material is about his two daughters.  To anyone thinking wondering about development as an artist as a comedian, well, here’s a perfect example of how drastic it can be.

11) Last night I did 20 minutes that I would best describe as mostly nonsense riffing with a strong start and finish that I would most likely want to delete off of my phone’s voice recorder.  Yet, a real person (not a comic) came up to me and thanked me for making him laugh.  Despite what I thought, I didn’t correct him because, really, he’s right.
