Pick of the Day: Must Love Dogs and Comedy (in LA) 8/18

August 17, 2022
News
danielle perez, jolie dudley, los angeles comedy, mateen stewart, must love dogs, robby hoffman, stand up, Sydnee Washington, theresa bateman

Both live comedy and one’s dog bring a very concentrated dose of joy on their own. Together, potentially, they could make for an evening that will leave you smiling bigger than you ever imagined you might smile (so long as the pooches don’t bark at the comics?).

Must Love Dogs and Comedy, a dog friendly show based out of NYC, is giving Angelenos a chance at having their pups with them in addition to a stellar line-up of the LA comedy scene’s finest (as well as raise money for the Annenberg PetSpace Emergency Vet Fund).

This Thurs. Aug. 18th, host/creator Jolie Dudley will take over the Wallis Annenberg PetSpace at 6PM PT (doors at 5:30PM PT) with the likes of Danielle Perez, Mateen Stewart, Robby Hoffman, Sydnee Washington, and Theresa Bateman.

Not only is your dog welcome, but their will be free treats from JustFoodForDogs (as well as libations for humans too)

Tickets start at $25 and you can (and should) go get them here.

The Comedy Bureau Field Report Ep. 65: Robby Hoffman & Knowing Thyself

June 23, 2021
News, The Comedy Bureau Field Report
colbert, conan, late night, peabody awards, robby hoffman, ted lasso, ziwe

If you’ve come to a point of being so in tune with who you really are, as Robby Hoffman has, you might have fared well, personally and otherwise, during lockdown. Hoffman is so masterfully herself whether on stage or in the writers room or in her personal life that taking on the pandemic was akin to taking care of business.

Hoffman joins TCB’s Jake Kroeger for an exploration of Robby’s seemingly unflappable nature and the myriad of things she has been juggling this whole time from her call-in show on Planet Scum to her project Rivkah at Showtime. Also, “hot” takes on Ziwe getting renewed, Peabody Awards going to Colbert and Ted Lasso, and the final week of Conan.

Note/correction: Andrew Yang answered “Times Square” to Ziwe asking his favorite metro stop in NYC and Robby found that so very funny.

Robby Hoffman Series “Rivkah” in Development at Showtime

June 4, 2021
News
development, rivkah, robby hoffman, showtime

(via Deadline)

Robby Hoffman has been a favorite of ours for awhile now with her alpha-queer energy that’s undeniably hysterical to us. Even when she is taking over The Chris Gethard Show or pivoting towards a call-in show Robby Hoffman Consulting  Group on Planet Scum, Robby has been equal parts domineering and sweet and so damn funny.

So, naturally, it’s thrilling to know that Showtime and A24 have made another smart move (their last one being ZIWE) by developing a scripted series based around Robby’s real life going between her current life as a genderqueer LA woman and her childhood as a closeted girl in a very Hasidic community in Brooklyn.

Whatever the show ends up being, we hope that it gets picked up to series so we can see what Hoffman taking a leading role (like she deserves) looks like.

Also, note that Showtime is making some strong moves with their comedy brand as they have Desus & Mero, ZIWE, and potentially Rivkah.

advice, call in show, planet scum, robby hoffman

Dykevice with Robby Hoffman was and is one of our absolute favorite comedy live-streams throughout the entirety of this historic period of time we’re being subjugated to. Robby has proved to be one of the best sources of advice and McGill University ought to be proud to have Robby as one of their alumni.

This is just a friendly reminder that the show is still happening every Thursday, streamed live from Planet Scum at 7PM PT/10PM ET, but is doing so now under the new, slick moniker of “Robby Hoffman Consulting Group”. You can still call in or even leave a voicemail in order to get advice from Robby as well as the RHCG loyal who delightfully assemble every week to solve all your problems whether they’re the biggest or smallest in your life.

When all is said and done, you can (and should) donate to support the show and give thanks for the, honestly, priceless advice bestowed upon you from the Robby Hoffman Consulting Group.

To keep in the Halloween spirit (and do a show safely while the pandemic still rages on), Drew Anderson and Julia Shiplett are putting together a very special, very exclusive live reading of their comedy pilot, SALEM.

You may not get to do trick-or-treating or endless party-hopping, but you can tune in what might be the perfect comedy thing for this Halloween season. They describe it as:

Mere days before Salem’s 10th Annual Harvest Festival, something strange happens that derails the big day and makes everyone start to question if there could be a witch among them. If you’ve ever wondered what THE CRUCIBLE meets THE OFFICE but very gay would be like, SALEM is your answer.

Supported by many of the very best comedy folks from all over the country including: Mary Beth Barone, Carmen Christopher, Drew Droege, Robby Hoffman, Molly Kearney, Langston Kerman, Marty Miller, Aparna Nancherla, Larry Owens, Rachel Sennott, Karolena Theresa, Sydnee Washington, and Ben Wasserman

When Robby Hoffman is given the reins to any sort of talk show format, you’re in for a real treat. Her dominating persona whips up some truly beautiful chaos that Hoffman wrangles almost effortlessly. In the before times, Hoffman was doing just that with her take on The Chris Gethard Show aptly called The Chris Gethard Show with Robby Hoffman.

Now, Robby is set to bring this vibe into live-streamed comedy with a weekly lesbian call-in advice show called Dykevice with Robby Hoffman. Robby will indeed be taking calls a dishing out plenty of hot, spicy advice no matter what the situation might be. Dykevice with Robby Hoffman will live-stream every Thursday from Planet Scum at 7PM PT/10PM ET. Tune in here.

Robby Hoffman is at it again.

“It” being commandeering beloved and retired The Chris Gethard Show to do her own version of the show, which is arguably a very on-brand TCGS to continue to the show.

Hoffman’s version of the show gets into similar beautiful and hilarious chaos that Gethard did, but does so with her own cheeky alpha energy. Also, special guests could range from comedians, actors, etc. all the way to real estate agents making for a truly unpredictable, but downright hysterical night.

Tickets usually sell out for this, so best go get them for $12 right now (even though the show is a month away).
