Birdgirl, the new spin-off to Harvey Birdman, officially kicked off as Adult Swim’s latest series and it arrived as a spunky and very welcome addition to the list of things to keep an eye while still in lockdown.

Whether you’re a fan/acquainted with Harvey Birdman or not, Birdgirl leading the charge to save the world, but also doubling as the CEO of Sebben & Sebben is a splendid, over-the-top, yet subversive and timely adult animated action/adventure series. Paget Brewster‘s Birdgirl is undeniably charming as is the supporting cast of Rob Delaney, Kether Donohue, John Doman, Negin Farsad, Tony Hale, and Lorelei Ramirez. There’s also just a lovely tinge of heart to the show, at least from this pilot that you can stream on YouTube at your convenience, that is part of doing a 2021 spin-off of the entertainingly absurd Harvey Birdman.

Go see it all for yourself in Birdgirl’s pilot here, then look for new episodes to air on Adult Swim on Sundays at midnight.

Tig Notaro Might Have Another Show Over at ABC with Pilot Production Commitment Set for “Thicker Than Water”

Tig Notaro along with her co-EP on this project Cara DiPaolo are aiming for a dramedy exploring the American experience centered on the center of the U.S.

From the premise of meeting half-siblings for the first time at a funeral, Thicker Than Water almost seems like a natural progression from Tig’s last show One Mississippi.

Right now, it has a commitment for a pilot at ABC, but if it goes to series, maybe it could end up being ABC’s answer to This Is Us (in dramedy form).

Tom Segura & Christina Pazsitzky Get Put Pilot Order for “The Little Things” at CBS

Tom Segura and Christina Pazsitzky, both very funny stand-ups in their own right (go watch the four Netflix specials between the both of them in case you’re not familiar), are now in development for making a sitcom based on their lives married to each other and raising kids.

Fans of their hit podcast Your Mom’s House ought to be especially excited as there is a decent chance you might get to see them together on screen in a scripted series as opposed to just a recording studio.

Also, we’ll be curious to see what they’ll be able to do/get away with over at CBS (or maybe CBS is getting set to be a tad bit more edgy with their sitcoms?).

Jerrod Carmichael Set Up Two Put Pilots at Fox Starring Lil’ Rel and Nate Bargatze

In the span of a few weeks, Jerrod Carmichael has three pilots being made for three different stand-up comedians from an overall deal he has at 20th Century Fox TV.

It was only a couple of weeks ago that a Hulu pilot for Muslim comedy with Ramy Youssef got ordered.

Just this afternoon, Fox announced two put pilots from Carmichael. One (via Variety) is starring and will be based on the life of comedian Nate Bargatze (Carmichael is attached to write and produce). The other (via Deadline) will star Lil’ Rel from The Carmichael Show and will be written and produced by Lil’ Rel, Josh Rabinowitz, and Kevin Barnett (Carmichael and Mike Scully are attached as EPs).

If all three go to series, Carmichael will be the latest stand-up comedian to become a legitimate TV power player.

Liz Meriwether and Lake Bell Are Teaming Up on Newlywed Comedy “Bless This Mess” and Have Scored Pilot Production Commitment from Fox

The creator of New Girl and the writer/director In a World… have got a new sitcom focusing on a newlywed couple escaping from NYC to Nebraska.

Meriwether wrote the pilot and Bell is attached to star and direct.

We’ll be curious to see if this will be done in black and white and maybe take any other cues from Alexander Payne’s Nebraska.

Jax Media Is Making a Colin Quinn Pilot ‘Luncheonette’

Following up the great special New York Story, Colin Quinn is starring and has written a pilot Luncheonette where he plays an ex-cop coffee shop owner. Jax Media, the company behind Full Frontal with Samantha Bee and the developing of a Robin Thede show, is producing it and might just have a great 2017.

Over the last few years, Quinn has extended himself wonderfully all over the place between acting, writing, and performing solo shows, which makes the prospects for what Luncheonette might be very exciting.

If you think about it, it could be a sequel-of-sorts to both New York Story and Cop Show.

Jason Alexander Gets to a Whole New Level of Weird in “The Mark Lembeck Technique” Pilot on Adult Swim

Adam Lustick wrote a comedy pilot “The Mark Lembeck Technique” that dives into the mind of a therapist who suffered a mental breakdown and is convinced that he can still offer people help as a therapist despite his reality being fractured.

It’s right up Adult Swim’s otherworldly, mischievous, weird alley.

Jason Alexander stars as Mark Lembeck and really hits the mark with being the bizarre, but sweet old man.

You can watch the whole thing at AdultSwim.com now.

From Chicago-to-LA comedy transplants Joe McAdam and Chris Stephens, this TV pilot directed by Ty Greene called Butt is a nice slice of precise absurdist humor, free of fear mongering and politicking. Oh, some of it might be NSFW.

Please watch and enjoy Butt in its entirety here.

Nightly Show Head Writer Robin Thede and Chris Rock Are Making a Weekly Comedy News Show Pilot “The Rundown with Robin Thede”

While this is being announced as “…a fast-paced half-hour look at the week’s headlines, celebrity newsmakers, social media buzz and pop culture trends,” don’t be surprised if Thede and Rock have something more clever up their sleeves.

Since the cancellation of The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore, there seems to be a void where Wilmore’s voice once was in late night. The precision of Last Week Tonight and the unapologetic fire of Full Frontal with Samantha Bee have cemented their places in late night, but it would seem that The Nightly Show just didn’t get enough time to figure out where it fit in the post-Daily-Show-with-Jon-Stewart world.

Now, with this pilot being made and shopped around with Chris Rock on board, Thede might just pick up the baton that Wilmore had to set down.

ABC Orders Put Pilot From Morgan Murphy & Tim Story

Family having to return/leave home is the basis for an entire sub genre of sitcoms. While that theme is endlessly relatable, tackling it now from an intriguing, original, and engaging angle is a very formidable challenge.

That being said, we hope that ABC and Tim Story will let the hysterical Morgan Murphy push for a whip-smart sitcom that doesn’t pull any punches in this put pilot.

Take note that some of the best and darkest jokes on Two Broke Girls are penned by Murphy and if you’ve ever seen her stand-up, you’ll know that there is potential for her to make something really worth watching.

“Heathers” TV Adaptation Gets Pilot Order at TV Land

In its dive into original programming, TV Land is definitely distancing themselves, in regards to tone, content, etc., from the old reruns more and more.

The latest development for original comedy over at TV Land is the upgrade of a TV adaptation of the 1988 dark comedy Heathers from a script order to a full pilot order. Interestingly, it’ll be an anthology series as opposed to following a single group of ‘heathers’ and be written by Jason Micallef, the writer of the dark comedy Butter.

Given Winona Ryder’s recent return to the limelight from Stranger Things, we also have to imagine that she’ll make some sort of cameo.

Full Frontal with Samantha Bee and Angie Tribeca seems to be off and running quite well, so TBS is now setting its sights to launching its latest series, The Detour from Daily Show alums and comedy power couple Jason Jones and Samantha Bee.

For starters, the network is starting off nicely by putting the entire pilot on YouTube before the premiere next week.

If that gets you hooked, catch the premiere at 9PM on Monday, April 11th on TBS.

Last year, Todd Glass got a chance to take make a TV pilot out of his wondrous podcast known as The Todd Glass Show.

Unfortunately, It didn’t get picked up.

We’re not quite sure why as Glass really made his free-wheeling format fly with a plethora of bits and bits within bits and bits about running away from bits, Eddie Pepitone living in a van, sweaty karaoke, James Adomian voicing a more sinister Dr. Phil, and more.

Luckily, we get to see a short version of the pilot thanks to Jake Adams runs the sound effects, a very intergral part of the show, on The Todd Glass Show.

Hannibal Buress had been working for awhile on developing a show at Comedy Central in which he would be the focal point. As you know, he eventually got Why? with Hannibal Buress off the ground.

Before that, Hannibal had a pilot for a show Unemployable where Hannibal attempts other jobs while having no real work experience outside of comedy. It didn’t get picked up, but after watching it we sincerely hope that it gets picked up somewhere else.

Watch the pilot here to see what we’re talking about.

The Rogen/Goldberg comedy empire continues to grow.

This latest project, Future Man, from Seth and Evan focuses on a janitor who is also a world-ranked gamer tasked with saving humans from being wiped out according to visitors from the future.

So, a mix of Terminator and a better, more thought-out version of Pixels?

Hulu has ordered a pilot, but talent has yet to be attached, which we’ll hope is the normal cavalcade of comedy stars/friends that Rogen and Goldberg routinely get.

Jason Alexander as a therapist who snaps and then still treats people? We’re on board.

Adult Swim’s latest pilot comes from Adam Lustick who you’ve probably seen on Harvard Sailing Team and will indeed have Jason Alexander as a therapist who just loses it, but still takes on his patients, giving them crazy advice on how to go about their lives.

Somehow, this seems to mirror any and all who took any actual advice from George Costanza and applied it to their real life.

We’ll keep our fingers crossed as long as we can in the hopes that Johnagin gets a series order.

Note how Schumer, with her series, stand-up, Trainwreck, and now this series is slowly building an empire.

AMC is moving forward with their potential foray into comedy as the comedy pilot We Hate Paul Revere has just got itself one fine director in Matt Piedmont. Piedmont co-created, co-wrote, and directed the fantastic mini-series Spoils of Babylon on IFC.

Given AMC branding and Piedmont’s pedigree, we’re incredibly curious to see what the end product is here and how great, like Spoils of Babylon, it will look.

Hulu Could Possibly Land a Show Written by Judd Apatow, Lesley Arfin, and Paul Rust Starring Gillian Jacobs

As far as Hulu’s original series go, this would be a great get. A pilot entitled Love, which is produced by Judd Apatow and co-written by Judd Apatow, Lesley Arfin, and Paul Rust might move forward with Gillian Jacobs as its star pending a few potential contractual and scheduling conflicts.

Basically, we’ll have to see what happens with Community to find out what happens with Love.

Jerrod Carmichael Comedy To Get New Pilot At NBC

While they’ve passed on his first pilot, NBC is wisely keeping Jerrod Carmichael around for another pilot. We’re glad this is happening instead of letting him go to some other network like John Mulaney.

Hopefully, in this case, the saying will go, the second time is the charm.
