Pick of the Day: Doughboys Munch Madness Finale 3/23

News

The pandemic has taken away so many things away from us all, but one thing that has absolutely endured is fast food. In fact, several fast food establishments have thrived during this time and, along with them, the best podcast about chain restaurants, Doughboys with Nick Wiger and Mike Mitchell, thoroughly endures.

With that in mind, Wiger and Mitch have also put on another round of their hallowed, but chaos-filled annual fast food tournament, Munch Madness. As the pandemic is still happening, they’ll be doing a very special LIVE, virtual edition of the finale of Munch Madness via On Location Live. The showdown of the most addictive, cheap food is set for Tues. Mar. 23rd at 5PM PT/8PM ET.

Tickets for livestream access are only $15.75 and you can (and should) get them here (NOTE: you’ll be able to stream it for a week if you can’t watch it live).

Pick of the Day: 6th Annual High & Mighty Thanksgiving Eve Power Hour 11/25

The annual tradition of Jon Gabrus doing a power hour live on stage with friends is one of the few things that we look forward to Thanksgiving week. Normally, we’d get to see the madness take place on stage and secrets and wild things run amok during the whole time.

As a stage show can’t happen in a proper venue, Gabrus will be doing this year’s High & Mighty Thanksgiving Eve Power Hour virtually and we have no doubt they’ll revel in the chaos of taking a shot of beer every minute for an hour just as much as they have in years past. Joining Gabrus for this Sixth Annual (and first virtual) Power Hour will be Mano Agapion (Drag Her!), Nicole Byer (Why Won’t You Date Me?), Mike Mitchell (Doughboys), Betsy Sodaro (A Funny Feeling), and Nick Wiger (Doughboys).

Also, this year’s show will be donating proceeds to a great org, The Okra Project.

High & Mighty Thanksgiving Eve Power Hour is set for Wed. Nov. 25th at 6PM PT/9PM ET (you’ll be able to watch the live-stream up until Sun. 11/29 at midnight). Tickets are $10 and you can and very much should get them here.

“How Did This Get Played?” Is Really Worth Listening to No Matter How You Feel About Video Games

Hosts Heather Anne Campbell and Nick Wiger, as a sort of sacrifice for humanity, have subjected themselves to playing the worst video games of all time (many of which that deserve to be buried in sand more than the infamous video game of adaptation of E.T.) to bring you very satisfying hour of dissecting just how truly bad these games are on the new podcast How Did This Get Played?.

Sure, it’s a Sisyphean task for Heather, Nick, producer Matt Apodaca, and a weekly guest, but the anguish that every one of these video games cause is a pretty great bit of dark, existential humor, especially since you can often feel the rancor they have for having to revisiting these beyond-the-bottom-of-the-bargain-bin games. Such titles include Leisure Suit Larry, Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker, Superman 64, and so much more (yeah, there are so many bad video games). You can be a hardcore gamer or barely interested in video games and we’re will to bet that How Did This Get Played? would make for a really good listen.

The name of this podcast, derived from the beloved movie podcast How Did This Get Made?, definitely had a high bar to reach, but most certainly delivers on ripping apart those best/worst video games.

Episodes for How Did This Get Played? drop weekly from Earwolf.

Nick Wiger and Mike Mitchell are returning once again to the Hollywood Improv stage on Sun., Mar. 24th at 7PM to do another live episode of their cult comedy, chain restaurant podcast Doughboys. Of course, those in attendance will be witness to more (i.e. the eternal love-hate relationship of Nick and Mike as a result of this podcast) than just some thoughts on some long time LA food chain (maybe Zankou Chicken finally?)

Tickets are $25 (plus 2 item min.). Go get them here quick.

Heather Anne Campbell, Nick Wiger, Ryan Perez, Marques Ray, Danny Jelinek…

…Lauren McGuire, Yamara Taylor, Carl Tart, and Rachel Lee Goldenberg are the additional writers/directors/cast of Party Over Here on top of The Lonely Island, Paul Scheer, and Nicole Byer/Alison Rich/Jessica McKenna.

That’s some of UCB and Funny or Die’s best that make this new late night sketch series at Fox even more enticing.
