One of the best recurring collections and publications of short form humor and literature adjacent to that has been, for a quarter of a century, McSweeney’s Quarterly Concern. Authors and humorists alike including Michael Ian Black and Joyce Carol Oates have been included in its pages for two and a half decades.

To celebrate, McSweeney’s has enlisted celebrated and renowned humorist John Hodgman and The Magnetic Fields’ Stephin Merritt to mark their 25th Anniversary to be held live (and on live-stream) at Symphony Space (Peter Jay Sharp Theatre) on Wed. May 10th at 7:30PM ET/4:30PM PT.

Join in for the high brow merriment and esteemed evening of the written word (and many other art forms) starting at $32 (and $25 for live-stream). Discounts for Symphony Space members available. You can and should go get tickets here and make this Wednesday in May one of your classiest evenings that entire month.

Please Enjoy This Short Film “I’m An Expert Haggler at Garage Sales” Based on a McSweeney’s Article

Last year, Jory John wrote this McSweeney’s article entitled “I’m An Expert Haggler at Garage Sales” that played out a scene of either the most shrewd bargain hunter at a garage sale or someone that you would probably want to punch in the face that happens to be at a garage sale.

The article has since been adapted by Jory John into a pretty great short film directed by David Jude Harris starring Matt Ingebretson (who you probably recognize if you’ve been following us for awhile) and Diane Sellers.

Pray that you never have to be at or hold a garage sale where this expert haggler is at.

Between nailing roles as different neurotic or anxious people a few years ago, Jesse Eisenberg has been writing a short stories focused for McSweeney’s called Bream Gives Me The Hiccups: Restaurant Reviews From A Privileged Nine-Year-Old.

Eisenberg is now adapting these into a series for Amazon Studios. This adds to the big names that Amazon has been lining up on their development slate like Woody Allen.

It would seem that this is probably going to be live action, but it could work just as well animated. Either way, Amazon needs to get to its next cycle already.
