Pick of the Day: The Green Room with Paul Provenza (Nowhere Comedy Live-stream) 7/23

July 11, 2022
News

It has been far too long since The Green Room with Paul Provenza has been on the air. A groundbreaking series on Showtime that showed comedy panel shows can work in America so long as it’s more of an open, unstructured conversation not unlike that between comedians in a typical comedy club green room.

Thankfully, Paul Provenza (director of The Aristocrats, author of ¡SATIRISTAS!, producer of Set List: Standup Without A Net) has transformed his backyard into the perfect place to have a live version of The Green Room (and has brought us at The Comedy Bureau on board) to bring back those one-of-a-kind conversations between all sorts of great comedians from all backgrounds, generations, and ideologies, etc. You’ll be able to watch this particular version of The Green Room with Paul Provenza virtually via Nowhere Comedy, as it will eb done in front of a live audience in Paul’s own charming compound.

Going live on Sat. Jul. 23rd at 7:30PM PT/10:30PM ET with Christina Catherine Martinez, Kira Soltanovich, Jamie Kilstein, and Ben Gleib, as well as, of course, Paul Provenza, there will be stand-up and then the signature panel conversation between all the comics. Tickets are $10 right now, but you can snag VIP tickets where you can ask the panel a question for $30. Go get them here and revel in and enjoy the return of the one and only Green Room.

John Fugelsang and Jamie Kilstein Have the Politest Debate About Existence of God on Totally Biased

W. Kamau Bell has just gotten back with Totally Biased and already going for religion, well, sort of, as he faced off comedians John Fugelsang and Jamie Kilstein in a debate or more like trading jokes back and forth.

We’re not sure they came to any sort of conclusion and it definitely didn’t come to blows, but it was pretty great and shouldn’t (hopefully) offend any of you. Watch the “debate” here.

1) While comedy has almost seem to taken Labor Day off, Patton Oswalt’s Finest Hour is airing tonight on Showtime at 10PM.  That should cover most of your comedy needs for tonight.

2) Jamie Kilstein’s album “Libel, Slander, & Sedition” is available for pre-order on iTunes before it’s release next week.  Interestingly enough, I think the title of this album gives a pretty good job description of a comedian.

3) First off, we are glad that local LA comedian Stretch Shp is recovering from violently being mugged last week.  Still, Stretch is a perfect example of how many comics need to do comedy no matter the circumstance as (pic below) he performed with stitches in his head last night.

4) Keith Apicary’s Apicarnage gets reviewed by ScrewAttack.com before he goes on his nationwide tour.

5) Another site, Swagger.LA lists some of our favorite shows to go in LA even though they call them “alternative”. See why we hate this label here.

6) ON THE HORIZON
The Moth @ Zanzibar Wed. Sept. 7th 6:45PM Doors/7:30PM Start $8-Get there an hour before, it will be crowded. Also, lottery determines 10 storytellers to perform.

7) COMEDY CRAWL
Brunch @ The Park Restaurant 9PM FREE

8) OPEN MIC RUN
MARTY’S/THE OPEN MIC 7351 W. Sunset Blvd., Hollywood, CA (walk up Martel past Big Mama’s and Papa’s)/5PM to 11PM/$5 min./multiple sets allowed/bottled water and coffee provided
RAINBOW BAR & GRILL 9015 W. Sunset Blvd., Hollywood, CA/Sign-up before 8PM/Starts 8:30PM/$2 cover/Mixed mic

9) I think we just became self-aware today of the fact that there are things other than comedy.

Not to discourage anyone from doing open mics, but sometimes you to just power through it, no matter what’s happening. This picture above of hilarious comedienne Barbara Gray was taken during a live show at the Downtown LA Artwalk on Thurs.  Here’s a recap from last night from another open mic, iCandy, that takes place in Long Beach every Friday that had the type of heckler that starts another show while the first show is still happening.

5) If you haven’t checked out any clips for the upcoming Comedy Central series “Jon Benjamin Has A Van”, you can now thank the Comedy Bureau later.

11) So I’m going up tonight in a place accessible only by alley in Garden Grove. I’m not worried so much about being mugged as what I’m supposed to relate to people that frequently walk to their homes via alley ways.
