This weekend, the Television Critics’ Association handed out their annual round of awards for what they think the best and brightest in TV is. We’re not sure how much influence this will have on the Emmys (the same goes for any other TV awards for that matter), but we do hope this bodes well for the trailblazing Full Frontal with Samantha Bee.

Below are the comedy winners for the 2016 TCA Awards:

-Individual Achievement in Comedy: Rachel Bloom (CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND, The CW)
-Outstanding Achievement in News and Information: FULL FRONTAL WITH SAMANTHA BEE (TBS)
-Outstanding Achievement in Comedy: BLACK-ISH (ABC)
-Career Achievement Award: Lily Tomlin
-Heritage Award: THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW (CBS)

Here’s the full list of winners.

Full Frontal with Samantha Bee to Do Hour Long Election Specials and Up Digital Presence

That’s all good with us.

Samantha Bee and Full Frontal have not let us down with their election coverage, especially after buying a Herman Cain bus to travel to the RNC and putting Sam’s face over Herman’s.

We can’t wait to see what Sam does with these upcoming specials and mid-week segments.

Samantha Bee Victorious As TBS Apologizes For Post Comparing Hillary Clinton To Hyena | Deadline

Apparently, Samantha Bee just proved she is just as effective as the host of Full Frontal with Samantha Bee as being part of Turner Broadcasting System’s Internal Affairs/Brand Management.

Over social media, TBS cracked a joke comparing Hillary Clinton to a hyena and Samantha Bee called them out immediately. An apology quickly followed and the whole incident is now over.

Even though Samantha Bee just premiered this year, this is a pretty good display of how much she means to TBS.

Samantha Bee Is Finally Back from Hiatus and Explores the Disaster Waiting to Happen at RNC

You’re going to get a lot of comedy crossing paths with the political party conventions over the next two weeks.

Thankfully, out of the gate, Colbert and Samantha Bee have gone in depth at the RNC first. Bee went to Cleveland and tried to find out why, specifically, there’s a looming sense of chaos about the whole event. Spoiler alert: there are plenty of reasons.

Full Frontal with Samantha Bee has been off for what seems like way too long as Bee has quickly positioned herself as a voice in late night who people want to hear in times of crisis.

Her breakdown of the start of the RNC and Trump’s VP pick Mike Pence is a good example of this.

The AT&T pre-taping live stream for Full Frontal with Samantha Bee started this week and you really do get to see the first 10 minutes or so leading up to the actual show itself. You get a glimpse of the seams of the show and a bit of extra Sam Bee as well.

If you’ve never been to a TV taping, this might be especially intriguing for you.

You can send your thanks to AT&T for this one.

One of the most talked about late night shows these days just happens to be one of the newest ones, Full Frontal with Samantha Bee. Bee has been breaking down barriers on all levels with her show and doing so with joyful abandon.

Because of this, AT&T has partnered with the show to sponsor a Facebook livestream of the minutes to leading up to the actual taping. This’ll include the audience warm-up and Samantha Bee fielding questions.

Bee already pulls no punches during her show, so you probably, like us, wonder what she does off camera. Find out over here.

Cable networks come up big versus networks yet again.

Outside of ABC scoring a nomination each for black-ish and Fresh Off the Boat and Seinfeld being up for a ‘Heritage Award’, cable networks dominated the TCA nominations for comedy with shows like You’re The Worst, Silicon Valley, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Veep. In fact, they even outperformed streaming services in comedy, which were lead solely by Master of None.

We’re glad to see Samantha Bee, who has hit the ground in a full-tilt sprint since her show Full Frontal premiered on TBS earlier this year, is getting a deserving nod here as well.

Given how expansive TV is, even from last year, we’re going to guess that this won’t be too much of barometer for what the rest of the awards season holds for TV comedies.

The rest of the nominees are listed here.

As Samantha Bee points out in this segment, late night hosts are supposed to take a sincere moment to reflect when hosting a late night talk show following a tragic event like this weekend’s mass shooting of Pulse in Orlando.

Bee has proved that she’s not like the rest of the boys club in her short time in hosting Full Frontal and has set herself apart by never pulling any of her punches on the show. Her segment covering the deadliest mass shooting in American history is no different and we love her for it. It’s a perfect mix of rage, comedy, and a timely message.

It’s rare that you see two late night hosts get really ‘inside baseball’ about their craft while on air on one of their own late night programs.

When it does happen, it’s fascinating as you’re pointed out subtle, subconscious nuances that probably contribute to why you love something like Full Frontal with Samantha Bee or Conan.

Watch Conan O’Brien, Samantha Bee, and Andy Richter do exactly that when they dish over desks in late night here.

Last night, Full Frontal with Samantha Bee delves into a rarely talked about side of Super PACs: the donors.

Many are on board for the idea that Super PACs are one of the leading problems in politics, but few take the time to go to learn about one of the literal sources of those said Super PACs.

Samantha Bee actually sat down with one of the most unfortunate Super PAC donors and learned of his plight in another great remote segment. Watch it here.

We’re not exactly sure who on the Full Frontal with Samantha Bee writing staff is or are cineaste(s), but we really dig what they’re doing. Already, they’ve made a great Werner Herzog style piece on Jeb Bush.

Their latest piece sharply debunks “Crisis Pregnancy Centers”, which falsely parade around as places that you might be able to get an abortion. That got cleverly framed around a riff on Orson Welles’ fantastic meta-documentary about grifters, F For Fake.

On top of that, they got one the biggest cineastes of them all, Patton Oswalt, to play Welles’ role.

On last night’s Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, Samantha discovered that there is more bureaucratic red tape to get a costume for Eddie Eagle, the NRA’s mascot used to educate children about gun safety, than there is to buy a handgun, rifle, or shotgun in several states.

It’s just more of the Lord’s work being done by Bee and her Full Frontal staff.

Smart move, TBS.

Full Frontal with Samantha Bee hit the ground running as the latest addition to the late night world. Bee’s take-no-prisoners humor that breaks down current issues every week has garnered a solid viewership, especially online (as we’re sure you’ve seen the clips or gif set of her segments posted several places in your social media feeds).

So, TBS has picked up Full Frontal to the end of the year.

That will continue the great Sun-Mon. Daily Show with Jon Stewart alum combo of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver and Full Frontal with Samantha Bee that we’ve all got to enjoy.

The latest episode of Full Frontal with Samantha Bee might be one of the best yet as Samantha Bee was as sharp and merciless as she has ever been.

Bee brings light to important issues of rape kits going untested and the representation of atheists, specifically within the conservative side of the aisle.

In each instance, she also puts on a clinic on how to tell rape jokes and does one of the best Werner Herzog parodies in recent memory.

If you’re still worried about comedy tackling the hard issues and news of today in this post-Jon Stewart era, take a look at Full Frontal with Samantha Bee again.

Thus, she made this crash course on last night’s Full Frontal on why you should also be concerned with Ted Cruz running for president.

“Full Frontal with Samantha Bee” Getting International Distribution from Entertainment One

Looks like TBS might have found a late night companion to Conan that’ll finally stick.

Samantha Bee has only gotten a few weeks under her belt with Full Frontal, but it’s already made plenty of good headlines around the web in that short time.

So, Entertainment One has acquired the rights to distribute the show outside of North America, which is probably another good indicator that Bee might not fall to the same fate as The Pete Holmes Show and Black Box with Deon Cole before her.

Did we mention that you should be watching Full Frontal with Samantha Bee? It’s pretty great and Bee is even more unapologetic than she was on The Daily Show.

‘Adele Carpool Karaoke’ Record Is Milestone in New Era of Late Night

As of this post, Adele Carpool Karaoke is almost at the 70 million view mark on YouTube, which, according to Deadline, is now the new pinnacle of viral late night clips.

For decades, the format of the late night talk show had pretty much stayed the same with all the trappings of monologues, well tailored suits, desk pieces, celebrity guests, bands.

Now, in the 2010s, the tried and true format of late night is no longer tried and true. Rather than hanging out and hearing the crazy stories of famous people, viewers of late night seem to want to see something crazy actually happen on the show and perhaps only that.

James Corden took over The Late Late Show from Craig Ferguson only last year, relatively unknown in America, and has now scored a viral video that has out performed all the silly games that Jimmy Fallon, the late night leader pretty much from his start at The Tonight Show, plays with A-listers pretty much every night that he tapes an episode.

When Corden inherited The Late Late Show, there was scarcely any online presence for The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson as brief out-of-context interview clips were the only thing that would CBS would bother uploading on to YouTube. There is a reason that Corden went from pretty much zero to 70 million hits in a matter of a months.

The Internet and, more specifically, YouTube and social media, have commodified late night TV into more of a spectacle than it ever was. Remote segments, games, trips outside the studio are all things that are resonating with the current landscape of late night. Adele singing and joking around with James Corden being the most watched late night YouTube clip perfectly illustrates this change.

Such things specifically include Conan O’Brien doing any of his segments out in the wild or going abroad, Jimmy Fallon’s Lip Sync Battle, the pranks that Jimmy Kimmel hatches or his ongoing faux feud with Matt Damon, the deep segments on Last Week Tonight with John Oliver that are uploaded early Monday morning. You’ll note that you’ve probably seen all of these an almost innumerable times on your various social media feeds, both in embedded video and in .gif form.

Sure, Letterman used to throw random things off of a roof and Leno used to find dumb people out on the street who didn’t know what we’d all assume is basic common knowledge for JayWalking. However, in 2016, you don’t have to watch all of The Late Show or The Tonight Show just to get to watch those segments or bits. At any time of the day, you can watch just those specific parts, over and over and over, and nothing else.

With this being the case, many of those aforementioned late night tropes like the opening monologue of topical jokes and desk pieces are slowly fading in relevance in favor of what makes for the most viral sounding headline.

When Conan does entire special episodes where he travels to remote locations, it more resembles something that Anthony Bourdain would do rather than The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson.

Last Week Tonight, @midnight, and now, Full Frontal with Samantha Bee all offer something also atypical of what late night has been for so very long by trading chats with celebrities for dozens more topical jokes that aren’t merely delivered while standing on stage without a video package to throw to. Their success is signs of the winds of change at 11PM onwards.

With all of that being said, the old guard late night talk show is, for now, still in tact. Stephen Colbert is, in a surprising turn from The Colbert Report, presenting a very high brow, well executed version of the traditional late night talk show. In fact, Colbert pulls off many feats as a late night talk show host, especially when it comes to who he books and how he interviews or interacts with who he books, that his competition cannot because they’re off focusing on all the things mentioned above. Whether he can ascend to the top of the mountain of late night like his predecessor David Letterman did and stay there has yet to be seen, but Colbert definitely has the brilliance to do so.

Oh yeah, because of Trevor Noah, Larry Wilmore, and Samantha Bee, there is finally more than one late night show right now not hosted by a white guy.

Though they’re inevitably some doubters and skeptics, all these new trends are probably for the best. When it’s easier to watch live TV and stream content on the Internet on the same device (and that’s probably pretty soon), know that late night is only going to get more shaken up.

Samantha Bee Goes and Visits Syrian Refugees for “Full Frontal”

In the first of what is sure to be a strong line of remote segments for Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, Bee actually went to Syria (unlike her days at The Daily Show where they would often just throw up a background resembling wherever the piece was supposed to take place).

She sat down and talked to actual refugees and the people who are responsible for relocating them, which pairs well with Conan, who she leads in on Monday, and his more frequent trips to remote locales around the globe.

So, watch part 1 of The People We’re Incoherently Yelling About here.

In Solid Premiere, More Watched “Full Frontal with Samantha Bee” on Adult Swim Than TBS

February 10, 2016
Uncategorized

Turner made a smart bet by airing their new late night show Full Frontal with Samantha Bee on all of its TV channel properties. However, they probably didn’t guess that more viewers would watch it on the niche network, Adult Swim, over TBS, where Full Frontal will reside.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, about a million watched it on Adult Swim versus the 600,000 that watched it on TBS. While that metric is telling of plenty in what Full Frontal’s initial audience will be, Turner should be happy with a solid debut of 2.2 million viewers on basic cable in the overnight ratings.

One should note how Samantha Bee covered the election as well as, if not better than other hosts in the late night club.

Following other late night launches at TBS over the years, including The Pete Holmes Show, Lopez Tonight, and Deon Cole’s Black Box, the fate of Full Frontal definitely seems hopeful right now.

Focusing less on interviews and more on innovative taped segments and Daily Show-esque ribbing of video packages worked for Last Week Tonight and Bee made it work in her inaugural episode.

Also, the ridiculing of the media for their often incorrect focus on her being a woman should prove for a good running gag for quite some time.
