If you’re anti-Trump, you ought to know that one of the groups leading the charge is the Democratic Socialists of America.

The DSA is a volunteer activist organization that does a bunch of good shit around town like drive low-income women to abortion clinics, confront politicians who are cool with families being destroyed by deportation, or fight to get our City Council to stop investing money with banks that fund the Dakota Access Pipeline.

They’re throwing a comedy show fundraiser for their LA chapter and they’ve rustled up a damn fine line-up.

You can come watch the show at Nerdmelt in the back room of Meltdown Comics and they’re just asking for a $20 suggested donation. Get more details here.

Aparna Nancherla, who you should both know as a fantastic stand-up comedian and one of Twitter’s best @aparnapkin, is returning once again to LA next month, but will get to do so with top billing at UCLA’s Hammer Museum.

Marlena Rodriguez, Erin Lennox, and Naomi Ekperigin will be joining Aparna and, best of all, it’s free since all programs at Hammer are free.

For our money, one of the best ways to catch the fantastic Jen Kirkman in LA is at her recurring show, Lab Test, at the Hollywood Improv Comedy Lab. True to the title, Jen throws new material into a crucible along with great special guests.

The next editions of Jen Kirkman Presents Lab Test are on Wednesday, June 28th & August 16th and tickets are only $5. Please get them here.

We want to keep providing the same great resource that we have to both Los Angeles and comedy at large to the thousands of people who use our services. Pitching in on Patreon will not only make that happen, but so much more (app, branches elsewhere in the country, streamlining the current site, etc.)

If you want The Comedy Bureau to do better than having a desk off of Craigslist with electrical tape spelling out our name, please pledge $ to our Patreon.

Yep, we got this tanker desk for a “bit” that we did at Riot LA years ago and just ended up actually using it because that’s what our “budget” allows for. You can help us have a budget without quotation marks through Patreon.

One of Our Favorite Venues in LA, The Lyric Hyperion Theatre & Cafe, Needs Help Via Indiegogo

We spend a good deal of time at The Lyric Hyperion Theatre & Cafe as some of the best, most innovative shows in town often happen there (Dr. Brown, Natalie Palamides, Modern Vaudeville, Feel Good Podcast, Underbelly, etc.) as well as a healthy round of open mics that have really fostered a community within theater itself.

Recently, they’re in urgent need of repairs to the theater and are crowdfunding in order to cover the cost of said repairs.

Please consider helping them so they can continue putting on their amazing shows and continue to grow.

Just in case you weren’t aware, The Comedy Bureau has been solely run by me, Jake Kroeger, for nearly 7 years. I’ve loved serving both LA and comedy that whole time. Though I’ve gotten side gigs in this past, the Bureau takes up most of my time (i.e. it turns out that it’s a full time job running a whole agency by yourself) even though that has proven to be an ill advised idea financially time and time again (i.e. I make almost no money doing it and continue to live with my folks). Through monthly $ pledges on Patreon, I could have this be a sustainable public service that wouldn’t ever have to end. The more I get, the better The Comedy Bureau can be as well (app, NYC branch, etc. etc.). So, with all of that said, please support The Comedy Bureau on Patreon.
