Judy Greer and Natasha Lyonne To Play Dysfunctional Sisters Trying to Get Rid of a Dead Body in ‘Fresno’

(via Deadline)

Judy Greer and Natasha Lyonne are finally taking more of a deserving top billing role in an upcoming comedy from director Jamie Babbit and writer Karey Dornetto.

Together, Greer and Lyonne be playing sisters and hotel maids that don’t get along as one is impulsive and the other is overly regimented. On top of that they have to clean up an accidental death that’s their fault, which could be a bunch fun with this duo, possibly the type of fun promised by 2008’s Sunshine Cleaning.

Disney’s XD’s Phineas and Ferb already has an awesome Halloween episode that will feature Nick Frost and SImon Pegg as their characters from Shaun of the Dead, but they’re really going for more home runs this season with special, collaborative episodes.

The latest thing that Phineas and Ferb are up to is having Lost’s co-creator Damon Lindelof write a Lost themed episode for the animated series, which should be chock full of moments that parents will be laughing at that might go over the heads of their kids.

Network development slates seem to be getting on a musical comedy train. Just this week HBO and Fox have bought musical comedies from Peter Knight/Jason Winer and Bruce Eric Kaplan respectively.

Knight and Winer’s project will be a contemporary family comedy with original songs and Kaplan’s will follow three generations of women here in LA. Both have potential to be great, especially since many of miss the days of Flight of the Conchords.

Let’s hope these projects will make for an intriguing pilot season.

One of the most accomplished and funniest storytellers around, Brian Finkelstein, is trying to take his acclaimed one man show First Day Off in a Long Time on tour as he’s gotten requests to perform it so many places around the entire country. The demand is not only because of how great the show is, but the fact that it delves into the topic of suicide in a way that isn’t often encountered in most shows/movies/etc. or informational pamphlets.

Brian needs money to bring this show to the masses. Specifically, he’s raising $10,000 on Kickstarter by Sept. 19th and is currently at $4,591 as of this post being written. There’s time, but pitch in before it’s too late.

Verbally and physically, piñatas, or at least the one he takes to with a colorful blunt force object, may never be the same.

It’s become routine to expect that Modern Family, ABC’s powerhouse sitcom, FX’s groundbreaking Louie, the brilliant Veep, and the supremely well-crafted Colbert Report win during awards season. Last night, at The Emmys they didn’t break with those expectations at all unlike a lot of the new winners at this year’s Creative Arts Emmys.

Here’s what they and more won at The Primetime Emmys.

Modern Family-Outstanding Comedy Series
Julia Louis-Dreyfus in Veep-Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy
Ty Burrell in Modern Family-Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy
Jimmy Fallon hosting SNL-Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series

Along with the announcing of the Emmy winners last night, The Primetime Emmys telecast had none other than Billy Crystal honor one of the now, late greats, Robin Williams and Weird Al Yankovic, who is continuing to have a banner year, add his own lyrics to the theme songs of Game of Thrones, Mad Men, Homeland, Scandal, and Modern Family.

It’s a good thing that these Emmys didn’t air on the same night as the MTV VMAs so we didn’t have to flip channels between this and Beyonce.

The Santa Barbara LOL Comedy Festival is reaching beyond its own very scenic surroundings by starting a Hulu channel that will feature daily content highlighting various events at the comedy festival.

We’d hope it would be clips from Jim Jefferies headlining or Ben Gleib and Kirk Fox taping their hour specials, but we’ll all just have to wait and see on Sept. 2nd when the festival begins.

Hopefully, this venture is successful so other comedy festivals will follow suit and those not fortunate enough to go to places like Montreal, Melbourne, Austin, Portland, NYC as well as LA can see the any of the amazing things that happen at comedy festivals.

So, Mike Epps Will Play Richard Pryor in the Latest Attempt at a Richard Pryor Biopic

August 26, 2014
Uncategorized

Trying to adapt the biography of Richard Pryor into a big time biopic has been one of the more befuddling movies to make over the last several years, largely due to legal disputes. The role of Pryor has been recast several times with the likes of Marlon Wayons and Nick Cannon, but now the Lee Daniels helmed biopic now has Mike Epps cast as Pryor according to this tweet.

There is still a chance that version of a Richard biopic might hit a snag if legal action on the part of Richard Pryor Jr. also moves forward due to the involvement of Jennifer Lee, Pryor’s widow.

With all of this in mind, the making of this movie could almost be a movie in of itself.

Despite Netflix being shut out of being recognized as a winner in any Emmy category this year, the online streaming giant is pushing forward with their own agenda.

Their first order of business today: give Bojack Horseman a second season.

Netflix’s first original animated comedy series hasn’t even gone a week since its release before getting the order from another season, but we’re happy either way to hear more of Will Arnett voicing a sitcom horse as well as having a stellar cast including Aaron Paul, Amy Sedaris, Alison Brie, and Paul F.
