After gaining international critical acclaim at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Natalie Palamides’ groundbreaking show returns home for another run at The Lyric Hyperion Theatre & Cafe.

Also, the show’s director (and Fringe Festival favorite), Dr. Brown, will attempt to perform the show. Show description reads (probably written by Natalie):
Dr. Brown has been developing this show with Natalie for over a year and knows the show like the back of his hand… SO HE THINKS. Come watch Dr. Brown crash and burn OR, more likely, blow the show so far out of the water that Natalie hands the role over to him forever. Following the show the audience is welcome to watch Natalie give notes on his performance.

Get tickets for LAID here and the Dr. Brown Edition here.

In their own specific manner, Conan O’Brien and Stephen Colbert are leading the way in late night.

Naturally, one being a guest on the other’s show is something to see and Conan’s interview on Colbert absolutely did not disappoint.

The stories of David Letterman’s “special” gift, hijinks in the Holy Land, and his Harvard ring are priceless as is the dynamic between two living comedy legends.

When it comes to comedy and Halloween, “seeing” stand-up in pitch black darkness sounds pretty ideal.

That’s why Marlena Rodriguez’s Dark: Stand Up Comedy in Pitch Black on Halloween weekend is kind of perfect.

The line-up is stacked with Debra DiGiovanni, Anna Seregina, Josh Fadem, Jesus Trejo, Chanel Ali, and Baron Vaughn.

This special Halloween edition of Dark will be at Lyric Hyperion Theatre & Cafe on Friday, October 27th at 8PM. Tickets are $5 in advance and $10 at door and you can (and should) get advance tickets here.

Derek Sheen consistently holds up his reputation to process this world that’s almost too crazy to cogently make fun of and weave a hysterical tapestry of life’s oxymoronic tendencies.

He did it on his last album Tiny Idiot and he does it yet again with Disasterbation, which has a true life story entitled “Hitler Fatigue”.

Here’s a taste of the album from another track that details Derek finding a silver lining after a horrific car accident.

Please get Disasterbation as it’s out now from Stand Up Records.

Danielle Schneider and Dannah Phirman, The Duo That Brought You “Hotwives”, Sold “Ex-Stepmom” Comedy to NBC and Will Re-Develop Single Dad Comedy “Lost in Queens” at ABC

The team behind the ‘Housewives’ parody series, ‘Hotwives’, sure has been busy.

Both projects are currently multi-cam sitcoms at broadcast, which makes us curious to see what sort of satirical edge Phirman and Schneider might bring to the form. We’ll have to wait and find out when either project goes to pilot, then perhaps gets a subsequent greenlight.

With revenge seeming to be the theme of this season of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (just look at the banner above), it seems like the series might take some of its darkest (but possibly most fun) twists and turns yet.

Remember, this was originally billed as as dark romantic comedy musical and what a perfect time to live up to that label.

By the way, you can get a taste of what’s to come as EW has an exclusive on the opening of season 3.

Though Halloween will be over, you can keep the spirit alive with Chicago’s own Helltrap Nightmare, a surrealist, horror comedy show (seemingly in the same oozing vein of The Heart, She Holler) coming to the Lyric Hyperion next month.

Also, it might be a perfect night for the show as it’ll be exactly a year to the day after, well, you know, the 2016 election was over.

The line-up includes:
-host Sarah Squirm, The Shrimp Boys, and Scott Egleston, all from Chicago
-Ruby McCollister from NYC
-LA’s own Jamie Loftus, Bruce Bundy, and Lyra Hill.

Tickets are $10 and you can (and should, if you dare) get them here.

Watch Trailer for Mr. Roosevelt, Written and Directed by and Starring Noël Wells

As is sometimes the case with people who have a very short run at Saturday  Night Live, they flourish in their career post-SNL.

Jenny Slate is a great example of that and Noël Wells seems to be walking a similar path.

After a memorable turn on Master of None, Wells has made a debut as a writer/director/star with her film, Mr. Roosevelt. This film puts Wells in the spotlight in the very uncomfortable situation of staying with her ex-boyfriend and his new girlfriend.

See for yourself in the trailer, then look out for Mr. Roosevelt in theaters later this month on Friday, October 27th.

On this Thursday, October 12th, two more women, Sarah Silverman and Robin Thede will indeed premiere their own topical late night shows.

On Hulu, I Love You, America will have Sarah Silverman take her own heartfelt, yet unapologetically silly take on the world.

BET will enter the foray of late night with The Rundown with Robin Thede, a combo of the head writer of The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore and Chris Rock producing, with might be a traditional late night format, but focusing a little less on Trump.

Here’s Thede on MSNBC detailing what’s to come on The Rundown.

In any case, that means there are now four late night female hosts between Samantha Bee, Chelsea Handler, Sarah Silverman, and Robin Thede.

ABC Buys and Is Developing “The Mighty Quinn” Written by Jen Kirkman

You know, the idea that there might be a TV series written by Jen Kirkman on a major broadcast network really puts a smile on our face.

Kirkman definitely pulled from the wheelhouse of her life and stand-up for this show as the story follows a 39 year old woman going on a journey of self-discovery after being dumped on Christmas.

If you listen to any of Jen’s albums or watch any of her specials or read any of her books, you’d know that this has potential to be really great.

The Rundown with Robin Thede, the topical late night show produced by Chris Rock, will kick off Thursday night, October 12th at 10PM.

You might remember Thede from The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore, which seems like such a distant memory these days, especially when it comes to the world of late night. As to what’s to come on The Rundown, the show itself is shrouded in a bit of mystery as there is only this promo for the time being.

It just so happens that Sarah Silverman’s topical show I Love You, America begins streaming on Hulu on Thursday as well.

Given the pace of the news right now, there seems to be room in late night for attempting to digest and make fun of whatever happened earlier in the day.

Meriwether wrote the pilot and Bell is attached to star and direct.

We’ll be curious to see if this will be done in black and white and maybe take any other cues from Alexander Payne’s Nebraska.
