Watch their set and also learn an interesting fact about Space Jam we bet that you didn’t know here.

Chris Rock Is Hosting SNL Tonight

As of late, the best episodes of Saturday Night Live seem to come around when they have a host that has such a strong voice comedically and in many different disciplines (i.e. writing, stand-up, acting, directing). Both times Louis C.K. has hosted, for example, have been pretty great.

We think that Chris Rock might have a similar result having acted on Broadway, produced TV shows, and made his own highly anticipated movies like Top Five in returning to the SNL stage tonight as the host, so you should check it out at 11:30PM on NBC.

Also, it’s another rare chance to get to watch Prince perform live.

Viacom has opted to increase their offerings with Hulu and in doing so has given them streaming rights for The Ren & Stimpy Show, Hey Arnold!, Key & Peele, Drunk History, Ridiculousness, Tosh.0, Kroll Show and Inside Amy Schumer.

Hopefully this month, episodes will start popping up on Hulu and you can binge watch away.

It’s officially the first day of November as well as the day after Halloween as well as Saturday morning and we think it’s a pretty great way to start all of that with Brian Regan’s appearance on Letterman from last night.

There’s a stand-up set as well as his bit part in Chris Rock’s upcoming movie Top Five.

(Just so you know, watching Brian Regan is good start to pretty much any day.)

2015 Might Be The Last Time Tina Fey and Amy Poehler Host the Golden Globes

October 31, 2014
Uncategorized

(via The Hollywood Reporter)

This January, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will have taken the stage at The Golden Globes as the evening’s host for the third time. According to Poehler in a recent interview on The Today Show, she’s leaning towards the idea of it be the duo’s last go around for the gig as she’s worried that it might be going “downhill” if she continues.

The two have been the best hosts of an awards show in quite some time and it would be sad for them to stop. Still, just because she and Tina won’t host The Golden Globes again, doesn’t mean they couldn’t host any number of other awards shows including The Oscars, Emmys, MTV Movie Awards, etc. etc.

Let’s hope that happens.

Jon Stewart Q&A For Premiere of “Rosewater” With Stephen Colbert Will Be Broadcast Into Theaters

Uncategorized

Jon Stewart’s directorial debut Rosewater would be remiss without some sort of event attached to the movie’s premiere.

Luck would have that on Nov. 13th at 7:30PM EST (and tape delay for 7:30PM MT/CT/PST), Stewart will be chatting with his satirical news program cohort Stephen Colbert and it will be broadcast into theaters via Fathom Events.

While Rosewater isn’t at all a comedy, we’re sure that Stewart and Colbert in conversation will be a whole lot of fun, perhaps reminiscent of John Mulaney recently interviewing Dan Mintz.

Paramount and Warner Bros. Up Their Digital Content with New Web Series “Beef” and “RejecTED”

October 31, 2014
Uncategorized

The line between watching a web series online and watching your favorite TV show online is continuing to blur. Of course, you probably knew that having binged watched any number of hit TV series online as well as watch a run of a successful web series like This Is Not Happening with Ari Shaffir.

Knowing this, Warner Bros. has launched into the realm of content online with a division that will be called Blue Ribbon Content (H/T The Hollywood Reporter) that will feature such things like a series from the creators of Mike Tyson Mysteries centered on bad TED Talks. It’s appropriately called RejecTED.

Paramount is continuing their path of great, bizarre parody web parodies like Burning Love with Beef featuring Christopher Meloni as a sort-of-daytime-TV-judge that hears people’s “beefs” in the butcher shop that he owns. If you think it might be as awesome as it sounds, the trailer will not disappoint (cast and guest stars include Michael Ian Black, James Pumphrey, Joe Lo Truglio, Angela Trimbur, Betsy Sodaro, Beck Bennett, Michael Cera, FYI). Beef is set for a release in just over a week on Nov. 11th.

So, basically we’re saying get ready for all of this.

The NY Times is now expanding their profiles of comedians to actual video segments that delve deeper into the relevance of an individual comedian’s work, specifically in regards to race and ethnicity.

The new web series “Off Color Comedy” will feature funny people such as, in their first episode, Hari Kondabolu and how they touch on issues surrounding one’s race, ethnicity, culture, and more and make it funny like he does in his latest album Waiting For 2042.

The Colbert Report and The “Stephen Colbert” Character Now Have an Official End Date

(via Deadline)

Two weeks ago, Stephen Colbert announced that they were 32 episodes left of The Colbert Report. Unless we’re miscounting a pre-empted episode we forgot about, that means there are 24 more episodes at Comedy Central left as of the post being written.

More specifically though, The Colbert Report and the character Stephen Colbert plays on the show will retire on Dec. 18th in order to take over for Letterman next year. So, mark your calendars.

Hopefully, something involving a fight for power with Jon Stewart will be involved when that happens.

E! has just extended Joel McHale’s contract to be the host of The Soup through 2016, which might have a little bit to do with the McHale so readily shooting down the idea of him replacing Craig Ferguson at The Late Late Show all those months ago.

With Community returning on Yahoo as well, McHale will definitely get to have fun continuing to have his cast mates on The Soup.

Ellen DeGeneres Launching Her Own Video Platform “Ellentube”

When you have an incredibly successful day time talk show, are a beloved actress and comedian, a winner of The Mark Twain Prize for Humor, and more, what is left for someone like Ellen DeGeneres to accomplish?

Launching her own version of YouTube is apparently on that list.

So, Ellentube will be her own exclusive video platform that will post content from her show and otherwise as well as inviting users to submit their own videos that could be featured on the air on Ellen.

Though it was just launched, Ellentube  might end up being an intriguing contrast of the same model from Funny or Die, originally launched by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay.

!? is on pre-order from AST Records now and comes out Nov. 11th and we highly recommend grabbing it and listening to it repeatedly.

After nicely delving into the dramatic with films like Men, Women, and Children, Jason Reitman is now taking a step into the new territory of the episodic as well as the digital realm.

Hulu has just ordered “Casual” from Reitman who is set to produce and partially direct. While there’s a lot of directions that a dysfunctional family comedy with a bachelor brother and a divorced sister can go, we’re sure Reitman will steer it in a good one like he’s done with Up In The Air or Thank You For Smoking.

The comeback of “The Comeback” at HBO is less than two weeks away and many of you still might be wondering how the show was revived after being canceled several years later, just out of the blue.

In doing the rounds on the talk show circuit, Lisa Kudrow revealed on Kimmel that there was a whole younger generation that was into The Comeback that she had no idea was around until the last couple years.

Thus, Nov. 9th 10pm will see the return of The Comeback seemingly thanks to a lot of ardent fans.

Mitch Hurwitz Re-editing “Arrested Development” More Chronologically

(via Uproxx/Pretentious Film Majors)

Season 4 of Arrested Development had to deal with a lot of obstacles, one of them being the shooting schedules of its all star cast of Jason Bateman, Michael Cera, Will Arnett, David Cross, Portia De Rossi, Jeffrey Tambor, Alia Shawkat, and Jessica Walter that after season 3 had launched into a multitude of other successful projects. Thus, many scenes in season 4 did not include the entire Bluth family together like season 1-3 and accordingly had a much different feel with many episodes focusing on a different character’s perspective in the same timeline.

Series creator Mitch Hurwitz revealed in an interview that he is now trying to recut season 4 to flow more chronologically smooth, which would presumably resemble more of the original series. However, when we’d see that on Netflix has yet to announced.

The Coen Brothers’ Hollywood-set-1950s period comedy “Hail Caesar!” following a “fixer” has drummed up excitement ever since it was first announced.

Taking a cue, perhaps, from the rising trend of announcing release dates years in advance, Hail, Caesar! has just locked a release date for Feb. 5th, 2016.

Fortunately, 2014 is almost over, so it’s closer to a year and a half that we’ll have to wait rather than two years for this.

The confusion and rush of a midterm election can rival that one of a presidential one, you shouldn’t worry about what mudslinging ad campaign you’ll side on this year.

The Daily Show and The Colbert Report are set to air live on Nov. 4th, the fateful day of this latest midterm election to make, at the very least, you laugh and hopefully understand some of what’s happening along with a chat between Jon Stewart and Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus.

Also, the aptly titled “Democalypse 2014: America Remembers It Forgot to Vote” and “Midterms ‘014: Detour to Gridlock: An Exciting Thing That I Am Totally Interested In—Wait! Don’t Change the Channel. Look at this Video of a Duckling Following a Cat Dressed Like a Shark Riding a Roomba! ‘014!” should be enough to already make you feel good about the 4th that has no fireworks.

Fox Buys Supernatural Comedy Produced by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck

It turns out that Project Greenlight is only one of the projects that’s bringing Matt Damon and Ben Affleck back together again.

Fox has just bought a comedy project from 30 Rock writer/producer Colleen McGuinness that will have Damon and Affleck serving as producers. The “supernatural” element here is that a twentysomething woman discovers that she’s telekinetic.

Make whatever “how do you ‘dem apples?” joke you want here, but this should be very intriguing in this upcoming pilot season, especially with all the other high concept comedies currently in development.
