“Professor Blastoff” Podcast Coming To an End

July 27, 2015
Uncategorized
david huntsberger, earwolf, kyle dunnigan, podcast, professor blastoff, tig notaro

What a way to end a week of cancellations/endings.

One of the longer running podcasts at Earwolf, Professor Blastoff, is coming to an end after 217 episodes. This is the latest end of a comedy series in a week filled with the cancellations of HAPPYish, China, IL, and The Comedians as well as the announcement that this current season will be the final season of Key & Peele.

While it’s sad to see this podcast go, it’s great that Professor Blastoff’s crew is doing quite well in their own right. Tig Notaro has her stand-up really taking off, David Huntsberger has his own show to host on Syfy, Reactor, and Kyle Dunnigan is part of the Emmy nominated staff of Inside Amy Schumer.

If you’re looking for another podcast that wonderfully intersects science and comedy, may we suggest Probably Science.

Watch David Angelo Show How “Nothin’s Easy” and Pretty Absurd

Uncategorized

Comedy Central’s latest web series, Nothin’s Easy, comes from the mind of one David Angelo.

In this series, you get to watch David show how no matter where you’re at in life, there are always going to be obstacles of some kind like trying to buy commercialized weed…

…or avoiding funding causes you don’t believe in…

…or the quality of your therapy off of Obamacare or trying to buy commercialized weed.

Whether you think those are obstacles that would really be considered taxing on a person or not, it’s still really fun to watch David Angelo go through them.

If nothing else, you’ll get to hear Dana talk for 30 minutes into a mic, which is, in case you don’t know, pretty fantastic.

Take a brief moment to enjoy the idea of Mike and Jonah from Veep working on a movie together.

Ben Stiller’s Red Hour Films and Paramount have gotten on board for Matt Walsh and Timothy Simons’ college football comedy “Red Shirt”.

There are no other details as of right now, but don’t be surprised to hear that it would be an improvised movie and has a dash of Walsh’s sports podcast, Bear Down.

The latest installment of James Corden’s Late Late Show “Take a Break” segment takes Corden to the LA landmark known as Pink’s Hot Dogs on La Brea.

While he’s filling in for someone, he attempts to make his mark by making his own hot dog, instituting a new glove policy, perhaps eating food that he shouldn’t be eating, etc.

Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele Are Ending“Key & Peele” After This Season

July 25, 2015
Uncategorized
comedy central, jordan peele, keegan michael key, key and peele

(via The Wrap)

Keegan and Jordan want to emphasize that it’s them, not Comedy Central, that has brought them to this decision to end the show, which is regarded as a stand-out in this golden age of television.

After five groundbreaking seasons, both Key and Peele want the breathing room to explore other projects and passions and are thus bringing their highly acclaimed sketch series Key & Peele to a close.

Take note that they do want to keep working together plenty in the future. On leaving, Keegan says, “I’m thinking we could do that every three years – take a year, go bang out a movie. That’s the plan right now.”

So, before you go getting all wistful and start going through Key & Peele all over again (a thing you should totally do), remember this isn’t the end of one of the great comedy duos to ever be.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler don’t get to work on everything together, but it’s all the more special when they do and perhaps that what it will be like with Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele in the years to come.

“China, IL”, “The Comedians”, and “HAPPYish” All Got the Ax This Week

July 24, 2015
Uncategorized

(via Deadline/The Hollywood Reporter/The AV Club)

We’re pretty sure this isn’t how the rule of three in comedy is supposed to go.

Adult Swim, FX, and Showtime all cancelled comedies on their networks this week. As the next pilot season is rolling around, this is the first wave of cancellations. We can only hope won’t be as bloody as the last round of cancellations where many freshman shows got axed.

China, IL made it to third season at Adult Swim, but The Comedians, and HAPPYish only made it to the end of their first season at FX and Showtime, respectively.

Perhaps, it won’t be before too long before we see what’s next for Brad Neely, Billy Crystal, Josh Gad, and Steve Coogan.

Alec Sulkin and Julius Sharpe’s Workplace Mystery Comedy “Where Are They Now?” Sold to Fox

July 24, 2015
Uncategorized
alec sulkin, fox, julius sharpe, put pilot, where are they now?

(via Deadline)

Sulkin and Sharpe might be on to something here.

Though the title conjures up images of all those forgotten celebrity series, Where Are They Now? will focus on the disappearance of the employees of an Internet company and the subsequent investigation. Normally, that would be the plot of one of the many hour long procedurals on TV, but this is, interestingly enough, going to be a half-hour comedy.

Alec Sulkin and Julius Sharpe have a commitment for a single camera put pilot at Fox and let’s hope it makes it to the point in the development process where we can see what they got cooking.

“Klovn” Got a Sequel, “Klovn Forever”

July 24, 2015
Uncategorized

(via Uproxx)

The raunchy ride of a Danish comedy may have given birth to a film franchise.

Five years ago, Frank Hvam and Casper Christensen made Klovn, released in the States as Klown, which was hailed as a Danish Hangover, but even more crazed.

With the success of the first Klovn, Hvam and Christensen have made the follow-up, “Klovn Forever”. There’s no word of how or when it would get a U.S. release, prompting, we assume, a change in the title to Klown Forever.

Distributors should take note that now, with the success of Trainwreck, seems as good a time as any for R-rated comedies to come out.

By the way, anyone think this is all an elaborate ruse for Stephen to get our chips that come with our sandwich?
