Seth Rogen Throwing James Franco a Bar Mitzvah For “Hilarity For Charity”

So, would the theme be paintings of Seth Rogen by James Franco?

The latest big time show for Rogen’s Hilarity for Charity organization, which raises money to fight against and awareness of Alzheimer’s disease, will indeed be a bar mitzvah for one of his best friends and frequent co-star, James Franco.

We wouldn’t be surprised at all if Franco actually does an actual reading of the Torah given his penchant of juggling his many areas of study.

The event is set to take place at the Hollywood Palladium on Oct. 17th and will undoubtedly be a very exclusive event to get into.

From Sept. 29th to Dec. 11th, the amazing Bo Burnham will be going on The Make Happy Tour, from which he’ll be taping a brand new comedy special at the very last stop in Port Chester, NY.

Martin Scorcese’s “The King of Comedy” Is Headed to Broadway as a Musical

If Rupert Pupkin was crazy enough to kidnap a late night talk show host in order to tell jokes on late night, is it so crazy if he sings while doing it?

Out of Scorcese’s vast filmography, The King of Comedy that follows Pupkin in pursuing his crazed dream is the Scorcese classic that will be the adapted into a stage musical for Broadway.

The award winning musical talents of Stephen Trask and Chris D’Arienzo are collaborating on the adaptation.

While seeing a musical of The Wolf of Wall Street or maybe After Hours would be fun, this could be fun, possibly more so than the very darkly comedic film, especially if they can get Sandra Bernhard to reprise her original role.

Based off of his performance in Trainwreck, this might be a good thing.

LeBron James and his Cleveland Cavaliers might have lost the NBA Championship this year, but LeBron has just scored a big development deal to develop shows and movies for Warner Bros. Outside of the infamous “Decision”, James has generally kept a very charismatic persona. Playing Bill Hader’s best friend in Trainwreck only reinforced that notion.

Under such an agreement, it will almost be no surprise if he will be the star in Space Jam 2, which is in development at Warner Bros.

There aren’t a lot of specifics as to what, if any, projects that James is specifically focused on right now, but don’t be surprised if most of them are in comedy.

HBO Renews “The Brink” on The Brink of Contract Expirations

It probably isn’t the whole reason, but it almost seems like HBO might have partially waited to order season 2 for wordplay.

HBO has opted to go for a second season of the geopolitical crisis comedy “The Brink” with Jack Black and Tim Robbins. Unfortunately, one of the series’ executive producer Jerry Weintraub passed away recently and was unable to share in the good news.

The order comes just in the nick of time before the attached stars had the option to go for other projects.

Perhaps, Jack Black’s plea while on Conan worked?

Rob McElhenney Set To Direct a “Minecraft” Movie

If you’re thinking that this is like when Chris Miller and Phil Lord took on making a movie out of LEGOs, note that LEGO Movie producer Roy Lee is set to produce this adaptation.

Our last post did feature a parody trailer of a video game film adaptation gone wrong. Yet, we have a little trouble being skeptical of It’s Always Sunny in Phliadelphia’s Rob McElhenney taking on directing an adaptation of the mega successful video game franchise, Minecraft.

The irreverence and brashness of It’s Always Sunny, which Rob not only starred in, but created and wrote, leads us to believe that McElhenney could make a damn fun Minecraft movie.

Maybe they’ll build a lair for Dayman and Nightman?

“The Nightly Show” and Judd Apatow on “The Tonight Show” Torched Bill Cosby

As Hannibal Buress really brought to light the allegations of Bill Cosby’s rapes and sexual assaults, comedy was certainly going to keep that torch burning after that damning 2005 deposition was recently released in full.

So, The Nightly Show pretty much dedicated their entire show last night to taking down Cosby with a few, great incendiary bars rapped by The Nightly Show’s own Holly Walker…

…Larry’s opening segment going through the aforementioned 2005 deposition…

…and having a panel really break down why everyone needs to let go of their nostalgia of Bill Cosby.

Then, on The Tonight Show, a show that Bill Cosby has very memorably frequented over decades, let Judd Apatow do a stand-up set where he closed with a fine, scorching send-up of Cosby.

In case you weren’t aware, comedy isn’t going to let one of its former heroes have a mere fall from grace. Rather, it’s going to kick him all the way down and keep kicking.

This year is quickly becoming a banner year for Tig Notaro as the documentary following her now legendary set, “Tig”, was just released this past weekend on Netflix and her Showtime special with Jon Dore, “Knock Knock, It’s Tig Notaro” premiered earlier this year.

On top of all of that, she has her HBO comedy special “Boyish Girl Interrupted” premiering on Aug. 22nd at 10PM.

Blip.tv To Shut Down Next Month

While more traditional TV networks are finally coming the way of the Web with their own proprietary streaming service, one of the first online streaming sites is coming to an end.

As you can imagine, when YouTube started, they weren’t the only user-generated online video site in town. Blip.tv was one of those sites, but due to the ever-growing ubiquitousness of YouTube, it has since fallen to the way side. Maker Studios, which used Blip as their digital platform, has been prompted to shut Blip down.

If you’ve had a sketch, web series, etc. you’ve probably got an e-mail about taking your content elsewhere by Aug. 20th, when they go offline.

This just goes to show you how much weight your name holds nowadays in the online streaming game.

Whether it be Happy Endings, Benched, or a myriad of really funny web videos, we’d hope that you’re familiar with the great Eliza Coupe and get ready for some series of her own.

ABC Studios and ABC Signature Studios have signed a deal for Coupe to develop her own projects.

Hopefully, we’ll get to see what Coupe is cooking up before too long, especially since we feel Benched was cancelled way too early.
