Watch Trailer For Amazon’s 80s Coming of Age Comedy “Red Oaks”

September 14, 2015
Uncategorized
amazon, craig roberts, david gordon green, josh meyers, paul reiser, red oaks

Amazon’s latest comedy series will be Red Oaks from director David Gordon Green (Eastbound and Down) and writers Joe Gangemi and Gregory Jacobs following a young man played by Craig Roberts teaching tennis to old, rich folks at a country club, set in the 1980s.

From the looks of the trailer, especially with how Josh Meyers and Paul Reiser look, it’s really steeped in the 1980s.

All the episodes start streaming exclusively on Amazon on Fri. Oct. 9th.

John Oliver and Last Week Tonight Informs Us All That Our Public Defenders in The U.S. Are Way Overworked

hbo, john oliver, last week tonight, public defenders

Last Week Tonight taking two weeks off is as close to a summer break as many adults will get and, honestly, it’s not nearly as fun as the summer breaks from childhood.

Luckily, that’s all over and John Oliver has returned with his routine great insight, sharp, left-field jokes, and a perfectly crafted sketch at the end to hammer his point home.

So, Last Week Tonight 101 is back in session and today’s segment/lesson is about public defenders and how thinly spread they are nowadays.

Sony Pictures Classics Saves “The Bronze” and Will Release It

(via Deadline)

That’s one movie saved, plenty more to go.

The dust is starting to settle from Relativity Media filing for bankruptcy and many of its upcoming releases being postponed indefinitely.

The Bronze starring and co-written by Melissa Rauch was one such movie that, as of last week, we had no idea if it would come out in theaters.

Now, Sony Pictures Classics has now got its hand on the film and plans on releasing it, hopefully in the not so distant future.

Perhaps, they’ll snatch up Masterminds too?

SNL 40th Anniversary, Transparent, and More Win at 2015 Creative Arts Emmys

There are a lot of awards given out for The Primetime Emmys and so a good deal of them, for categories such as production design or casting, are handed out well before the telecast.

However, more notable categories like Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special, which went to Louis C.K., and Outstanding Interactive Program, which went to Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, are also among these Creative Arts Emmys.

The SNL 40th Anniversary Special happen to take home four of these Emmys and Transparent took three.

@midnight, Louie, Transparent, SNL and the SNL 40th, The Colbert Report, Drunk History, Mike & Molly, Silicon Valley, Portlandia, Inside Amy Schumer, Adventure Time, The Simpsons, Robot Chicken, Between Two Ferns, Big Bang Theory, A Tribute to Mel Brooks, Veep, Last Week Tonight, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Modern Family, and The Tonight Show all received Emmys in a variety of very specific categories.

Take a gander at the full list right here.

If you know the name Ray Parker Jr., odds are that you know it from his hit theme song for Ghostbusters. Outside of that, you’d probably have to Google what he’s been up to for the last few decades.

Well, rather than sort through a discography, you can actually just watch one of the last Key & Peele sketches ever to find out what happened to Ray Parker Jr.

With that said, farewell Key & Peele and thanks for all the times we almost couldn’t breathe from laughing so hard at your perfectly crafted, poignant work.

This week, Craig Ferguson sat down with Seth Meyers to promote his latest comedy special Just Being Honest and made his first late night appearance since he stepped down from The Late Late Show.

While being on the other side of the desk, Ferguson chatted with Meyers about missing out on Trump, but not missing the job of a late night host as a whole.

They did a post mortem for the interview and gave more insight to the subtleties of hosting a talk show in late night including their preferences on the cards they throughout the show.

From watching this, we wondered if Ferguson would do another talk show if it was weekly and he could interview whomever he wanted,

You might have recently seen Sheng Wang as one of the top 10 comics on the latest season of Last Comic Standing, but we would hope that you’ve come to know him from his various late night performances over the years and followed his stand-up very closely afterwards like we have.

If you have done so, you’d know that Sheng Wang exudes pure fun in his jokes as if you’re hearing the most clever DJ on the radio that doesn’t need to play music because his jokes are so good.

Wang’s debut album Cornucopias Are Actually Horrible Containers is a great example of what we’re talking about.

You can and should get it off of All Things Comedy here.

Watch Trailer for “Jafar Panahi’s Taxi” from Jafar Panahi Who Is Banned From Writing/Directing Films in Iran

September 11, 2015
Uncategorized

One of Iran’s most currently celebrated directors Jafar Panahi is actually going through a twenty year ban on writing and directing his own films in Iran. As you can probably guess, the Iranian government had problems with the content of his films and after several arrests, Panahi received that long punishment despite being applauded for his work across the globe.

Panahi has not let the ban stop him from making films as he has manage to do them cleverly in secret, usually in the form of documenting himself and his environs.

His latest work, Taxi, follows Jafar Panahi as a taxi driver in Tehran, perhaps the country’s most famous one, and the slightly absurd passengers and situations that might come into his cab. It’s currently playing the film festival circuit, but hopefully it’ll get picked up for a limited release soon.

Watch, enjoy, and marvel at this trailer of what he pulled off here.

It has been quite some time since the last collection of sweetly composed, hilariously biting songs from Kate Micucci and Riki Lindhome better known as Garfunkel and Oates.

However, the wait is over and their latest album, Secretions, is out now. 29/31, a song from both perspectives of a woman who is 29, then later 31, and The BJ Song, a song exploring the inner monologue of a woman while giving a ‘beej’, are two of our favorites.

Get Secretions (the album, not bodily fluid) here.
