Phil Hanley is the sort of clever writer and smooth operator that makes him kind of perfect for doing late night sets. Already he’s racked up sets on Late Night and The Late Late Show.
Last night, he added The Tonight Show to his resume and definitely delivered (there are so many applause breaks in this set).

There you have it folks. You’ve probably seen many of these great comics recently on late night talk shows, panel shows all over cable, viral videos, in various roles on sitcoms, web series, and on SNL for a season, but now you can finally watch them in more than 3-5 minute increments.
You’ll be able to catch these specials either being taped in Boston as Comedy Central usually does or on Comedy Central much later in 2015.
The ever clever Phil Hanley returns to late night.
Having made his late night stand-up debut on the now defunct Pete Holmes Show, Hanley notches in another late night set with great misdirection every which way he can.
If you’re not familiar with NYC based Phil Hanley, you should get familiar, especially after watching this “live reading” of a transcript from his ex-girlfriend breaking up with him on last night’s Pete Holmes Show.
Much of actually good crowd work in stand-up comes from an initial instinct to survive given not so perfect circumstances. That is what is on display with the first episode of Season 3 of Scott Moran’s Modern Comedian featuring Phil Hanley.
