Party Down’s Season 3 Trailer Is Here

January 26, 2023
News

One of the most beloved cult comedies of all time, Party Down, is, after all these years, actually coming back. On Feb. 24th, Adam Scott will have to deal with folks annoyingly saying “ARE WE HAVING FUN YET?” while managing the misguided anxiety of Ken Marino and Party Down Catering. Also, the likes of Jennifer Garner, Tyrel Jackson Williams, Zoë Chao, and James Marsden will be in the mix for this long awaited season (in addition to a great cavalcade of cameos).

Hopefully, the existence of this trailer means that is indeed true and it won’t get un-renewed or something like other shows these days.

Season 3 of Party Down premieres on Starz on Fri. Feb. 24th.

Oh, you can catch up/rewatch the other two seasons of Party Down on Hulu right now.

The Comedy Bureau Field Report Ep. 86: Catherine McCafferty & First 8 Days Living in NYC

Catherine McCafferty is on the way to achieving the dream of many comedians, being bi-coastal. McCafferty had been based out of LA for years doing stand-up, acting, and more, but has now just freshly broke ground in NYC. It was 8 days in for her on the day she recorded this episode of TCB Field Report with Jake Kroeger and it’s a great portrait of expectations meeting reality and the whirlwind that transplanting from one metropolis to another can be.

Also, “hot” and actually hot takes on Party Down revival, JFL NFTs, and an upcoming Lethal Weapon sequel with Mel Gibson attached to direct.

Party Down Revival Happening at Starz, Though Without Casey

November 16, 2021
News

For the Party Down loyal that carefully kept asking “Are we having fun yet?”, secretly hoping that the series would make a triumphant return (if networks are going to keep coming back to IP, might as well make it something that people were actually asking for), your wishes have been granted.

There indeed will be an actual revival of the cult comedy classic focused in on disillusioned catering service employees and their infamous pink bow ties. Starz was able to wrangle back the creators and the overwhelming majority of the cast, but, unfortunately, Lizzy Caplan, who played Casey (often played against Adam Scott for a will they/won’t they relationship), won’t be joining in due to prior commitments to other projects at Paramount+ and FX.

Adam Scott, Ken Marino, Jane Lynch, Ryan Hansen, Megan Mullally, and Martin Starr are all set to come back and that’s definitely something to be relished, but, until the season premiere, it’ll be a mystery of how they’re going to deal with Casey’s absence.

Considering the new Sex and the City is going forward without a Samantha, are series revivals are just going to push forward any way they can whether that includes principal cast or not? We’re sure there will be plenty more such revivals to find out if that’s true.

A Revival of Party Down Is In The Works at Starz

Henry’s torturous catch phrase “Are we having fun yet?” has been a sentiment that has been ringing in our head as capturing the spirit of remaining in lockdown because of the pandemic.

So, the idea of Party Down potentially returning is very much good news to us and, as far as revivals/reboots go via nostalgia bait, we’re fine with this one. If you haven’t watched Party Down yet, please stop singing the praises of Ted Lasso and go watch all of Party Down right now. There are only two seasons (and there indeed should have been more), so it ought to be a very satisfying binge.

Thus far, the original producing team of Rob Thomas, John Enbom, Paul Rudd and Dan Etheridge are committed to developing this possible revival at Starz and they’ve indicated that a good portion of the cast is likely to return (Adam Scott seems to be on board).

Perhaps, if this returns, we’ll have a better answer for the question, “Are we having fun yet?”

Vulture’s annual shindig, Vulture Festival is back for another round and plenty of stuff that you’ll really want to make the effort to get to the Hollywood Roosevelt for.

Their schedule already includes a Party Down reunion, a Community reunion, a Good Place panel, an AIM conversation with PEN15 creators, a MacGruber screening with live commentary from Will Forte, and a showcase of Vulture’s annual Comedians You Should and Will Know list*.

That very, very stacked schedule sounds pretty swell, right? Well, you best go get your tickets before they inevitably sell out here.

*Comedians You Should Will and Know showcase to happen at Dynasty Typewriter instead of Hollywood Roosevelt

Hulu has scored by getting exclusive rights to stream Party Down starting Friday. If you have Hulu Plus, you’ll get to watch the whole series at your leisure. Even if you don’t have Hulu Plus, the first five episodes of Party Down will be available to watch for free on Hulu for a little while.

So, if Hulu is really pushing for people to pay for a Hulu Plus subscription, this is a pretty damn good move.

Starz Finally Developing an Offbeat Romantic Dramedy, Now with Doug Liman

It’s been quite some time since Party Down, but Starz might be getting back into the comedy game with Doug Liman who you might know, comedy wise, from Swingers and Go.

While Doug Liman is more action oriented, it’s good that offbeat romantic dramedy is where Starz is staying genre wise.
