Ellen Burstyn To Star In Amy Poehler’s NBC Comedy Pilot ‘Old Soul’

Leave it to Amy Poehler to add Ellen Burstyn to the cast of Natasha Lyonne, Rita Moreno, Fred Willard, and Nick Thune, in her comedy pilot Old Soul at NBC to be directed David Wain.

We know that this post is almost identical to our post about Old Soul casting yesterday, but Poehler and co. just keep making it better and better thus necessitating us to almost repeat ourselves.

Whether it’s in promotion of the upcoming sitcom Undateable at NBC or just touring for the hell of it, Ron Funches, Chris D’Elia, Brent Morin, and Rick Glassman going to tell jokes around the country with series co-creator Bill Lawrence hosting is something you should probably catch.

Cities, dates, and their respective tickets at the link.

Fred Willard To Co-Star In Amy Poehler’s NBC Comedy Pilot ‘Old Soul’

This news means Natasha Lyonne, Rita Moreno, Nick Thune, and now Fred Willard will now be starring in a pilot produced by Amy Poehler and directed by David Wain.

Sounds pretty grand, right?

We hope that we get to see this relatively soon whether it gets a series order, which we sincerely are hoping for, or not.

Lena Dunham to Host SNL on Mar. 8th

With this announcement of Lena Dunham hosting SNL next week and the Internet’s proclivity towards parodying Girls (SNL included), we are wondering how many Girls based/themed sketches there will be.

In fact, we’d wouldn’t mind if most of this episode would be a parody of Girls as done by its creator.

After a big week with Jimmy Fallon taking over The Tonight Show, Seth Meyers will be having his big moment in delving into the late night arena with hosting Late Night.

Also on tonight, The Pete Holmes Show will be returning from its winter hiatus.

The best part of this is that you won’t have to miss either if you’re watching it live on TV as The Pete Holmes Show is on TBS at 12AM (and is only a half hour) and Late Night with Seth Meyers premieres at 12:35AM on NBC.

A whole row of funny people just got cast in NBC comedy pilots. Specifically…

Tone Bell joins Bad Judge
Nick Thune joins Old Soul
Tim Meadows joins Marry Me

Good casting choices thus far this pilot season for NBC.

Krysten Ritter Joining NBC Comedy Pilot ‘Mission Control’ from Will Ferrell

On both counts of Will Ferrell having an astronaut comedy pilot at NBC and Krysten Ritter joining the case, we’re hoping to see what will come of this as a series, especially since it has an element of Anchorman set in the arena of a space program.

Sure, the premiere of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon garnered big ratings and U2 played on a roof, but there’s nothing like a friendly time slot jab from Stephen Colbert.

Watch this whole bit where Fallon is collecting on celebrities that bet against him being host of The Tonight Show including Tina Fey, Seth Rogen, and more, then see what Colbert does at the end.

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Premieres Tonight

Tonight at midnight on NBC will be the premiere of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon with guests Will Smith and U2.

It’s a pretty historic moment, certainly one that happens less often than The Olympics, so you’ll probably want to watch.

Seth Meyers lined up his first week of guests nice and big, but it’s even better to hear that the first comedian to perform under the banner of Late Night with Seth Meyers will be the very funny Michael Che.

Monday, Feb. 24: Guests Amy Poehler, Vice President Joe Biden and musical guest A Great Big World.
Tuesday, Feb. 25: Guests Kanye West and author Robyn Doolittle (Crazy Town: The Rob Ford Story).
Wednesday, Feb. 26: Guests Kelly Ripa, Brad Paisley and musical guest Brad Paisley.
Thursday, Feb. 27: Guests Lena Dunham, Anthony Mackie and musical guest John Mayer Trio.
Friday, Feb. 28: Guests Ian McKellen & Patrick Stewart, Sophia Bush and comedian Michael Che.

Also, Fred Armisen will be leading what will be known as The 8G Band (referencing the studio they’re performing in, not $8000), the rest of which you can get to know here.

Colton Dunn Joins NBC Pilot ‘The Pro’

Rob Lowe’s tennis comedy pilot The Pro at NBC just keeps getting better. First, Rob Riggle is playing opposite of Lowe and now, the very funny Colton Dunn (who we would hope you know from Key & Peele or even rapping next to Eddie Pepitone on Arsenio) has joined the cast.

We really want to see this get picked up now.

Rob Riggle to Co-Star in NBC’s Rob Lowe Tennis Comedy Pilot

Rob Riggle who has a history of bringing the worlds of comedy and sports together is now set to play opposite Rob Lowe’s tennis comedy pilot The Pro at NBC.

We’re pretty sure this is what should be called perfect casting, especially considering that you could say Rob vs. Rob.

Rita Moreno To Co-Star In Amy Poehler’s NBC Comedy Pilot ‘Old Soul’

So, this news will make it Natasha Lyonne and Rita Moreno in a comedy pilot together produced by Amy Poehler and put Old Soul into an even higher profile this pilot season than it already is.

If this gets picked up, maybe there will be a crossover episode between Amy’s other series she produces, Broad City.

Erinn Hayes to Co-Star in NBC’s Casey Wilson, June Diane Raphael Pilot

Erinn Hayes makes a great addition to what we had a feeling would be a great pilot from Casey Wilson and June Diane Raphael, which one of a few projects that is making a solid case for NBC’s development slate right now.

Another such NBC pilot is one with Casey Wilson is starring in it, which we think is a solid move on their part.

Ken Marino to Star Opposite Casey Wilson in NBC Pilot ‘Marry Me’

Casey Wilson is not only re-teaming with David Caspe from Happy Endings for their NBC pilot Marry Me, but now, Ken Marino will star opposite her.

There are no details if he’s going to play more of the husband role that he’s played in Wanderlust or Burning Love, but we’re sure Marino is going to be great whether playing awful or great fiancé.

Jay Leno on Leaving ‘The Tonight Show’ Twice on 60 Minutes

Jay Leno and his wife Mavis sat down with 60 Minutes recently and chatted about his second departure from The Tonight Show, largely giving his final word about both transitions and that he’s OK with it. He also claims, in regards to what he’ll do post-Tonight Show, that he is done as a late night talk show host.

It’s a fascinating watch at this moment in time where the late night talk show batons are being handed back at NBC.

Reportedly, there will be no more lines outside of comedy clubs in order to audition for the upcoming season Last Comic Standing, but you’ll still be able to go without representation having to submit you on their behalf.

No word on a deadline, but ASAP would probably be better than letter.

NBC Orders Pilot of Rob Lowe Tennis Comedy ‘The Pro’

Rob Lowe is getting closer to moving from fictional politics to fictional former tennis fame in this comedy project The Pro that just got a pilot order at NBC.

We’re curious who else gets attached to this and if it’s going to be done with the mockumentary style that has gotten NBC so much success.

Bill Cosby Returning To NBC To Star In Family Comedy

NBC is having one of the most noted and respected names in comedy Bill Cosby back on the network.

There’s no specifics on what the half hour series would be, but given Cosby’s latest special Far From Finished, doing things like taking over Funny or Die’s Twitter account, constantly leading Jimmy Fallon through his late night segments during his appearance, we’d guess that this will be a Cosby Show for now.

NBC latest addition to their development slate this pilot season is Mission Control from Will Ferrell & Adam McKay’s Gary Sanchez Productions that’s something like an Anchorman set at NASA and Love is Relative from Borat’s Dan Mazer.

There’s lots of interesting stuff that we’d like to some series from.

NBC Orders Comedy Pilots From Casey Wilson/June Diane Raphael and Rashida Jones

NBC is seemingly off to a good start this round of pilot season as they have just ordered pilots from the hilarious duo of Casey Wilson and June Diane Raphael as well as one from the delightful Rashida Jones.

Perhaps, this time, they won’t let these projects go like they did with Mulaney.
