Pick of the Day: TCB 12 Yr. Anniversary (in LA) 11/5

November 4, 2022
News
anniversary show, Best Actress, chris estrada, guy branum, ian karmel, little secret, los angeles comedy, max beasley, natalie palamides, Rachel Kaly Roz Hernandez, stand up

Just starting from not exactly where open mics where outside of the one coffee shop in Long Beach that we started at to being as central a hub for all the comedy info you need in LA and NYC as can be, 12 years of The Comedy Bureau has been almost indescribable (mostly because pretty much all the work at TCB rests on the back of Jake Kroeger and he doesn’t have that much time to think about 12 years of doing this when there are listings to update).

It seemed prudent that we should celebrate the occasion and we’re doing exactly that this Saturday, Nov. 5th at the ultra cool Little Secret in Hollywood with the brilliant comedic talents of Natalie Palamides, Chris Estrada, Best Actress, Guy Branum, Rachel Kaly Roz Hernandez, Max Beasley, Ian Karmel. Oh yeah, TCB’s very own Jake Kroeger will be taking a slight break from having 200 or more tabs open on his web browser to host the show.

Also, this is the perfect way to party out the end of Daylight Savings Time.

The show is at 8PM. Tickets are $12. Go get ’em here.

The Comedy Bureau Field Report Ep. 118: Max Beasley & Being on the Side of Jokes

June 29, 2022
News, The Comedy Bureau Field Report
max beasley, nick nemeroff, trans, trans comedy

It’s one thing to be a rising star in the comedy scene and navigating all the terrain that comes with that, but it’s a whole other thing entirely to also navigate your identity, especially if you’re openly transitioning between genders at the same time. If you’ve seen one Max Beasley recently, you’ll agree that they’re balancing the two journeys exquisitely and getting funnier every time you see them. Max chats in-depth about the ins and outs of forging that path for themselves and always going for the jokes vs. so-called “clap-ter”.

Also, we say goodbye to the one and only Nick Nemeroff.

Pick of the Day: Bake Stuff with Lindsay Adams (in LA) 5/11

April 25, 2022
News
elysian, lindsay adams, max beasley, renee gauthier

Though we may have said it before, we’ll loudly and proudly say it again: Bake Stuff with Lindsay Adams will make you forget about every other cooking show you’ve binged watch over the last several years.

For the uninitiated, Lindsay Adams takes the format of what would be your run of the mill, “uplifting”, conflict-free baking show and then works in her own brand of reformed mean girl comedy that includes plenty of going in deep with the audience, amazing “stupid games”, and, of course, some of the most delicious baked goods that you’ve ever had a live comedy show.

This is one of those shows that we loved and missed so dearly during lockdown and we’re thrilled that it’s making a comeback at The Elysian on Wed. May 11th at 7PM PT. Lindsay will be assisted by rising star comedian Max Beasley, feature a very special guest Renee Gauthier, and baking up a transcendent Chicago Steakhouse Carrot Cake.

The antithesis of your typical wholesome tv baking show, it’s chaos in the most fun way possible. Along with a live step-by-step baking demonstration, there’s stand-up comedy, audience participation, and delightfully stupid games. We’ll be making Chicago Steakhouse Carrot Cake, Renee Gauthier will be our special guest, and Max Beasley is our on-hand assistant. Because we know you’ll ask – YES, you’ll get to taste the cake!

Tickets are $16 and you’re definitely getting more than your money’s worth for this one. So, go snag your tickets right here right now.

Pick of the Day: (2nd Return of) Blamblamblam (in LA) 4/19

April 18, 2022
News
Anna Seregina & Kyle Mizono, blamblamblam, brian kiley, brodie reed, chris thayer, comedy show, free show, james adomian, k town, los angeles comedy, max beasley, ron lynch, stand up comedy, steph tolev, Vanessa Jeha

In November 2021, we thought we had reached a threshold where we all the things that we knew and love in comedy could somewhat return to happening as regularly scheduled pre-pandemic.

Then, Omicron hit and set most folks/shows/etc. back for months. Thankfully, we’re back to where they rescheduled their shows to or decided to return again and that includes one of LA’s torch bearing shows, Blamblamblam. Faithfully housed in what seems like the lower decks of tall ship in K-Town’s one and only R-Bar, Blam has offered up an otherworldly monthly comedy show for almost a decade and a half.

There’s such a mystical energy to it even when it’s simply a well curated collection of comedians from many corners and disciplines of the art form by one DeMorge Brown. This 2nd return of Blamblamblam is set for this Tues. Apr. 19th at 9PM ish PT (doors at 7PM PT) and a barnburner of a line-up including Ron Lynch, Brodie Reed, Max Beasley, Anna Seregina & Kyle Mizono, Chris Thayer, James Adomian, Vanessa Jeha, Steph Tolev, Brian Kiley, and host Paul Danke & resident mischief starter Davey Johnson are all set to welcome Blam back into the world of living once more.

Oh yeah, it’s free to attend in case we didn’t sell you on it enough already.

Pick of the Day: Custody Battle (in LA) 7/16

July 8, 2021
News

At this point, you’ve probably caught wind of a thing called Roast Battle. Maybe you’ve even heard of it’s antithesis, Boast Rattle.

Well, now, there’s a new niche twist to two comedians going at each other’s throats with the best jokes they can come up with and it’s called, Custody Battle. If the comics are fighting for custody of something, the jokes might even get a little more personal, perhaps, but with the artifice of fake(?) hearing for custody of someone or something. Also, this will be a showcase of great women and LGBTQIA+ comedians.

On the inaugural Custody Battle, will be very fierce pairings of:
Matt LeGrande vs. Lindsay Adams
Tara McGorry vs. Maddie Collins
Alec Cole vs. Max Beasley

(plus a secret headliner).

Additionally, Custody Battle is happening on Fri. Jul. 16th at 9PM PT at an indie underground spot called Baader House that you’ll need to buy tickets in order to get the address (though we can tell you that it’s in on the Eastside in Boyle Heights). Tickets are $5 and you can Venmo @makeoutmusic for tickets.
