Pick of the Day: Mint Comedy x Comedy Cellar 1/1/21

No matter how lauded or venerable it may be, seeing any comedy venue survive these times is a blessing. There have been plenty of closures of celebrated comedy institutions around the country and there will very likely be more as the latest stimulus bill will likely fall short of what many venues need in terms of relief.

With that in mind, it’s great to see that The Comedy Cellar, one of the most respected comedy clubs in the country, is still standing as they get ready to earnestly put on a new round of virtual shows via Mint Comedy.

The very first one of these will happen on the first day of the new year at 12PM PT/3PM ET. The line-up is worthy of you being up that early post-NYE with Sean Patton, Dan Soder, Jessica Kirson, Mike Yard, Matthew Broussard, and Cipha Sounds (the sort of line-up that you’d see at the Cellar in the before times)

Tickets for live-stream access are only $7.99 and you can (and should) get them here.

People being nice to each other is such a novel concept these days that having people competitively complimenting each other would indeed be a basis for a show worth going out to see.

That’s why we keep telling you to go to Kyle Ayers Boast Rattle, which has its latest edition this Thursday with a “joy-filled, rosy eyed” line-up.

Tickets are $7 and you can (and really should) get them here.

Congratulations to Frank Castillo, who rose through the ranks from the humble beginnings of Roast Battle while working the door at The Comedy Store, and just clinched the title for the second ever Roast Battle tournament.

It almost seems like a rag to riches dream came true on the back of brutal roast jokes.

Last night, he bested Matthew Broussard in the final round and did so with a pretty ruthless set of burns. Watch his winning performance here.

Matthew Broussard Does a Very Tight Set on Conan on Female Anatomy

This week, Matthew Broussard not only manage to garner several applause breaks on his set on Conan, but did so while going in-depth on female anatomy for the majority of his set in such a way that’s hardly blue and doesn’t feel like “mansplaining”.

Trust us, Broussard made it all work. Watch it here.

Yes, that pun in the headline was intended.

Faux Internet-Sourced News Show “Not Exactly News” Coming to MTV2

(via Comedy Hype)

As MTV is bringing another wave of comedy to their networks, they are doing their version of a comedically bent news show.

Damien Lemon, Matthew Broussard, Dave Ebert, and the Internet’s Julia Kelly will be fabricating news stories off of the randomness of the Internet for MTV2′s latest show Not Exactly News. So, we’re guessing that it’s a cross between @midnight and SNL’s Weekend Update?

Will there be wars between various unlikely animal friends? Will there be a giant hamster eating a giant burrito?

Guess we’ll find out when the show premieres Jun. 17th at 11:30PM.

MTV2’s Guy Code Adds Byron Bowers, Fahim Anwar, More

MTV2’s panelist show Guy Code is not only on to its fifth season starting Jan. 14th, but it’s adding to a very solid handful of comedians to its roster.

This includes Byron Bowers, Matteo Lane, Fahim Anwar, Matthew Broussard, Monroe Martin, and more.

If you know this group at all, there should be a vastly differing perspective about whatever they’re trying to break down on Guy Code as well as it probably being really funny.
