Liz Meriwether and Lake Bell Are Teaming Up on Newlywed Comedy “Bless This Mess” and Have Scored Pilot Production Commitment from Fox

The creator of New Girl and the writer/director In a World… have got a new sitcom focusing on a newlywed couple escaping from NYC to Nebraska.

Meriwether wrote the pilot and Bell is attached to star and direct.

We’ll be curious to see if this will be done in black and white and maybe take any other cues from Alexander Payne’s Nebraska.

Lake Bell made a hell of a feature length film debut with In A World… and is now on her to sophomore work, I Do… Until I Don’t (maybe Bell has a thing for titles with ellipsis).

Bell will take a satirical look at the concept of marriage through three different marriages that just happen to feature Ed Helms, herself, Wyatt Cenac, Amber Heard, Paul Reiser, and Mary Steenburgen.

See for yourself in this trailer, then look for a release on September 1st.

FXx Orders Animated Post Apocalyptic Buddy Comedy “Cassius and Clay” Starring Kaitlin Olson, Lake Bell, and Susan Sarandon To Series

It’s being pitched as a female-led post-apocalyptic buddy comedy a la Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid, which also makes us think of the sort of show that would have happened had Thelma and Louise survived.

FXx’s latest comedy will be the animated Cassius and Clay from Archer’s Adam Reed and Megan Ganz whose written for both Community and Modern Family with a great cast in Kaitlin Olson from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Lake Bell from Childrens Hospital, and Susan Sarandon. The three of them would be a cool bunch in a number of different scenario, but a post-apocalyptic setting should be especially fun to watch. Also, they have a guest cast that includes none other than Jeffrey Tambor and Stephen Root.

It’s set to debut sometime next year on FXx and we have yet to figure if there will be any sort of connection or reference to Muhammad Ali’s former name.

FX Orders Animated Post Apocalyptic Western Comedy Pilot “Cassius & Clay”

As far as we can tell, it sounds like Westworld meets Thelma and Louise meets Blazing Saddles or future Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid as an animated comedy.

Lake Bell and Kaitlin Olson will voice a badass bandit duo that goes back and forth between staying in and out of trouble, but ultimately getting into trouble anyway in a world that’s both post apocalyptic America and popularizes saloons again. Other characters will be voiced by the likes of Jeffrey Tambor and Susan Sarandon (AKA Louise).

Megan Ganz and Adam Reed from Community/Modern Family and Archer respectively, wrote the pilot that we’re curious if it’ll explain the reference to Muhummad Ali’s original name.

Still, this sounds intriguing on so many levels that we hope it gets picked up just so we can see what it would look like.

It’s fantastic that almost the entire original cast of Wet Hot American Summer is returning to do the upcoming Netflix series.

It’s also pretty great that they’ll have some new “members” with some of indie comedy’s favorite players including Michaela Watkins, Randall Park (who you saw as Kim Jong-Un in The Interview), Lake Bell, John Slattery, Jayma Mays, Paul Scheer, and Rob Huebel.

It would almost seem that the first poster alone for this new Wet Hot American Summer will be barely able to contain this even bigger, great ensemble cast.

Lake Bell has just set herself up to have a potentially great follow up to her directorial debut, In a World.

The Emperor’s Children, a novel from Claire Messud that follows the NY intelligentsia before and after 9/11, was adapted into a screenplay by perhaps the perfect person to adapt such a story, Noah Baumbach, With the script in place, Lake Bell is now set to direct making for an undeniably intriguing collaboration.

We’ll definitely be waiting patiently for a trailer.

Soul Pancake’s Kid President, now a show on The Hub Network, has a problem that a majority of the country is currently having: talking on the phone.

So, writer/director/actress Lake Bell has offered her help for the Kid POTUS while he calls a girl. It gets almost as tense as any movie where an adult president is in danger, but without the threat of the nation coming under attack. This is also more fun to watch.

Lake Bell To Star In Rom-Com ‘Man Up’ Opposite Simon Pegg

While the idea of a romantic comedy called ‘Man Up’ could conjure up the image of stereotypical rom com that’s often written off as a chick flick, Lake Bell and Simon Pegg co-starring in ‘Man Up’ could make for something much more atypical and enjoyable.

Lake Bell’s “In a World” Delves Into the Competitive World of Voice Over

Lake Bell (Children’s Hospital) has made a seemingly delightful film on the world of doing voiceover and narration, especially focused on voice over for movie trailers. Such a world can be pretty funny and great when the likes of Tig Notaro, Ken Marino, Demetri Martin, Nick Offerman, and Fred Melamed in what might be one hell of a supporting role as a father.

Watch the trailer here.
