Paul Scheer Brought on as New Writer for the ‘Galaxy Quest’ TV Reboot at Amazon

Taking the reins of the script from Robert Gordon, the host of How Did This Get Made? (also, The League, Human Giant, Crash Test, and a million other things you love in comedy) Paul Scheer will now be writing the script for the new Galaxy Quest reboot as a TV series at Amazon.

Whether the original cast from the movie will join in has yet to be seen given the untimely passing of Alan Rickman.

Still, there seems to be endless, great possibilities with Paul Scheer now attached this project and we can’t wait to see what he might do.

Finally, there’s some restraint in Hollywood.

The swell of sequels, remakes and reboots in movies and TV continues strong as ever these days. Often times, the death of a crucial cast member often won’t stop such plans no matter how awkward the finished product might be.

That being said, the recently deceased Alan Rickman has halted the plans for the supposed Galaxy Quest sequel that was in the works over at Amazon Studios. Sam Rockwell, who was on board for a sequel, made the announcement while on the latest episode of the Nerdist podcast.

While more Galaxy Quest might not be in the cards for us, it’s a great nod to how incredibly singular Alan Rickman really was.

You may be tired of reboots, sequels, prequels, revivals, and/or adaptations, but we’re betting you’ll probably still give this a chance.

16 years ago, a fake spaceship crew became a real one in 1999′s Galaxy Quest and either enough time has passed or perhaps there is going to be such an influx of space based comedy shows following Other Space where Amazon wants to develop a series based on the movie with the writer, director, and producer of Galaxy Quest (Robert Gordon, Dean Parisot, and Mark Johnson respectively).

The project is still in its very beginning stages as no cast has been assembled yet. If Wet Hot American Summer can get their original cast back, Galaxy Quest has a good shot of getting Alan Rickman, Sigourney Weaver, Tim Allen, Sam Rockwell, Tony Shaloub, and Daryl Mitchell all back.

Paramount Adapting “Galaxy Quest” for TV

If this actually goes to series, they’ll be going head-to-head with Other Space.

It’s been over 15 years since Galaxy Quest was on the big screen and now Paramount is picking it as the latest TV show to be adapted/revived from something that happened ten years ago and more. The director, writer, and producer of the movie will be involved.

High concept sci-fi sitcoms are on the rise with the success of Last Man on Earth as well as the aforementioned Other Space.

Hopefully, they’ll handle the adaptation well and get as much of the cast including Sigourney Weaver, Sam Rockwell, and Tony Shaloub on board as they can.
