The Other Two Season 3 Is Finally Coming Next Week

While it has only been two years since season 2 aired, Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider‘s The Other Two is so blisteringly funny that the void left by the finale of season 2 made two years seem like a decade (in addition to COVID-19 and every other hellish thing that’s happening right now). Some of the very best jokes and bits about Hollywood and celebrity are in just the two seasons of the series (and some of the reason that it might be one of awards season’s biggest snubs).

Season 3 of The Other Two is just around the corner on HBO Max (not quite officially Max yet), and we sincerely hope that folks get to see what all the die-hard Other Two fans have been talking about since 2019. Get a taste of that yourself with the first look at season 3 here, then set a reminder for Thurs. May 3rd for the latest season premiere of The Other Two.

For 2017-2018, Comedy Central Announces a Reggie Watts Competition, New Negroes with Baron Vaughn and Open Mike Eagle, and Pilots from Arturo Castro, Neal Brennan, Noël Wells, and Awkwafina

It was already enticing enough to hear what Comedy Central has lined-up with late night thus far between Moshe Kasher, The President Show with Atamanuik’s Trump, Jim Jefferies, and Jordan Klepper’s new show.

Now, they’ve got a whole new chunk of programming and pilots that give a lot to look forward to.

Taskmaster, from Alex Horne, has Reggie Watts hosting a competition as the “taskmaster” between comedians performing “stupefying tasks”. New Negroes will be the TV adaptation of the live showcase hosted by Baron Vaughn and Open Mike Eagle featuring new black talent.

Comedy Central has also upped their digital series Alternatino with Arturo Castro and Delco Proper from John McKeever and Tommy Pope to full fledged TV pilots.

The other pilots include projects such as Neal Brennan interviewing celebrity guests in their home town, former Nightly Show contributor Franchesca Ramsey perhaps repackaging The Nightly Show, and a stand-up show from Jak Knight.

Scripted half-hour pilots include a South Side Chicago based comedy from Bashir Salahuddin, Diallo Riddle and Sultan Salahuddin, a Queens based comedy following rapper/actress/comedian Awkwafina, an Austin based sitcom from Noël Wells, and an existential sibling comedy from Chris Kelly & Sarah Schneider.

From this, we can only hope that Comedy Central reaffirms its place in comedy going forward as Netflix, HBO, and FX are currently riding the high tides of critical praise and awards.

Independent Spirit Awards Give Nominations to Other People, Morris From America, Swiss Army Man

Like many awards shows in awards season,  The Independent Spirit Awards deals heavily in drama with their nominations. That being said, they do usually acknowledge some comedic leaning works and this year is no different as you can see below.

Other People-Chris Kelly

Best First Screenplay
Other People-Chris Kelly
Jean of the Joneses-Stella Meghie

Best Supporting Male

For our money, Chris Kelly’s Other People floored us and Craig Robinson might have given one of his best performances to date in Morris From America.

It may seem like a very niche genre, but a number of films that mix drama and comedy over the last few years do so by having cancer worked into the plot.

Chris Kelly’s Other People is one of the best films of its kind as its emotional peaks are so comedically high and valleys are so dramatically grounded, all in the best, life affirming way possible. Molly Shannon gives a performance of a lifetime and then some as well.

You should definitely go see Other People in select theaters while you still can or buy it on iTunes.

Chris Kelly, whose work you’ve probably seen on SNL and Broad City, is making what looks to be a stunning feature film debut about a freshly unemployed comedy writer coming home to take care of his sick mother with Other People.

Kelly wrote and directed the feature, which had a nice run on the festival circuit, and stars Jesse Plemons, Molly Shannon, Bradley Whitford, and Zach Woods.

See for yourself what the buzz for this dramedy is all about in this trailer, then look for it in theaters on September 9th.

Saturday Night Live’s Chris Kelly is making a huge step forward with not only moving up to the director’s seat, but making his directorial debut one of a film following a gay SNL writer having to go home to take care of his ill mother and take care of other personal issues.

Jesse Plemons and Sissy Spacek are set to star in this film Other People. We’re not sure to what extent SNL is going to play into the movie, but this might be up the alley of all those still missing Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip.
