Billy Wayne Davis is one of our favorite comedians working today with his sly comic sensibilities masked by his welcoming voice (as well as being one of the rare comedians to record an album at Jack White’s Third Man Records).

He’ll be taping his brand new special this Wednesday at an old chapel at Mountain View Mortuary & Cemetery in Altadena, CA.

That’s right, you’ll get to see Billy tape his hour at a funeral home’s chapel.

There are two tapings, 7:30PM and 10:30PM, and they aiming to start on time. Admission is free so long as you RSVP at BookingBWD@gmail.com. We’re going to say that this will be worth the trek to Altadena if you’re not close.

1) JON DALY IS… Ticklish Cage?

Ticklish Cage from Jon Daly

2) Fox pulled this segment of comedian Bob Oschack interviewing Asian USC students about the inclusion of Colorado and Utah in the newly formed PAC 12 Conference due to many in the Asian American community being deeply offended.  Apparently, Asian college students not knowing about the newest developments in collegiate level sports conferences is incredibly embarassing.  As an Asian American USC alumni, I could say that the clip isn’t all that offensive, but then again, I don’t really care about my ethnicity at all.  Also, lighten the fuck up. [via America’s Comedy]

3) Tonight on TV: Futurama gets their season finale in a way that they’ve never been drawn before (Comedy Central 10PM), Louie also reaches its season finale (FX 10:30PM), NTSF:SD:SUV has former Crossing Jordan star Jerry O’Connell (Adult Swim 12:15AM), and Thursdays are running out of things to watch.

4) In LA open mic news, there will be a new open mic at the Hollywood Improv and an open mic for sketches at the Westside Comedy Theater (those interested must sign-up in advance) all this Sunday.

5) Here’s a list of recently released and upcoming comedy albums that you could go to most stores to pick up, unlike us going to Amoeba.

6) LA’s only rooftop comedy show, Long Way Down, gets a nice write-up in LAist.

4) The Compatish proves that miniature golf isn’t just for kids… or is it?

5) Tim Shaw expounds as to what it can take to be a truly great comedian and why that has made him retire from comedy.

6) Rob Delaney explains how having one of his jokes stolen invigorated him to conquer Twitter.

7) James Patterson has a beautiful story about why Yelapa isn’t a romantic getaway.

8) The singular Rick Shapiro will be on the Green Room with Paul Provenza (Showtime 11PM), Mark Hamill & Tony Hale are guest stars on NTSF:SD:SUV (Adult Swim 12:15AM), and Hitfix’s Alan Sepinwall makes a case for continuing to watching Louie, just in case you were on the fence (FX 11PM).

12) So, we got the most traffic we’ve ever gotten here yesterday and it was all because of a reblog/retweet of a PDF of a great article by Zach Dionne on the WTF Podcast. As it was misinterpreted by a few people as to who wrote the piece (it’s wasn’t us), we feel compelled to have an actual piece about Marc Maron here written by us, which will be a review of his new album “This Has To Be Funny”, to be posted very soon.

1) Russell Howard on Conan.

2) In one of the best Compatish’s yet, the gang goes raft racing and the trash talk goes to a whole other level.

3) So the comedy world will supposedly have it’s May 21st when Louis C.K. meets Dane Cook on Louie (FX 10:30PM). After the comedy world doesn’t implode on itself catch Rich Fulcher, Rob Riggle, and Paul Scheer on NTSF:SD:SUV (Adult Swim 12:15AM)

4) ON LATE NIGHT TV TONIGHT:  Ron Funches on Conan (TBS 11PM), Lewis Black, Kathleen Madigan, Jamie Kilstein, and more on The Green Room with Paul Provenza (Showtime 11PM), and Todd Glass on Jimmy Kimmel Live (ABC MIDNIGHT)

11) I tried to get into the Moth Storyslam last night, but couldn’t because 300 people who paid $8 to get in beat me to Zanzibar Live in Santa Monica last night.  That’s 300 people who paid money to hear stories that may or may not be good by people they’ve most likely never heard of.  Why can’t people be excited for comedy like this?

1) Watch comedic brilliance by Jon Dore & Rory Scovel on Conan. Oh yeah, they might do the same thing at Meltdown Comics on August 11th.

2) Want to be on a “High School Talent Show”?

Hot House, which normally hosts a fantastic “secret” comedy show, is putting the 3rd Annual Hot House High School Talent Show.  Already, it’s half booked, but if you’re interested, the show is on Thurs. July 21st 8PM and they’re looking to book all types of variety/comedy/character acts of varying lengths – but – no stand up (unless it is part of a larger character piece).

The basic theme of the night is the show takes place in a High School Auditorium hosted by the Vice Principal of Affairs.  Talent must decide up front whether to play a Student or an Administrator. And all acts should be between thirty seconds to three minutes (five if there is a real need) And let us know the general concept beforehand.

Nothing is too small or too stupid.  Please email mariecolette24@gmail.com if interested.

3) So Café Muse, to those comedians that put up with its open mic or shows, is now gone.  No more comedy will take place within its walls despite it being next door to the Comedy Central Stages.  We’re frankly surprised that it lasted this long as every time we’ve been there something along the lines of a frustrated white kid in his late 20’s would ask anyone who was black to be his black friend 5 minutes over the light would happen.

4) Don’t follow @MitziShore.  It’s not her.  Besides, gaining favor with her and an audition to be passed at the Comedy Store is a whole lot harder than just getting a fake account of her to follow you on Twitter.

5) Compatish goes cup stacking…

6) Weird Al Yankovic writes/confesses lyrics for the Conan theme.

7) Puddin’-“Books”

8) ON THE HORIZON
California for Alabama Benefit @ Meltdown Comics Wed. Aug. 3rd, 6:30PM $10
The Business @ Nerdist Theater Fri. July 15th, 8PM $10

9) COMEDY CRAWL

Persona! @ Hollywood Improv Lab 10PM $5
Love Machine Comedy Show @ M Bar 10PM $5
Paul Danke & Cornell Reid Live Tweet a Movie @PaulDanke & @Corneezy 10PM FREE

10) OPEN MIC RUN
SAL’S COMEDY HOLE 7356 Melrose Ave., Hollywood, CA 6PM/$4 minimum/first come, first served
COFEE BEAN 16101 Ventura Blvd., Encino, CA, Suite 180/Starts 7PM/mixed mic/no purchase necessary

11) I tried defending Tree of Life to my sister and mother who sat through it with me and the best I could come up with was, “Well, it’s best if you don’t try to figure it out.”  Now, if I only could write jokes that work like that.
