The Film Independent Spirit Awards Winners This Year Are More to Our Liking Than The Oscars
Though the winners of The Oscars have yet to be announced, the winners of The Film Independent Spirit Awards last night are much more up our alley with the nuanced, dark, and/or weird romantic comedies that took home awards.
Silver Linings Playbook took Best Feature, Best Director (David O. Russell), Best Screenplay (David O. Russell), Best Female Lead (Jennifer Lawrence) AND both Safety Not Guaranteed (Best First Screenplay, Derek Connolly) and The Sessions (Best Male Lead, John Hawkes/Best Supporting Female Lead, Helen Hunt).

We’re loving what Chill.com is doing with comedians and helping to release and distribute comedy specials. Especially since they’ve gone from Maria Bamford to Ari Shaffir to their latest one from the very funny and sharp, Tom Rhodes, Light Sweet Crude.
Only for $4.99, you can enjoy it right now, which you can do right here.
The Onion Apologizes For Tweeting That Quvenzhané Wallis Is a Cunt
When it comes to the issue of freedom of speech, especially as it relates to satire and irony in comedy, there will always be controversy. The one factor that will always defend comedy from the ever present controversy is the notion that the comedy comes first (i.e. we wanted to go for the laugh) over anything (i.e. political discourse, shock, etc.).
After The Onion’s lightning rod tweet during the Oscars telecast by plainly, and we’re not going out of context here, calling 9 year old actress, Oscar nominee, and star of Beasts of The Southern Wild, Quvenzhané Wallis, “a cunt”, (the tweet has since been removed), this apology was issued by Onion CEO Steve Hannah without any irony whatsoever, a rarity from the offices The Onion.
This is a perfect example of how shock took precedence over comedy. Yes, it’s still satire, but it’s almost entirely satire with very little left to laugh at.

Funny writer, blogger, Twitter extraordinaire (she is an official Twitter Queen opposite Rob Delaney as Twitter King), and more Kelly Oxford is releasing a book called “Everything Is Perfect When You’re a Liar”. You can check out her Twitter feed and her Tumblr, become a fan, then pre-order it for when the book comes out in the beginning of April.
Creator and star of Comedy Central sketch shows, Kroll Show, Nick Kroll gives a fascinating in-depth tour of his comedy career on the small screen. Chatting with the one and only Paul F. Tompkins, Kroll talks going from his first big TV series, the very short lived Cavemen to his current successful sketch TV show, which just got renewed for it’s second season.
Moshe Kasher, Parker Posey, Mira Sorvino, Brent Morin Latest To Be Cast in Pilots
Moshe is joining Rob Corddry at Spy, Parker Posey is starring along side the great JK Simmons, Mira Sorvino is in Jim Gaffigan’s pilot, and Brent Morin is starring in an untitled pilot.
This is all good news in case you were wondering. Hopefully, all these shows get picked up. Click the link for Hollywood Reporter’s comprehensive guide to this season’s pilots.
This Better Be Funny Ep. 62 with Jeremy and Lauren Thomas-Martin
This Better Be Funny is back to having guests because it’s not Valentine’s Day anymore. This week: The Martin Duprass
Opposite of the no guest Valentine’s Day episode, Jake and Jeremy have on The Martin Dupass, real life husband and wife comedy duo Jeremy Martin andLauren Thomas-Martin while just hanging out in the parking lot for the Hollywood Improv. As you’d expect riffing with a married couple would go, there’s jokes about home appliances, awkward presents, and attempting to do musical parodies. Also, local LA comedian Jason Van Glass shows up unannounced and interrupts (I promise this wasn’t planned), if you’re into that thing.

Networks Are After Maya Rudolph and Her Variety Show
Let’s hope that means it’ll skip a few steps in the development hell process if any or all of these networks really want in the very funny Maya Rudolph.
Thrash Lab put together a very succinct vignette with Patton Oswalt what performing on the road is like as a stand-up comedian. As a part of their “Rituals” web series, there is an inside look into Patton’s fascinating process as well as what the people of Irvine connect to in regards to Oswalt’s brand of comedy/comedy in general.
Pete Holmes’ Talk Show Goes to Series at TBS to Follow Conan
Yes! This means the hysterical Pete Holmes will be on TV at least four times a week. We hope you’re jumping up and down and making joyful noises because you should be.

Setting sail at the tail end of Summer thanks to MaximumFun.org, Splitsider, and KCRW, The Atlantic Comedy & Music Festival will feature three nights of of Maria Bamford, John Hodgman, Marc Maron, Eugene Mirman, Kristen Schaal & Kurt Braunohler, and much more. Yes, it’ll cost a pretty penny or many more than that, but definitely would be our cruise trip of choice if we we’re going to spend for being on a boat.
Hopefully, this will redefine the stereotypes of being a cruise ship comedian.

Adult Swim Renews ‘The Heart, She Holler’ For Season Two and Amy Sedaris Joins Cast
We’re happy to hear that Amy Sedaris will be back on TV as a regular cast member as well as Patton Oswalt back to top billing, but we’re also thoroughly intrigued what she will bring to the table of one of the few horror-comedy series on television.

A bunch of dysfunctional people are getting together to have brunch at a house and while issues rise to the surface, then the world might end, during their brunch. Along with David Cross, “It’s A Disaster” looks very enticing.
Reruns of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon Going to Cable
NBCU is letting one of its cable channels, The Esquire Network, to show reruns of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. This will definitely be interesting in how it might play out.
Also, G4 is now The Esquire Network, FYI.
E-mail is free and easy, not to mention, Google exists, so very few people use printed phone books these days. One of those people happens to be the hilarious Eddie Pepitone in this latest hysterical episode of Puddin’.
