Woody Harrelson Is Daniel Clowes’ Wilson in This Red Band Trailer

November 3, 2016
Uncategorized

The renowned darkly comedic Wilson by Daniel Clowes is being brought to life, or rather, to life within a film.

This first red band trailer is very enticing and laugh-out-loud funny with Woody Harrelson as the titular Wilson. The supporting cast of Laura Dern, Judy Greer, Cheryl Hines and Isabella Amara look pretty great as part of Wilson’s dysfunctionally functioning world.

This film adaptation of Wilson was thankfully written by Clowes and directed by Craig Johnson. Look for it in theaters on March 24th, 2017.

You can see the chaos that comes with being desperate to be famous in the new trailer, then catch Nerdland in theaters on December 6th.

Rory Scovel Is Literally a Man Above the People in His Latest Conan Set

Rory Scovel has a history of making the most of his televised stand-up performances.

On Conan alone, he’s done a set at the same time as Jon Dore, affected a Southern accent, and had a Liberace piano play in the background while in a tuxedo.

So, in this latest stand-up set on Conan, what could Rory do that would top all of that?

Well, watch, see, and, per usual, be amazed while laughing from your gut.

Comedians and actors Nick Kroll, Stephen Colbert, Conan O’Brien, Ryan Reynolds, Eric Andre, and Mike O’Brien are all pretty much straight as far as we know.

Yet, something was in the air yesterday, perhaps the looming end of the century old Curse of the Billy Goat, that had all three interviews end in the same spectacular fashion.

Well, without giving too much away, Mike O’Brien’s 7 Minutes in Heaven ends how he tries to end all episodes of 7 Minutes in Heaven and Conan O’Brien reenacts the Notebook with Ryan Reynolds.

You can take a wild guess what the common link between these interviews are or just enjoy watching male friendship be taken to the next level between the likes of Colbert and Kroll.

Watch Louis CK on Hillary (with Minimal Trump Bashing), the Prospect of Dancing, and Walking Around NYC with His Fly Down

When you see Louis CK on TV these days, expect a deeply human story born out of very simple, relatable embarrassment, an original angle on the zeitgeist, and comparisons that come out of a left field for comedic effect. Those are some of the big elements that have made him this balance between a grounded, organic comedian/storyteller/filmmaker while maintaining a bit of his absurdist flights of fancy.

He delivered on all three in his appearance on Conan last night starting of with a great case for Hillary Clinton being President sans very many digs at Trump and his supporters.

Then, he followed it up with a story about how he learned the value of honesty and openness through walking around the city with his fly down and open and then breaking down the idea of dancing, both as something that can empower and also promise someone a heartbreaking path in life.

If you use a bit of imagination, you can make this up as an episode of Louie to play out in your head.

The Weather Channel to Have a ‘Chill Marathon’ on Election Day

Taking cues from The Puppy Bowl that airs opposite The Super Bowl, The Weather Channel is looking to be your refuge on November 8th, which sure might be one of the most insane days in U.S. politics in this century.

From 12PM PDT to 9PM PDT next Tuesday, clouds, rainbows, smooth jazz, “autumn splendor”, and more look to soothe citizens of America on The Weather Channel after potentially hearing about Trump poll watchers incite violence like Trump supporters do at their rallies, unending flows of misogyny, racism, xenophobia, etc.

Between this, The Chris Gethard Show Election Special, Stephen Colbert’s Live Election Night: Democracy’s Series Finale: Who’s Going to Clean Up This Sh*t?, and Hillary winning, America can hopefully have a great night next Tuesday.

Chris Garcia Is Developing Sitcom Based on His Life and Family with Fox and The Lonely Island

Chris Garcia’s story and comedy being put into a TV series is long overdue.

Son to Cuban immigrants that made it out of Cuba into the U.S. despite the odds being against them, Chris Garcia has become a truly wonderful comedian.

Over the last couple of years, he’s really delved into his identity as a Cuban American and you’ve probably heard some of the stories on NPR, WTF with Marc Maron, or his fantastic stand-up album, Laughing and Crying at the Same Time.

Now, Chris might get to tell the story of his life and his family trying to make it on television over at Fox thanks to The Lonely Island. It being Fox and The Lonely Island and Garcia, we can see how this project could potentially be like no other family sitcom you’ve ever seen before (that’s a really good thing).

Giphy Has Created a Very Easy Way to Turn Your Vines Into .GIFs

Very smart move, Giphy.

While the Internet is mourning being too little too late for the shuttering of the six-second looped video app Vine, know that all that viral content isn’t going to fall by the wayside.

.GIF sharing service Giphy has capitalized on the moment and developed a “Vine importer” that will allow all of your clever six second visual jokes live on, sound included, well beyond Vine in their same basic form.

Thank goodness this exist as we’re pretty sure the Library of Congress hasn’t gotten around to archiving Vine videos like they have tweets.

Sure, getting a comedy album called Dead Waite that was just released on Halloween seems like the perfect intersection between this holiday and stand-up comedy.

You should also know that the brand new hour of stand-up from goofball extraordinaire Dave Waite is one hell of a good comedy album. Dave has really honed his style that is completely self-aware of his cool silliness vibrating through every minute and reveling in it.

Just see for yourself in these great animated clips  (animation by Alex Leeds) on saying “goddamn” and wanting to be an archeologist as a kid.

So, get Dead Waite off of On Tour Records, not only because the title fits in nicely with Halloween, but also because you want some damn good comedy regardless of what day of the year it is.

Mike Schur Just Got Another Comedy Project, Actionland, in Development at NBC, This Time with Matt Hubbard

NBC really doesn’t want to let Mike Schur make another hit show anywhere else.

Again, Mike Schur hasn’t gotten The Good Place isn’t even picked for a second season yet and he already has Landlords in development at NBC with Matt Murray and, on top of that, just gotten to develop another comedy project with another Matt.

Actionland, written by Matt Hubbard, will be a workplace comedy set at below average amusement park in Arizona. There’s a lot of potential to be had there, especially since the staff of amusement parks have proven to be a solid catalyst for comedy.

If these two projects go to series, Schur could be in rare company by having more than a few sitcoms on network TV at the same time.
