This White House Plumbers Trailer Promises a Dramedy Miniseries of One of America’s Biggest Blunders

The historic American debacle that has forever been known as “Watergate” (so infamous that it would be the go-to reference to name so many public scandals that followed it) has been and will very likely continue to be reenacted in TV and movies due to how truly incredulous and botched the whole affair was.

Thus, HBO, Veep’s David Mandel, Woody Harrelson, and Justin Theroux have assembled to do a mini-series, White House Plumbers, following E. Howard Hunt and G. Gordon Liddy, the bad actors that were caught at the Watergate Hotel tampering on behalf of Nixon’s re-election campaign. It’s fitting that Mandel is at the helm here as there is plenty of Veep-style humor baked into Watergate as one can see in the trailer that dropped this week. White House Plumbers will very likely enter awards consideration as a dramatic mini-series, but probably much in the sam spirit that Succession is a drama.

Take a gander at the utter ridiculousness that spiraled into Watergate with this trailer for White House Plumbers here. Then, look for its premiere on HBO starting Mon. May 1st.

Woody Harrelson Will Be Doing a Feature Length Live Film About His London Arrest and Broadcast It Into Theaters

Almost 15 years ago, Woody Harrelson had an incident in a taxi in London that ended up getting him arrested.

Now, based on that very incident, Harrelson wants to make some cinema history.

Woody Harrelson wrote a feature length film about the incident, which is called Lost in London. Apparently, he will be performing the film live with Owen Wilson and Willie Nelson. As technology is in a much different place than it was in 2002, this live performance can be captured as a film ostensibly done in “one take” and broadcast into theaters as it is happening.

You didn’t read that wrong.

Woody Harrelson will essentially be doing a one-take film live and live streaming it into a movie theater near you.

Live streaming performances into theaters has existed for years now, but only for events such as Opera at the Met or Rifftrax. Something as ambitious as Lost in London could be breaking new ground for cinema, broadcast, comedy, live performance, performance art, etc.

Woody explains the details in this trailer and claims that it might great or a disaster, but definitely worth watching. We concur with this assessment.

Lost in London LIVE is set to happen next week on Thursday, January 19th, 2017. You can get your tickets via Fathom Events here.

Woody Harrelson Is Daniel Clowes’ Wilson in This Red Band Trailer

The renowned darkly comedic Wilson by Daniel Clowes is being brought to life, or rather, to life within a film.

This first red band trailer is very enticing and laugh-out-loud funny with Woody Harrelson as the titular Wilson. The supporting cast of Laura Dern, Judy Greer, Cheryl Hines and Isabella Amara look pretty great as part of Wilson’s dysfunctionally functioning world.

This film adaptation of Wilson was thankfully written by Clowes and directed by Craig Johnson. Look for it in theaters on March 24th, 2017.

2016 has brought a handful of really wonderful coming-of-age dramedies. Namely, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Sing Street, and Morris From America have been fantastic movies perfectly balancing adolescence, drama, and humor.

From the looks of this brand new trailer, the upcoming The Edge of Seventeen might just be part of that group.

We’ll see if that’s true when it hits theaters on November 18th.

Edge of Seventeen Trailer Shows Promise as Another Solid Teen Coming of Age Dramedy

Just because well-trodden territory is well-trodden territory doesn’t mean worthwhile things can be found or made from it.

For instance, Edge of Seventeen from writer/director Kelly Fremon starring Hailee Steinfeld follows the crushing teen angst of high school and everything surrounding it. A whole subgenre of this type of movie surely exists on Netflix, but from the looks of the trailer, it might be worth catching.
