Hannibal Buress Hired a Fan, Who Doesn’t Even Really Look or Sound Like Him, To Go as Hannibal to the Premiere of Spider-Man Homecoming

Apparently, everyone, including people working the red carpet, just went along with the fact the guy said he was famous comedian and actor Hannibal Buress.

We can only hope that this prank is the start of a rabbit hole that Hannibal will dive much further into.

The inaugural edition of this show was so much damn fun. If you thought that comedians playing very bad video games was a winning formula, you were right on.

Again, Mike Drucker put together another great line-up that will play and riff through some of the worst of the worst in the video game canon.

Tickets are $10, but you can enter to win free tickets via our friends at DoLA.

Dana Gould’s Latest Album “Mr. Funny Man” to Come Out This Fall From Kill Rock Stars

When considering what goes into the craftsmanship of stand-up comedy, Dana Gould is, without a doubt, one of the art form’s best practitioners. His past three albums are absolutely required listening for any comedy fan.

We’re pretty sure his fourth album, Mr. Funny Man, will be required listening as well. As Dana has just announced it, look for it later this fall on Kill Rock Stars, a label that has a pretty stellar record in terms of comedy albums (Esposito, Braunohler, Karmel, Kondabolu, etc.) over the last few years.

Rae dives hard into dating and, as you can see in the trailer, it’s full of opportunity to be anxiety-ridden on so many levels.

Look for the season 2 premiere of Insecure on Sunday, July 23rd at 10:30PM.

Abbi Jacobson To Host a New Podcast, “A Piece of Work”, That Has Jacobson Break Down Art with Guests

In addition to being the Abbi from Broad City that you know and love, Abbi Jacobson has made plenty of her own milestones in the art world with a degree in art school and getting her own illustrated books published.

Now, Abbi will act as a bridge from the art world to the general public with a new podcast series in collaboration from WNYC and MoMA. Called A Piece of Work, Abbi will focus on specific art movements and have on big time guests that come from both the art world and Tinseltown.

It’s only going for 10 episodes, but we would imagine it could much longer if Abbi’s up for it. Look for the episodes to start dropping on Monday, July 10th.

Louie, Better Things, Master of None, Lopez, I’m Dying Up Here, and Dice are just a few sitcoms in recent memory that follow the lives and times of various real people (or reasonable facsimiles of real people) in and around comedy.

Andrea Savage’s I’m Sorry coming to TruTV on July 12th at 10PM will be the latest to join that subgenre and, from the trailer, it looks like it’ll be able to hold its own.

See for yourself here.

Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner Are in Talks to Write That English Language Remake of “Toni Erdmann”

The key creative forces behind Girls, Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner, might be teaming up once again to write an English language version of the hit R-rated European comedy about how important family is, Toni Erdmann. If things are lining up the way that murmurs about this project say they are, Jack Nicholson and Kristen Wiig might be involved.

We happened to love the original a whole lot by the way.

If this ends up being a way to both make a reliable remake for U.S. audiences and encourage another round of viewing of the aforementioned original, we’re more on board for this than we originally were.

The UCB 4 to Reunite for Performance at Carnegie Hall, Becoming One of the Few Improv Teams/Troupes to Ever Play The World Renowned Venue

For a very long time, playing NYC’s Carnegie Hall as a comedian was an unquestioned achievement in comedy of the highest order. As is, playing Carnegie Hall is an incredibly rare feat no matter what your artistic discipline might be.

Still, mostly comedians that play Carnegie Hall are stand-up comedians. We looked through the list of past performers, we found that the only other instance of improv was Drew Carey doing night with some Whose Line Is It Anyway? folks like Jeff B. Davis and Greg Proops for the New York Comedy Festival. The Firesign Theatre, which only had an improvised feel, also performed there several decades ago.

So, Amy Poehler, Matt Walsh, Ian Roberts, and Matt Besser, often referred to as The UCB 4, will be kicking off 2018′s Del Close Marathon performing together once again and simultaneously being one of the only groups to do their version of long form improv on such a hallowed stage.

With that in mind, you better keep a close eye on tickets going on sale if you want to go.

The Polka King, the True Crime Biopic Comedy Starring Jack Black, Will Be Coming to Netflix

A documentary called The Man Who Would Be Polka King by Joshua Brown and John Mikulak followed a Ponzi scheme gone awry with an actual polka legend, Jan Lewan.

Jack Black stars as Lewan in the biopic adaptation of the documentary entitled The Polka King and will be coming to Netflix later this year.

Based on the premise and Black starring, we’re automatically thinking this could be a very dark spiritual sequel to School of Rock.

Facebook Willing to Pay Millions Per Episode for Exclusive Scripted and Non-Scripted Series

Facebook is making it known that it wants to step into the arena with likes of Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, and YouTube by letting Hollywood’s top agencies that they’re putting up millions, potentially $3 million per episode, for exclusive access to a star studded TV show.

For sitcoms specifically, they’re thinking about mid-six figures, though it should be noted that they’re aiming for family friendly content, probably because the streaming giants have a big focus on shows for high brow mature audiences.

Any specific projects have yet to be announced, but don’t be surprised to see something in your FB feed soon.
