The Entire Canon of The Powerpuff Girls Is Coming to Hulu

This move will include the original series from the brilliant Craig McCracken and Cartoon Network that so many of us love and remember as well as the new series that got a nod from The Emmys.

FYI, Hulu will be the only place to stream Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup saving the world for a few years.

TBS’ Search Party Starring Alia Shawkat Premieres Tonight and Is Also Streaming the Whole Season Online Right Now

You can watch the amazing writing-directing duo of Charles Rogers and Sarah-Violet Bliss present their latest work in a back-to-back episode series premiere of Search Party. There are very few people who nail millennials quite like Rogers and Bliss in a way that’s both organic and satirical.

In the show, Alia Shawkat leads a literal search party for a missing “friend” when she herself is pretty lost as is.

If you’re already hooked and have a cable login, you can watch all ten episodes right now at the link above. If you’re watching it the old school way on air, the premiere is at 11PM on TBS.

3 New Dave Chappelle Specials Coming Soon to Netflix

This means that Netflix will have two Chris Rock specials and three Dave Chappelle specials coming up soon. Chappelle gave a great taste of what’s to come from his recent SNL monologue.

Maybe, Rock and Chappelle will end up doing that tour that they was vaguely floated out there for a minute.

In any case, be sure to have access to Netflix when all of this starts streaming.

Stephen Colbert and John Oliver Reflect on Trump Win and Where They Go From Here

While at a panel discussion at a Montclair Film Festival called “Wow, That Was Weird”, Colbert says his live election results show was one of the hardest things that he has ever had to do and Oliver was glad he wasn’t Stephen on that fateful night.

Under a Trump Administration, one has to wonder if a more defiant Colbert, a Colbert leaning more towards the one that brought him into the national spotlight, will be delivering a nightly monologue on The Late Show. The episodes of The Late Show over the last two weeks make it seem so.

For making civics and complex social issues digestible and hilarious, we expect John Oliver will continue on doing his crucial work on Last Week Tonight.

Support Johan Miranda on Patreon, a Great Up and Coming Comedian Who Is Also a DACA Recipient (i.e. Whether He’ll Be Able to Work and Stay in the Country Is Up in the Air Right Now)

Johan Miranda has cemented himself in LA’s vast comedy scene and is one of many that deserves to stay in our good ol’ US of A.

From fellow comedian Clare O’Kane:

“Your friend and mine, mister Johan Miranda, is currently looking for work as a comedy writer. Johan was a recipient of DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) “an executive action that provides a work permit and deportation reprieve to people who were brought to the U.S. as children and stayed illegally."Dingus Trump claims he will do away with DACA when he is in the Whitest House U’ Know. IF he follows through with this, our bud Johan will have his work permit revoked and he will no longer be able to legally work in the US. This will make life harder for our friend, so let’s do what we can to help him. Below is a link to Johan’s Patreon page. Here you can set up a monthly donation for Johan while he continues to pursue a career in comedy writing. Johan is one of the most talented, kindhearted dudes I know. Let’s help Johan stay/work/party in America.”

The link to his Patreon page is above.

Nightly Show Head Writer Robin Thede and Chris Rock Are Making a Weekly Comedy News Show Pilot “The Rundown with Robin Thede”

While this is being announced as “…a fast-paced half-hour look at the week’s headlines, celebrity newsmakers, social media buzz and pop culture trends,” don’t be surprised if Thede and Rock have something more clever up their sleeves.

Since the cancellation of The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore, there seems to be a void where Wilmore’s voice once was in late night. The precision of Last Week Tonight and the unapologetic fire of Full Frontal with Samantha Bee have cemented their places in late night, but it would seem that The Nightly Show just didn’t get enough time to figure out where it fit in the post-Daily-Show-with-Jon-Stewart world.

Now, with this pilot being made and shopped around with Chris Rock on board, Thede might just pick up the baton that Wilmore had to set down.

Natasha Rothwell Upped To Regular On ‘Insecure’ and Will Also Develop Her Own Comedy At HBO

You might have seen Natasha Rothwell on Netflix’s comedy mini-series Characters, but she’s now on her way to bigger things.

She just got bumped up to being a regular on Insecure, which just earned itself a second season pickup, and, even more impressive, will be developing her own project at HBO that she’ll be writing and starring in.

If everything goes according to plan here, HBO’s comedy line-up will have a much more diverse look than a couple of years ago.

Aasif Mandvi’s Satirical Muslim Family Sitcom “Halal in the Family” Seems More Important Than Ever

This web series was released awhile ago and won a Peabody Award, but given how fighting Islamophobia is, for some reason (potential Muslim registry, anyone?), now more important than ever, Aasif Mandvi’s Halal in the Family is a nice satirical reminder that we have more in common with each other than we don’t.

Oh, also, it’s so darkly funny on top of all of its social commentary. Watch, enjoy, and share.

Patton Oswalt Will Host WGA Awards for Second Time

We’re glad to see that Patton is back.

Come February 19th, Patton Oswalt will once again take up duties as host of the Writers Guild of America Awards. This particular awards ceremony affords a little more latitude since it’s not televised, which should make for some damn fine jokes from Patton.

Full Frontal with Samantha Bee Renewed by TBS Through 2017

Samantha Bee will be as crucial as ever to have around over the next few years.

Full Frontal with Samantha Bee just got re-upped by TBS through next year and will move to Wednesdays at 10:30PM still right before Conan.

Look for the 2017 run of the show to kick off on January 11th, which should get you fired about before a certain inauguration.

Divorce and Insecure Are Renewed for a Second Season at HBO

HBO’s latest comedies, Divorce and Insecure, just got picked up for their season, which should play nicely opposite the other end of HBO’s comedy line-up with Veep and Silicon Valley.

Brett Gelman Says He Has Severed Ties with Adult Swim Due to Their Treatment of Women

Given Adult Swim head Mike Lazzo’s comments on hiring women along with having an alt-right comedy show coming up, Brett Gelman will be taking his “Dinner with…” specials elsewhere.

Unless Adult Swim changes their tune soon with their actions, this might be only the beginning of the fallout between the niche comedy network and its talent.

Funny or Die’s The Earliest Show Has Ben Schwartz and Lauren Lapkus Deal with a Talk Show Gone Off the Rails

TJ Miller has been noted to make morning talk shows go off the rails.

Funny or Die’s faux version of an early morning talk show might just be somehow even more chaotic.

Ben Schwartz and Lauren Lapkus co-host The Earliest Show on Funny or Die that has all the trappings of your stereotypical, cheery talk show that’s on at 6AM. However, there’s a dark undertone that Schwarz and Lapkus deal with that makes this a little more absurdly serious than your average talk show parody.

There are two episodes released right now, but there are more coming each week.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller Just Got Their TV Deal Renewed at 20th Century Fox for Next 3 Years

Here’s one thing to look forward to in the coming years.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller have been Hollywood golden boys of sorts with the successful launch of The Lego Movie franchise and having a hand in a good deal of Fox’s current TV comedy line-up.

Fox is making sure they’re staying in the Lord and Miller business as their deal to develop television projects has been renewed for another three years.

We can only hope that they get more wonderfully weird with their future shows that they’ll have in the works.

Vine May Not Come to an End After All If Twitter Sells It Off

Vine May Not Come to an End After All If Twitter Sells It Off

Looks like Twitter underestimated the love for Vine.

Slightly rolling back on their announcement that Vine will be closing up shop, Twitter has now announced a glimmer of hope for the app pending a decision to sell the app off.

The likelihood of this is happening is up in the air, but keeping Vine around without having to maintain the app on their end should prove beneficial to Twitter.

If it does get sold off, it will be intriguing to see it compete with the likes of Snapchat or Instagram Stories or any number of other apps for short form videos after Twitter announcing its final days had been numbered.

That does technically mean you could still have a chance to be a Vine star.

FX Buys Shari Berman & Robert Pulcini’s Political Serio-Comedy “Flatlands”

When it comes to comedies on FX, they definitely look to continue standing with the premium cable networks and streaming services.

Shari Berman and Robert Pulcini, the filmmakers that brought you American Splendor are now developing a series following a Brooklyn PTA mother that becomes hungry for political power and doing whatever is necessary to gain said power.

If this goes to series, this will join FX’s current, active line-up of prestige comedies Baskets, Atlanta, and Better Things. That’s a pretty great batting order if you ask us.

3rd Attempt to Make US Version of Cult UK Comedy “Pulling”, Co-Created and Starring Sharon Horgan,  Happening at NBC

It looks like one way or another, a U.S. version of Pulling will make it to television.

A decade ago, Sharon Horgan started off her rise in comedy with co-creating (along with Dennis Kelly) and co-starring in Pulling, a hit UK sitcom following the lives of three 21st century women living together. Since then, Horgan has worked her name into the States with the critically acclaimed Catastrophe.

Either making things come full circle or complete her rise in America (Horgan also has a bunch of other irons in the TV fire including being involved in HBO’s Divorce), NBC is developing an American adaptation of Pulling that will be written by Wendy and Lizzie Molyneux from Bob’s Burgers. Previous attempts to make this happen at ABC have gone nowhere (including one with June Diane Raphael, Jenny Slate, and Kristen Schaal), but maybe the timing was just off.

Certainly, Horgan has way more pull in the US than in years past.

Stephen Colbert’s Live Election Night: Democracy’s Series Finale: Who’s Going to Clean Up This Sh*t? To Replay on Friday’s Late Show on CBS

Wouldn’t it be amazing if CBS had to bleep and blur most of it?

For the significant niche segment of late night viewers that don’t have access to Showtime and want to watch stuff through legal means, the election night special that Stephen Colbert is doing on the premium cable network will play on CBS in place of the normally scheduled episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert at 11:35PM this Friday.

So, if you don’t watch any of the clips that will very probably appear online and don’t read any of the coverage of what Colbert will do for a few days, you’ll get to see it with completely fresh eyes at the end of the week. This probably means you’ll have to not know how won the election until Friday as well.
