VICELAND Is Taking Another Crack at Having a Talk Show with Danny Brown and “Danny’s House”

VICE and VICELAND are dead set on figuring this talk show/late night thing out.

They had Desus & Mero, now enjoying their time at Showtime, and then they tried a wild experiment of a two-hour, completely live variety talk show with four hosts called Vice Live. That was unfortunately very, very short lived.

Now, their latest take on talk show will come from rapper Danny Brown in something that seems more akin to The Eric Andre Show, but slightly more grounded (as it happens at “Danny’s House” and the guests seem to be more in on what’s happening).

That said, it still looks more crazy and different than most other things in the late night/talk show world (a thing we’re always game for). See for yourself in the trailer for Danny’s House. If you’re into it, you’ll want to catch the series premiere this week on Aug. 14th at VICELAND.

Today, Vice’s new venture, Viceland, released its first batch of episodes for all of their new shows. Among them is Flophouse where renowned director Lance Bangs delves into the wondrous chaos that is a comedy show held in a house.

The first episode is set in our backyard, specifically in Highland Park, at the house of Solomon Georgio, James Austin Johnson, and Eric Dadourian featuring performances from Solomon, Eric, James Adomian, Alice Wetterlund, Clare O’Kane, Brandon Wardell, and Curtis Cook as well as a complimentary rap battle w/Open Mike Eagle, a mattress in the middle of the floor, a bow and arrows, rain (for some reason) and more.

Watch it all really happen here.

Watch Trailer’s for Lance Bangs’ “Flophouse” Where He Explores the Comedy Underground

Since time immemorial, comedians have often lived together in what many would considered cramped, messy, and raucous living situations. Comedians, for the most part, think it’s just fine.

In this latest golden era of comedy, there’s a whole new excitement brewing in the underground and, with the aid of the Internet, it’s not quite as underground (i.e. no one has ever heard of it) as it used to be.

Lance Bangs explores this subculture that’s bridging its way to the big time, though, on its own terms, in his Viceland series Flophouse. Specifically, he goes through these comedian ‘flophouses’ and then sees them all put on a live show on a rooftop, in a back yard, in a garage, etc.

Here’s a trailer for Flophouse in case you’re curious as to what this all looks like and haven’t gotten the luck to go to a house comedy show.

By the way, featured in the trailer are:
Kate Willett, Clare O’Kane, Solomon Georgio, Amy Miller, Brent Weinbach, Brandon Wardell, Eric Dadourian, Dave Stone, Maria Bamford, James Adomian, Sean Patton, James Austin Johnson, David Gborie, Steve Agee, and much more.

Look for Flophouse to come to Vice’s new Viceland on Feb. 29th.

Vice Is Getting Their Own Channel, Viceland, and You Bet That They Have a Comedy Show

Of course, this being Vice, it’s called The Flop House.

H2, the expansion of The History Channel, hasn’t been working out and A+E and Vice have come together to take that spot and make into a brand new channel called Viceland.

It’ll be an entire Vice-bent network with series following LGBT explorations around the globe with Ellen Page, eating with Action Bronson, and a house party comedy show featuring stand-up called The Flop House.

In a launch reel for Viceland, you can see Solomon Georgio and Brandon Wardell doing stand-up at a house and we’re sure that there is way more tomfoolery in store for the show beyond that.

Look for Viceland to launch sometime next year, possibly in late February.

So, is The Onion going to become the one site to parody them all?

They parodied the likes of BuzzFeed with Clickhole so well that one of the Clickhole writers got hired at BuzzFeed.

Now, The Onion is going to take on the edgiest news outlet out there, VICE with a weekly web series called EDGE starting next week.

With the launch of EDGE, we’ll all have to see if VICE, in true VICE fashion, would do an investigative report into why they’re being parodied.

Rather than just talks, this will be walks and talks with Marc Maron.

As part of Vice’s new VICE TV, Marc will be doing the sort of intimate interviewing that has put him at the forefront of podcasting for a new show called “VICE Portraits”.

According to an e-mail to his fans, he’ll be chatting with guests to and fro to a place that may be relevant or challenging to that guest.

Already, we can imagine something like an anything goes chat with Dave Anthony in something that’s enclosed and close quarters perhaps like a submarine.

John Oliver Apparently Making Thai Government Feel Uneasy

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver has been blazing quite a trail ever since its premiere on HBO, not pulling any punches with any of its segments or jokes. As a result, POM Wonderful, a marketing company responsible for an ad for Oregon’s healthcare website, the FCC’s Tom Wheeler, and more have actually and very publicly responded to Oliver’s jabs at them.

The latest in this group reportedly happens to be the Thai government that doesn’t at all appreciate John Oliver’s jabs at Thailand’s Crown Prince. Vice reports that the junta that’s currently in power is “paranoid” about a segment that lambasted the Crown Prince.

Do note that there are laws in place in Thailand where you could go to jail for any such mockery of the royal family.
