The beloved holiday tradition created by legendary sitcom Seinfeld, Festivus, has grown steadily in popularity over the years.

There’s an entire site dedicated to it and the numerous traditions to observe such as the feats of strength. Now, Tumblr has put up their version of Christmas lights by making a Seinfeld-esque version of their logo and temporarily enabling you to have a Festivus Mode if you’re a Tumblr user, which enables the Seinfeld theme to play while you scroll.

For however many times we’ve heard Mariah Carey’s  All I Want For Christmas Is You played anywhere recently, we’re more than happy to get in the Festivus mood with some fun bass and synth.

The last few weeks have seen a few new social media innovations that might make being plugged into watching your favorite sketch group or listening to your favorite podcast while scrolling through your timeline.

Twitter has just introduced an “Audio Card” that will allow you to listen to embedded audio, just via SoundCloud for now, while combing through your favorite tweets or possibly tweeting yourself (perhaps, live tweeting a podcast if you have way too much free time on your hands, perhaps?).

Weeks ago, Yahoo’s Marissa Mayer announced that the Tumblr video player would get an overhaul. Their first version of the new Tumblr video player has arrived and it does indeed work better than previous versions and allows for easy embedding of Instagram and Vine videos. You can also loop the video player, again, if you have way too much free time on your hands. The video player will also pop out to the side of your Dashboard, though we’re guessing you’re not going to do that while watching various comedy videos.

Well, let’s see how much more you’re glued to your smartphone because of these innovations and that’ll be a good gauge of how well these two upgrades to Twitter and Tumblr are.

(via Business Insider)

Last year, Yahoo bought Tumblr, but was Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer was adamant that she Tumblr operate independently.

Well, this year with the focus of all online entities shifting to producing original video content more than ever, Yahoo might just be shifting course with Tumblr. Basically, Tumblr might just have its video platform shaped into something that could be on the level of YouTube. This includes bringing in talent from the likes of YouTube and elsewhere to generate content.

Tumblr making a bid for video will be interesting in see how much they’ll improve their video player and what type of videos they’ll end up producing (hopefully, for our interests, plenty of comedy). It’s also interesting to note that parallels of the old Hollywood studio system and having talent signed an individual studio and the way that online streaming services assembling their shows and stars exclusive to them.
