The Daily Show’s Hasan Minhaj has been working on this one man show, Homecoming King, following his childhood coming to America for quite some time now.
We got to catch it earlier this year and it’s absolutely heartfelt, funny, touching, and, most importantly, damn good.
It’s having a run at NYC’s Cherry Lane Theatre, where Colin Quinn often does his one man shows, from Oct. 15th-Nov. 15th and we highly urge you to not miss out.
For storytelling and stand-up, Andrew Solmssen has been around both scenes in LA for years sharing his very personal, funny, introspective experiences and been a long time coming that he get some recognition for it.
Recently, he won the Moth’s StorySLAM with this amazing story and will be going on to compete in The Moth’s GrandSLAM soon. We wouldn’t be surprised at all if he won that as well.
The Moth Publishing Stories in Print
The cult phenomenon of The Moth Storytelling series is now putting several of their best tales from the hundreds that have been told under their banner into print. For the point of The Moth being stories that are told in person, it seems a little odd, but as they’re also well told stories, it’s a very natural move. To be included are stories from such great and funny storytellers as Brian Finkelstein and the late Mike DeStefano.
“The Moth” is now on pre-order to be released on Sept. 3rd.
Not only is she a four time Moth Grandslam winner (that’s incredibly hard to do), Margot Leitman and her stories are so hilarious, poignant, personal that we are thankful that they are coming to book form in Gawky: Tales of an Extra Long Awkward Phase.
You can pre-order the book here, which you should do in case it wasn’t obvious, and then make sure to attend the book release party at UCB in LA on Tues. May 7th at 9:30PM and/or book signing at Skylight Books on Thurs. May 9th 7:30PM.

1) The Down Syndrome’s Association of the UK finds Doug Stanhope offensive. The fact it took the DSA so long to find and be offended by a clip of Stanhope ranting on Sarah Palin and her child with Down’s Syndrome, a clip that’s been online for almost 3 years not to mention Stanhope’s reputation for going dark with jokes about abortion, denouncing AA, etc., really undercuts their public outcry.
