Pick of the Day: The Meltdown with Jonah & Kumail (in LA) 1/8

Yes, you’re reading that right. There will be a very special, one-night-only, edition of The Meltdown with Jonah & Kumail, the legendary LA weekly show at the backroom of Meltdown Comics AKA Nerdmelt Showroom on Jan. 8th, 2024.

For all that time, Meltdown was regarded by many a comedian and comedy expert (and their always sold out audiences) as one of the very best stand-up comedy showcases in the entire country. Hundreds of folks would pack into what was a storage room for a comic book store and created one of the most die hard audiences of a comedy show we have ever known. It should be noted that the front row of the show was the very same people every week and they all ended up being life long friends.

Anyways, tickets just got announced for this very special evening at the very fancy Largo at the Coronet Theatre and we’d be honestly surprised if they’re not sold out while you’re reading this. Go get at $46 a pop here.

Two best friends, who are successful comedians that started one of the best stand-up shows in the country that got made into a TV series in its second season, should be pretty good at roasting each other, right?

That’s “exactly” what happened when The Meltdown hosts Jonah Ray and Kumail Nanjiani roasted each other on stage.

Watch it here, then be sure to catch the latest episode of The Meltdown, tonight at 12:30AM.

For the record, we, and most in attendance, all like the jacket.

As they’re in their second season, Jonah Ray and Kumail Nanjiani upgraded their threads. Specifically, Kumail got a fancy mixed media jacket that he looks great in.

However, just looking good in a nice, new jacket isn’t enough for Kumail to feel comfortable. Watch it here.

Many of you have probably gotten to see Cameron Esposito’s fantastic joke about women’s periods. She got to finally do the bit on TV, though, with the added bonus of appropriately giving the crowd jelly donuts right before she delves into the wonderfully graphic bit on The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail.

You can watch a clip of it here, watch more in the whole episode at CC.com here, and then get an awesome t-shirt marking the whole occasion here.

This season of The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail seems like it really caught the spirit of the weekly live show. They accomplished that by getting things like Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer from Broad City taking Jonah and Kumail’s clothes and pretending to be them on stage.

Way more stuff like this is in store for this season. So, be sure to catch the premiere tomorrow night at 12:30AM on Comedy Central.

Rory Scovel Is Simply Magical at The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail

Rory Scovel is one of the most spectacular comedians right now and you really need to do yourself a favor and just watch everything he does. That way, you would be sure to catch Rory go for an applause record (i.e. having the audience never stop clapping) and crowd surfing while simultaneously telling jokes  at The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail.

If you love the playfully unstoppable spirit of Robin Williams live on stage, you will absolutely love this.

The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail: The Origin Story

Now that The Meltdown with Jonah & Kumail is a TV series having its series premiere on Comedy Central Jul. 23rd 12:30AM, you’re probably wondering how it, a great comedy show in the back of a comic book store, all got started.

Well, while it’s always been in the back of Meltdown Comics, it hasn’t always been hosted by Jonah Ray and Kumail Nanjiani. In fact, the show had been going for awhile, but only went to the weekly phenomenon that we all know now with the forces of Jonah, Kumail, and producer/booker Emily Gordon coming together a few years ago.

Watch and hear the full origin story here.
