Please Get Johnny Pemberton’s “Recorded For Quality Assurance”, An Entire Album of Trippy Prank Calls

The act of actually calling people on the phone is something that happens less and less and, consequently, it’s something that’s less expected these days.

So, that might just be the perfect setting for a set of prank calls, especially for someone as marvelously subversive as Johnny Pemberton.

Indeed, Recorded For Quality Assurance is indeed a collection of prank calls that comes as a surprise from as many angles as possible. Johnny blindsides his callers, gets blindsided by a few of the callers, and even, in a way, blindsides you, the listener with the help of a few audio tricks up Pemberton’s sleeve. Also, it’s a lot of fun to know that he apparently calls all sorts of folks including a strip club manager to a customer service rep at Halliburton.

It’s a great listen and a reminder that calling people is a thing we can (and maybe should) still do in 2018.

Recorded For Quality Assurance is now available on iTunes, Spotify, and on cassette via SBI Press.

Starburns is up to a lot of things these days.

On top of everything they do as a production company, they just inherited the podcast line-up from Feral Audio and launched SBI Audio. They also have a publishing arm SBI Press that’s offering up a “Tape of the Month Club” for those willing to contribute and potentially be “founding member”.

Literally, you’ll be getting cassette tapes in the mail (and a cassette player if you pledge enough) featuring the likes of:

Dan Harmon, Roy Lynch, Natalie Palamides, Dino Stamatopoulos, Johnny Pemberton, Future Ladies of Wrestling, Alan Resnick & Dina Kelberman, Dynasty Handbag, Magic for the Blind, Jeff B. Davis, Rob Schrab, ASMR Live!, Lance Bangs, DJ Douggpound, Kron, Open Mike Eagle, Erin Hayes, Sorry About Everything, Rob Tanchum

(There’ll be a way to get the tracks from the tapes digitally too).

If that sounds like it’s right up your alley, get in on SBI Press and Starburns Industries Tape of the Month Club here. FYI, there’s only 5 days left, as of this post, to be a founding member.

YouTube Orders ‘Game Grumps’ from Dan Harmon’s Starburns Industries, a Comedy About Competitive Gaming

Whether it be network television, cable, streaming services, and now YouTube Red, Dan Harmon has almost done a show on almost every place where you can watch TV.

YouTube announced their series pick-ups today, which includes series orders of projects from Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, accomplished director Doug Liman, and, most interesting to us, Harmon’s Starburns Industries.

It’ll be a scripted comedy following the players in an eSports league called Game Grumps. Perhaps, it’ll be a tinge like Rick and Morty playing Roy…

It’s been far too long since we’ve seen some of Charlie Kaufman’s work on the big screen (2008 to be exact) and it’s been a long time coming since we saw Kaufman’s latest movie, Anomalisa, get a nice chunk of change on Kickstarter.

After heaps and heaps of praise at festivals, there’s a full trailer that you can and should watch now. It’ll probably change the way you view stop motion animation from now on.

Look for Anomalisa in limited release on Dec. 30th, then wider release come January 2016.

(via Deadline)

Anomalisa is set for a limited theatrical release on Dec. 30th.

What started as a stop motion that received a whole lot of love on Kickstarter has gotten a whole lot of love on the film festival circuit.

The brilliant Charlie Kaufman wrote and co-directed, with Starburns Industries’ Duke Johnson, Anomalisa, which Paramount Pictures has acquired while at the Toronto International Film Festival for distribution very soon.

So, come Christmas time, we’ll get to see both Star Wars and Kaufman’s vision of “a man crippled by the mundanity of his life”. Sounds pretty great to us.
