Not that anyone has really thought of the late night stand-up equivalent of an EGOT (someone winning an Emmy, Golden Globe, Oscar, and a Tony), but the damn funny Barry Rothbart is coming close with having done Conan, The Tonight Show, and, just last night, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. Unfortunately, none of the possible acronyms for such a thing have enough vowels and are short enough to catch on.
Watch Barry’s great set from Ferguson here.
Nate Bargatze notches in another late night set by performing stand-up on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and we all find out that he’s just getting into the idea of having a kid though he’s not quite sure how to go about it.
It’s been a rarity that you’ll get to see comedians be as you would see them be hysterical live as you do on late night talk shows. Fortunately, the tides are shifting with shows like Conan.
Specifically, we’re talking about this awesome late night debut set from the amazing Erik Charles Nielsen.
Whether it’s surprising to you or not, traveling back in time to stop Hitler is something is joked about quite a bit in comedy. However, this bit from Myq Kaplan on his Conan set from last night is the best we’ve ever heard.
Stand Up NBC Initiative Having Auditions in San Diego in July
It’s not a new version of Last Comic Standing, but Stand Up NBC is something that up and coming comedians, especially if you’re of a “diverse” background, might want to check out (also, especially if you’re in the Southern California area).
When it comes to stand-up comedy, Jeremy Paul is a name you might not have heard of, but we hope that after watching this set recorded at Holy Fuck this past week, it’s a name you won’t forget for how damn funny he is.
Tommy Johnagin returns to The Late Show with David Letterman yet again for another great stand-up set. Let’s hope Johnagin gets on TV more soon.
First off, if you haven’t seen James Adomian, then please make your life better and go see him wherever he’s playing ASAP. Second, here’s a snippet of his bit about gay villains, specifically the Sheriff of Nottingham, which, if you also haven’t seen, we feel sorry that you’re really missing out.
Dan St. Germain and Sean O’Connor’s half hour specials on Comedy Central premiere tonight at 12AM.
They’re hilarious and you should be watching this instead of waiting for last call at whatever bar you happen to be at (we’re assuming this is what you’d be doing if you weren’t already home set to watch the latest episodes of The Half Hour on Comedy Central)
The very funny Jen Kirkman had a life changing moment while going through airport security all because of her hair extensions. Hear what happened on her latest Conan set from last night and the evils of married people.
Please acquaint yourself with the comedy of Canada’s own DeAnne Smith who just did a wonderful set on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson last night.
Actually, the hilarious Jay Larson scheduled today to both do Conan and a benefit for Boston later at The Comedy Store, neither of which you should miss. This should make you forget the rain LA.
It’ll be on TBS 11PM.
Myq Kaplan Returns to The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson
It’s good to see and hear Myq Kaplan doing stand-up once again on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson after being bumped a few weeks ago. Sometimes, guests do go too long and it’s just happenstance why we’ll have to wait to see Kaplan do another nice late night set.
The very funny Tone Bell and Shane Mauss both got to perform stand-up last night on late night talk shows. See their sets on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson where Bell got called over to the couch and Conan where Mauss got a nice amount of applause breaks.

The long awaited series of half hour Comedy Central specials, The Half Hour, returns this Friday, tomorrow, May 3rd at MIDNIGHT. Starting it off are Dan Soder and Nikki Glaser, respectively. So, don’t wait until last call to go home or make sure the bar you’re at stops playing music and puts on Comedy Central at 12AM.
We’re glad to see that Conan definitely has a great stable of regulars in regards to stand-up, not to mention that he features stand-up on a consistent basis. We’re also glad to see that a great example of this is Nate Bargatze notching his 4th set on a Conan O’Brien hosted program (he’s done two at Late Night and two at Conan).
Yet another really great stand-up set comes up on Conan. This time the incredibly funny Emily Heller seems almost effortless in her first Conan appearance and, hopefully, not her last.
Kristen Schaal Live to Premiere on Comedy Central on April Fool’s Day
Kristen Schaal’s first hour long stand-up special is finally coming to Comedy Central and we’re just glad of that news. It’s even more special, in a way, that it’s going to premiere April 1st, April Fool’s Day.
Conan has just kept the funny people that the rest of the world/Internet needs to know about rolling as Alex Koll does his first late night stand-up set.
The hilarious Ian Edwards returns to Conan for another great set relating to the very unique experience of being a black man visiting Israel.
Eugene Mirman does a set on Conan and then helps audience members with their problems/non-problems with his own special brand of advice.
Louis CK HBO Special to Debut April 13th
Well, mark your calendars for CK’s latest special as well as the inevitable and highly anticipated appearances on the late night circuit.
By then, maybe HBO will let you subscribe to HBOGO only?
The tapings for the upcoming stand-up, animated hybrid show Mash-Up on Comedy Central just finished here in LA and without any hesitation whatsoever, we’ll tell you that it was astounding. Perhaps the title of this post isn’t much a surprise to you because you saw the pilot.
Yet, based off what we got to see at the El Rey Theater (and we had seen almost everyone run their sets before hand and still laughed hard), hardcore comedy fans to people that just want to laugh, but do not know where to look are absolutely in for a treat when it airs on Comedy Central.
Here’s a list of reasons why Mash-Up needs to be on your to watch list even before there’s an air date:
–The performances were the most natural that we’ve ever seen be taped. All the comics did their ultra-tightened A-material, but were incredibly loose with it; the way you might see them if you were to see them do it live (i.e. how a stand-up set should feel)
–“All the comics” included Tom Segura, Nick Vatterott, Reggie Watts, Chris Hardwick, Pete Holmes, Jon Dore, Hannibal Buress, and more along with TJ Miller hosting. This is the comedy people should be seeing.
–The sets were around 10 min., which is significantly longer than most late night TV sets and the segments that make up a half-hour special, giving anyone watching a much better sense of the comedian
-Throughout each episode, TJ gave a shout out to the comics that were on the show that he came up with in Chicago. Such camaraderie in comedy is a beautiful thing to be seen.
–We’re already thrilled at just the stand-up sets that we saw and we have only a little idea what the visualized parts of the jokes/bits look like. Creator, Director, and Producer Jordan Vogt-Roberts has been nothing short of amazing since his work as part of the Blerds, arguably, the inception of what is now this show.
-Lastly, the stage is amazing. There’s a recreated Mario Bros. 2 select screen as a back-drop and, as TJ Miller commented at the taping, those are the world’s biggest tassels.
The Laugh Button: Zach Galifiankis Heckles Queens Of The Stone Age
According to EW.com, Queens Of The Stone Age got more than they bargained for at a recent Zach Galifianakis stand-up show. The band had apparently asked the comedian/Hangover star’s manager for free tickets to his sold out show in LA Wednesday night (August 31). While Josh Homme, Troy…
