Trainwreck, Spy, Transparent, You’re The Worst Are All Comedy Nominees for 2016 Critics’ Choice Awards

December 14, 2015

critics choice awards, nominations, spy, the big short, trainwreck, transparent, you're the worst

The Big Short, though debatable as to whether it’s a comedy, is getting plenty of love this awards season as a comedy. That being said, Paul Feig’s Spy, Stephen Falk’s You’re The Worst, Trainwreck with Amy Schumer, Aziz Ansari’s Master of None, Raphael Bob-Waksberg’s BoJack Horseman, and Will Forte’s Last Man on Earth, getting nods from The Critics Choice are much appreciated.

As you’d expect, Transparent from Jill Soloway continues to be an awards nominations powerhouse, but it’s also a pleasant surprise to see Rachel Bloom for Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Rob Delaney and Sharon Horgan’s Catastrophe, the movie Dope, and The Late Late Show with James Corden.

Jason Statham could do well to be a little more encouraging to new spies.

Paul Feig’s Spy has got a new trailer that shows how badly Melissa McCarthy wants to do field work and how critical former Transporter Jason Statham is along every step of the way.

If Spy does well this Summer on its June 5th premiere, do not be surprised if a franchise arises from this.

Cavalier agents in extremely well fitting suits get to sit this round of clandestine operations out in Paul Feig’s upcoming espionage comedy Spy. Melissa McCarthy stars as an analyst turned agent for appearing to be the most unlikely person for the job of saving the world.

Jude Law, Jason Statham, Allison Janney, and more make fun cameos as well. Watch the trailer here and wonder if you could connect McCarthy shacking up with a U.S. Air Marshal in Bridesmaids with this latest role.

Spy is set for release on May 22nd.

Rebel Wilson Joins Sacha Baron Cohen’s “Grimsby”

Sacha Baron Cohen’s upcoming spy farce Grimsby is coming together quite nicely. Already, there’s an intriguing grouping for the cast including Ian McShane, Gabourey Sidibe, Johnny Vegas, and Mark Strong.

Now, Rebel Wilson is joining on the ensemble, which might get to be as big as Paul Feig’s spy comedy Spy.
