memorial, richard bain

At this point, you know or have heard about tragic passing of Richard Bain after he took his life earlier this week. Again, he was a beloved member of comedy no matter where he was.

This Sunday, there will be a farwell in Richard’s memory at Zuma Beach in Malibu (social distancing, face coverings, and other COVID-19 safety protocol will strictly be observed) organized by LA comedian Alyssa Rusak.

Rusak’s details for the memorial:
*Sunset is at 8pm PT so show up any time before. I’ll probably be there around 6pm.
*I’ll post about where exactly to meet once I get to the beach and scope out the scene.
*I’ll also post a zoom link and/or Instagram live link for anyone who wants to join online.
*Bring whatever physical memorial items you want. I won’t be bringing much besides myself and some witch shit.”

Get more details and the live-streaming link here.

R.I.P. Richard Bain, 1982-2020

rest in peace, richard bain

Today, comedy lost a truly, unabashedly, unique voice in one Richard Bain. Bain’s relentless commitment to being silly made him stand out in any room he played. His unshakeable calm juxtaposed with how utterly zany he could get was something we’d look forward to any time he took the stage or was even just hanging in the green room/wings/bar/party/etc. Bain was just a delightful constant in and around comedy.

The first time we even heard the name Richard Bain was the second time we went to the Bridgetown Comedy Festival up in Portland. As several things fell through in going up there (namely, a car breaking down, running several hours behind schedule, and not having a place to sleep), we found ourselves at the long running Portland open mic at Suki’s. From what we had heard from the Portland comics that we knew, it could be a not so inviting open mic, especially if you were not part of the scene in Portland.

It just so happened that we went to Suki’s on the one night that they were dedicating the open mic as a farewell to Richard Bain from Portland down to LA. The warmth that Richard exuded was definitely flowing through the room. From the candor that the comics had for Richard, we could sense that Richard was something special. We still think about his joke about saying Barack Obama’s name a la Down With the Sickness.

Please go explore Richard’s comedy whether it be on YouTube, Twitter, or Instagram to honor his memory and enjoy his incredible dedication to being comedically ridiculous.

Prankster comedian extraordinaire Brendon Walsh is getting back in touch with his prankster roots with a new monthly show that will feature both stand-up as well as Brendon prank calling people live (quite a feat to do these days if you can pull it off).

Called Afternoon Delight, you’ll get to enjoy such hijinks at 4PM on a Sunday at Silverlake’s The Friend, all for FREE. This first Afternoon Delight on this Sunday should be a damn good time with Johnny Pemberton, Richard Bain, Jamar Neighbors, and Lindsay Adams.

If you want to ring in 2017 at an indie comedy show, look no further than Backyard Bootlegs at Cafecito Organico in Silverlake. The likes of LA favorites like Brodie Reed, Erin Lampart, and Richard Bain will join hosts Simon Gibson and Devin Blake for a lovely night of stand-up.

Best of all, the show starts at 8PM this Saturday, so you won’t have to worry about the show being interrupted by the LA New Year’s countdown and/or you can make it to another party before 2017 arrives. More details here.
