Pick of the Day: Jon Glaser Album Release Party (in NYC) 11/2

October 13, 2023
News

The coming of anything from Jon Glaser should be a moment for pause and planning to be present and ready for whatever that is. TV show, web series, podcast, IG livestream, etc. are all worth tuning into if Glaser is at the helm. Jon Glaser Loves Gear or Delocated should be proof enough alone for this sentiment.

So, the prospect of a forthcoming album from Glaser one of the most committed absurdist performers in comedy along with an accompanying album release show/party should cause a raise of an eyebrow and then buying of tickets.

Pretty Good Friends, the comedy record label co-founded by Eugene Mirman, is having an album release party for Glaser that’s also a “dog-centric evening of dog-themed humor” where there emphatic request to have no actual dogs in attendance.  Also, Mirman, Jo Firestone, Tami Sagher, Steve Cirbus, and Ali Farahnakian will be joining in the fun. Suffice it to say that it’ll be another unforgettable night where Glaser engages in the sublimely ridiculous (and then you’ll have an album of his to listen to afterwards!).

This very special Jon Glaser album release party is set for Thurs. Nov. 2nd at 7:30PM at Brooklyn’s Bell House with tickets going for $25.42 a pop.

The Comedy Bureau Field Report Ep. 135: Jane Harrison & Not Having to Go Up All the Time to Be a Comedian

October 26, 2022
News, The Comedy Bureau Field Report
Jane Harrison, pretty good friends, trevor noah

There is a narrative in the world of comedy that one must be going up as much as possible to be and maintain status as an amazing comedian. Jane Harrison stands in defiance of this notion as she is still one of the funniest people telling jokes in and around LA despite doing so rarely. In fact, she made sure to note to us that she hasn’t been doing comedy a lot at this juncture in her life when we invited her to be a guest. This week’s TCB Field Report talks to Jane about reimagining what really goes into being a comedian and what makes one really happy and how the two can intertwine without burning yourself out or getting jaded.

In case you missed it yesterday, Pretty Good Friends Records is going to be the newest cool comedy record label to come around in quite some time. To christen their operation, they’re throwing a launch party/show at the Bell House in Brooklyn on Wed. Nov. 16th at 7:30PM that will also debut their very first release, Maeve Higgins’ A Very Special Woman. PGF Records’ Eugene Mirman and their pretty good friends Bobcat Goldthwait, Marie Faustin, and, of course Maeve Higgins, will all be performing to make it one damn fine inaugural night for a comedy record label.

Pretty Good Friends Is Going to Become Comedy’s Newest Record Label

The Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival is already a pretty great calling card for a comedy collective and if you’re going from that to starting a record label, you’re probably going to be off to a pretty great start.

Such is the case with Pretty Good Friends who are shifting their efforts from live and film production to also becoming a comedy record label, seemingly along the lines of AST Records or Blonde Medicine. Already, they’ve got releases in the pipeline from Bobcat Goldthwait, Maeve Higgins, and Jon Glaser. We’re biased, but we’re thrilled to see that there will be a new label just dedicated a comedy, especially when it’ll be distributed by the crème de la crème of cool kids record labels, Sub Pop Records.

Mirman, in the most Mirman-esque way, on launching PGF, “One of the most exciting things about starting a comedy record label for fun with your friends is the array of confusing lawsuits happening around audio rights right now. But we are committed to endeavors that make little sense business-wise, but give us opportunities to hang out with friends and make stuff that makes us laugh.”

Just off the tail of New York Comedy Festival wrapping up, there will be a Pretty Good Friends Records launch party at the hallowed stage at The Bell House on 11/16. Get tickets here before they likely sell out quick.
