The Lyric LA on La Brea Just Reopened

The Goddamn Comedy Jam and great comedy specials for Henry Phillips and Laurie Kilmartin all took place near WeHo at an intimate, yet kind-of-spacious theatre called The Lyric (not to be confused with the lovely The Lyric Hyperion Theatre & Cafe in Silverlake).

For bureaucratic red tape reasons, they had to close up shop for awhile, but they just reopened their doors for all sorts of events. We’ll keep you in the loop about our favorites.

If you want to place a booking request for a comedy show, you can reach out to Hunter Hill at huntersayswhat@gmail.com.

Echoes Under Sunset To Be Reborn as Echoes on Pico

A few years ago, there was a marvelous, intimate performance space in Echo Park where plenty of comedy, music, art shows, screenings, etc. would happen called Echoes Under Sunset run by one Christian Chavez. It was so beloved and popular that it actually got to be an LA Weekly pick for Best New Comedy Club in 2014.

Due to some unforeseen circumstances, they had to close their doors and effectively disappeared.

Now, in 2017, Christian has found a new space just south of the Miracle Mile on Pico Blvd. (more specifically right across the street from Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles on Pico) where he’ll bring the Echoes name back to life. He just received the keys to the place last week, but shows, mics ought to be happening very soon at what will now be called Echoes on Pico.

If things go at Echoes on Pico like they did with Echoes Under Sunset, expect to be hanging out near Pico and La Brea a lot more often.

Gallery 1988 (7308 Melrose Ave.) will be hosting an exhibition of art in tribute to one of our favorite shows, Rick and Morty. The opening will happen this Friday, January 13th starting at 7PM and going until 9PM and the art will be for sale. The event itself has free admission.

Note that many of these art shows are highly attended and often form a line well before the doors open.

The piece above was made by Scott Listfield.

#OnTheHorizon

Art Sandwich Confidential is a comedy show at The Loft at Liz’s, an art gallery, where comedians will do their act then transition into stories inspired by the art on display. This time around, the art exhibition is entitled BLUE, so blue humor is the order for the evening.

With Ramon Rivas, Megan Gailey, Calise Hawkins, The Puterbaugh Sisters, Ryan Dalton, and Curtis Cook getting blue in the name of art, we think you shouldn’t miss out on this. In fact, admission is free (though there’s a $10 suggested donation to support the comics.

Art Sandwich Confidential Vol. 2-an evening of BLUE Humor is happening this Friday, Dec. 16th at 7PM at The Loft at Liz’s, 453 S. La Brea Ave., Los Angeles, CA.
