Pick of the Day: The Raggle Taggle Dance Hour with Kat Burns (in LA) 11/17

Though many comedians are stricken with two left feet, there are a good many comedy folks that can bust a move. Few such people are as accomplished as the critically acclaimed/award winning comedy/dance choreographer Kat Burns (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Key & Peele, and Wet Hot American Summer to just name a few).

Burns started to put on a dance comedy showcase at UCB just before lockdown called The Raggle Taggle Dance Hour and it was one of the more astounding things we’ve seen as it ranged from top tier dancing of all kinds, but done with a comedic flair that you pretty much never get a live comedy show (especially since we’re thousands of miles away from Broadway).

The first Raggle Taggle Dance Hour with Kat Burns since UCB went dark because of COVID-19 is this Thurs. Nov. 17th at 8:30PM and you really ought to not miss it (tickets are still available at $15 a pop). Joining Burns as the Raggle Taggalongs will be Alana Johnston, Smac, Katie Malia, Tony Rodriguez, Kent Boyd, Jackie Johnson, Vladislav Kvartin, Bonnie McKee, Gabrielle Ruiz, Scott Michael Foster, Annie Lester, Liv Mai, Joshua Parker Joseph Corella, Kent Boyd, Shea Saulino, and Brandon O’Neil as well as Coincidance, a musical improv team comprised of Philip Labes, Greg Smith, Elli Sherrer, Taryn Leggett, and Daryl Jim Diaz.

So, clear your scheduled for tomorrow and go get your tickets now.

The Comedy Bureau Field Report Ep. 52: Danny Jolles & Oh Yeah, We’ve Been Doing This for a Year

March 24, 2021
News, The Comedy Bureau Field Report
a black lady sketch show, comedy special, culturally cancelled, danny jolles, kat burns, russell peters, six parts, wga awards

Without really knowing that it was coming, we’ve been at The Comedy Bureau Field report, officially, for a year now (quarantine has a funny way of messing with our perception of time). On our anniversary(?), we’re thrilled to have the great Danny Jolles with us to not only celebrate the release of his fabulous first hour special, Six Parts, but also recount his very long, delay-filled journey through the last year leading up to this point. Danny persevered despite, like so many folks in comedy, having their entire identities stripped of them (as well as so many life-changing career prospects). Also, “hot” takes on WGA Award winners, A Black Lady Sketch Show returning next month, and Russell Peters calling his upcoming podcast Culturally Cancelled. Oh, and there’s a big shout out to the one of the best choreographers in the biz, Kat Burns.

Follow Danny @dannyjolles on Twitter and IG and please watch/enjoy/share his hour special Six Parts, now streaming on YouTube.

Kat Burns has won two Emmys for putting together the brilliant choreography on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. That’s all we should need to say in order to convince you to see her show that blends the worlds of dancing and comedy. You should note that she’s also down choreo for Wet Hot American Summer, Another Period, Weird Al Yankovic.

As far as we can see, Kat brings comedy and dance together unlike anyone else.

Thus, you should catch her big variety show The Raggle Taggle Dance Hour that will feature dancers getting a little silly and comedians cutting a rug and more. Please go get your tickets here.

If you’ve always liked the idea of playing “White Elephant” (the competitive holiday gift exchange game that often includes gifts that you wouldn’t give to people you care about), but wanted to do in a much less low stakes conditions, the very first White Elephant Live might just be for you.

Comedians and audience members alike will be going around trying to win at gift giving and there will even be a special holiday dance by the one and only Emmy award winning choreographer Kat Burns.

Tickets are $7 and you can (and should) get them here.
