Whenever Open Mike Eagle dips into the world of comedy, it’s a damn good time. There has been New Negroes with Baron Vaughn and him, which hopped all around LA before it became a Comedy Central series.

Next week, he’s going to, after all of however interminably long you feel this time has been, put another music/comedy show, this time at El Cid called Hybrid (presented by Smarty Plants). Per usual, Eagle has a fantastic line-up of LA comedy’s finest (this one will have Jesus Trejo, Marcella Arguello, Jak Knight, and Megan Gailey) and his very own cutting edge rap along with a performance from Abstract Rude.

As the flyer says that Mike Eagle is “masterminding” this event, you ought to know that if you’re anywhere near Silverlake on Thurs. Oct. 14th at 7PM PT, you ought to take that big ol’ staircase down to El Cid.

Tickets are $12.30 and you can (and should) go get them here.

Jesus Trejo‘s very first hour special is coming in the not so distant future (perhaps when a good majority of states in the U.S. have loosened some of their precautionary measure that flattened). Still, whether you’ll be staying in or out congregating outside, Trejo’s debut hour stand-up comedy special Stay at Home Son on Showtime will be premiering at the end of May and you should watch it.

We had the esteemed privilege and luck to see Trejo work out this hour in LA, often little bits here and there enjoying the start contrast between Trejo’s gravel-y voice and his playful observations and personal stories.

Get a sense of what’s to come from Stay at Home Son with this clip.

THEN, look for the premiere on Wednesday May 29th  at 9PM on Showtime.

When it comes to making a holiday TV special, you could just have a bunch of great comedians/storytellers share their holiday memories/do bits (and some stripped down version of a Christmas standard) or you could have jaunty recipes and tips for the perfect holiday party.

Thanks to Jay Larson, we could have our Mid-Century Modern Gingerbread House (a real thing that Larson makes in this special) and eat it too (i.e. enjoy the comedic stylings of Jesus Trejo, Debra DiGiovanni, Dan Soder, Lara Beitz, and Nick Thune and music of Suzanne Santo). Always the crafty, clever one, Larson made an all-in-one sort of half-hour holiday special that celebrates (and subtly roasts) this time of year.

Please enjoy it at your leisure, for free, here.

The latest stand-up special that Showtime has lined-up has us pretty damn excited as it will be for Jesus Trejo.

Trejo has perfected his craft, climbing his way carefully up through the LA comedy scene for years, to become a paid regular at The Comedy Store and having a great set on Corden. Personally, we enjoy his mix of grounded, personal observations, penchant for a bit of silliness, and his cool, gnarly voice.

So, please make yourself present at the taping for Jesus Trejo’s first special Stay at Home Son for Showtime. There are two tapings (7PM and 9:30PM) at NoHo’s El Portal Theatre and you can RSVP here.

Jesus Trejo made a great impression with his first late night set on last night’s Late Late Show with James Corden with how roles with his parents have been pretty much entirely reversed.

We guess it was inevitable that all the channels that once played music videos most of the time were going to get into original comedy programming, right?

Fuse is getting into the comedy game with their brand new show Uproarious that will mix stand-up and sketch, probably a little differently than Adam DeVine’s House Party. One Jimmy Tatro will host the show that will feature the likes of such comedy stylings that we enjoy from Jesus Trejo, Emma Willmann, and Janelle James.

Look for the series premiere of Uproarious on Fuse starting Friday, October 7th at 11PM.
