Pick of the Day: Jamie Loftus Presents: Santa University (in LA) 12/21

From the wild depths of Jamie Loftus‘ imagination (an imagination that’s responsible for doing a meta solo show about reimagining losing her virginity in several different versions) comes with her latest radical work, turning the idea of a holiday Christmas show inside out in the best, most absurd way possible.

Called Santa University, Jamie has created a “600 page musical” about an underachieving aspiring Santa trying to cut it at Santa University to be the one true Santa Claus. We have no doubt that this will be hilarious comedy mayhem that even the Grinchiest person could enjoy.

Jamie Loftus Presents: Santa University is set for Thurs. Dec. 21st at 7:30PM at The Elysian. Tickets are $15 and you best get them here.

This Monday at Dynasty Typewriter will feature two entirely different, but completely worth going to holiday themed comedy/storytelling shows back-to-back! Also, it could be viewed as a double feature of sorts for the brilliant Drew Droege!

First, Drew will host in character with Mitch Silpa obsessing over gossip, celebrity dish and in their own characters’ lives in Two Old Queens Celebrating the Holidays. The likes of James Adomian, Michaela Watkins, and Jillian Bell will be joining them in improvising the whole show.

Immediately after, Drew will be one of a handful of storytellers including the wonderful Laura House sharing their stories about their dead parents for Happy Holidays! Our Parent/s Are Dead. (we have no doubt it’ll be funny and endearing).

If you’re looking for holidays themed comedy, Dynasty Typewriter might be the place to go on Mon. Dec. 16th. Tickets for both shows are $10 right now and $15 on the day of. Get them here and here respectively.

Wes Anderson Makes an Adorable Holiday-on-a-Train Short Film “Come Together”

This might be the pretty, well-composed, adorable piece of holiday visual candy and charm that could only come from Wes Anderson that will either get you in the mood for the holiday season or at least make today seem a teensy bit brighter.

Anderson’s latest short film Come Together starring Anderson-go-to Adrien Brody is presented by H&M in the same way Spike Jonze did his uber-fun short film for Kenzo.

As far as we can see, this auteur-catered ad strategy with the most subtle mention of the products is only going to become more popular.

Whatever your stance on KFC is, you can’t help but be charmed by Norm MacDonald in an all white suit as the iconic Colonel Sanders. It’s not unlike when Maria Bamford did all those holiday ads for Target all those years ago.

This latest batch of ads features Norm as a holiday version of the Colonel and, if anything, should get you in the mood for this marathon of a holiday season.

Turns Out That Egg Nog, Like Most of Your Food, Has a Sinister Dynasty Behind It

Julio Torres, Lena Einbinder, and CH2 have “uncovered” the dastardly truth behind the seasonal, tolerated concoction known as “egg nog”.

Along with Brett Davis, John Early, Courtney Maginnis, and Ikechukwu Ufomadu, they show the world the “Nog Dynasty” (because, apparently, that many people buy egg nog to make for an empire?)
