The in person ceremonies are one of the pillars of awards season and when exactly they’ll come back is up in the air. Yet, that doesn’t mean that awards and nominations can’t still be announced.

For instance, the prestigious Peabody Awards just announced the nominees for 2020 covering almost every corner of media despite a date for their awards ceremony being TBD. Within those nominations, we’re thrilled to see that Phoebe Waller-Bridge is continuing to get accolades for her the two groundbreaking seasons of Fleabag with a Peabody nomination. Similarly, Ramy and its cinematic, dramedic look into being Muslim in the modern world via Ramy Youssef definitely belongs in this Peabody Award nomination class. Lastly, for the comedy nominees, Dickinson, Apple TV+‘s wild reimagining of the life of Emily Dickinson also secured a nomination.

Overall, It’s another strong showing from the streaming services and premium cable over the broadcast networks, which is probably a foregone conclusion at most TV awards shows now.

The rest of The Peabody Awards nominees for Entertainment are:

“Chernobyl” HBO Miniseries and SKY in association with Sister Pictures, The Mighty Mint, and Word Games (HBO)

“David Makes Man” Page Fright and Outlier Productions in association with Warner Horizon Scripted Television (OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network)

Lots of people in comedy right now, especially the big timers, are figuring all sorts of innovative ways to raise money to support the fight against COVID-19 pandemic. The brilliant, award-winning, deservingly celebrated Phoebe Waller-Bridge has opted to release a special recording of her solo show performance of Fleabag (which incidentally led her to making the groundbreaking, perfect two seasons of television by the same name).

This live stage production version of Fleabag will begin streaming on Amazon Prime for U.S. access on Fri., Apr. 10th for $5. Proceeds will go to supporting, “…The National Emergencies Trust, NHS Charities Together and Acting For Others, as well as the newly launched Fleabag Support Fund, which will distribute grants of £2,500 to freelancers working in the UK theatre industry affected by the crisis.”

Not that you needed another reason to watch an exclusive live version of Fleabag, but now it’s both for your own enjoyment/enlightenment and supporting organizations that very much need your help.

All Hail Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Fleabag with Their Emmy Wins

All Hail Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Fleabag with Their Emmy Wins

The outstanding second season of Fleabag got its proper due as it nabbed the Emmys for Outstanding Comedy Series, Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, Directing for a Comedy Series, and Writing for a Comedy Series (three of which went to the very deserving series creator and star Phoebe Waller-Bridge).

This should make up for the lack of awards for Fleabag’s also brilliant first season and really make Waller-Bridge shine in real life as much as her character does in the saintly key art for season 2.

Also, what’s interesting to note from last night’s Emmys is that The Marvelous Ms. Maisel’s Alex Borstein and Tony Shaloub won Outstanding Supporting Actress and Actor. That’s quite a sweep for Amazon in the comedy field (made all the more impressive by the fact that we did wonder a couple years ago what was going to happen with their comedy branding after Transparent had to reconfigure after the #MeToo exit of Jeffrey Tambor).

Here are the rest of the comedy winners from 2019 Emmys:

Fleabag Wins Both Individual and Outstanding Achievement in Comedy as Well as Program of the Year at TCA Awards

Many folks are saying that Season 2 of Fleabag is even a step up from the beloved first season. Certainly, this hat trick of wins at the Television Critics Association Awards from this weekend shows that feeling still holds true (Fleabag deserved more awards for its truly groundbreaking first season).

So, we’re all in agreement that Fleabag is a grand piece of television and that Phoebe Waller-Bridge, with her involvement in the next Bond movie, might just make James Bond franchise better than it has ever been? Yes? Perfect.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge catapulted herself into the upper echelons of prestige TV and comedy with the first season of Fleabag.

Since then, she’s been busy with Killing Eve, her other critically acclaimed/award winning TV series.

This is just a reminder that the second season is now streaming on Amazon Prime and, given that it’s Friday, it’d be a perfect day to kick off a binge of Waller-Bridge’s lead in Fleabag (which we have no doubt be an iconic character for years to come) diving into her own neuroses and talking us the whole way through.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge is delving into a crisis of faith for the second round of her critically acclaimed Fleabag and, according to this first full trailer, it looks to be just as unhinged, introspective, juicy, and dark (like deep-in-your-gut) funny.

See for yourself, then look for episodes to start streaming on Amazon on Fri. May 17th.

‘Fleabag’ to Follow the UK TV Tradition of Only Going for a Couple of Seasons

‘Fleabag’ to Follow the UK TV Tradition of Only Going for a Couple of Seasons

So many of your favorite British comedies such as The Office over the years only go for a few seasons, if even that many. It has a lot to do with the power structure and workflow being different (the writing is done by much fewer people before production and thus more taxing on the creative end).

The critically acclaimed Fleabag seems destined for the same path as it will end with its second season after it airs this year. While we all here in the States might lament what could have been with 3rd, 4th, and 5th season of the amazing dark comedy series led by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, know that it’ll free her up to make other amazing work such as her other show Killing Eve.

At the very least, the show gets to end on its own terms rather getting cut short and leaving us with no closure. We are pretty confident Waller-Bridge will blow us away with something else in the not so distant future.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge dazzled the world with the first season of groundbreaking Fleabag and we’ve been jonesing for season 2 ever since the season finale.

It’s been a while, but Waller-Bridge was busy doing her other brilliant show, Killing Eve.

Finally, there’s a bit of a glimpse of season 2 and it looks to be the same absolutely riveting dark comedy that Waller-Bridge pulled off so well (maybe even more so).

There is no American premiere date yet, but we’ll definitely keep you posted.

Correction: Amazon premiere date for season 2 is on May 17th according to EW.

Fleabag Reupped for Season 2 by Both BBC and Amazon

What started out as a play by Phoebe Waller-Bridge is now getting a second season in both the UK and the US after a very well received first season as a TV series.

In case you didn’t know, Fleabag is indeed a fantastic dark comedy and one of Amazon’s best original series offerings.

Here’s the Trailer for Amazon’s Latest UK Import “Fleabag”

Amazon seems to have had plenty of success with being the exclusive U.S. streaming service for the critically acclaimed Catastrophe, which airs months before it comes stateside in the UK.

With that in mind, Fleabag from Phoebe Waller-Bridge will follow the same model as it has already premiered on BBC3 last month and will start streaming here in the U.S. on Friday, September 16th on Amazon Prime.

The series centers on Waller-Bridge as Fleabag, “an unfiltered, dry-witted woman who hurls herself at modern living in London as she deals with the loss of her best friend, a breakup, and financial troubles at her café.” You might be delighted to know that Olivia Colman as well as American comedy star Brett Gelman are in the cast as well.

Get a taste of Fleabag with this trailer.
