Tiny Toons To Be Revived as “Tiny Toons Looniversity” with Erin Gibson as Showrunner

While reviving animated IP is a very predictable trend (especially while live action series keep getting tripped by pauses due to COVID-19 outbreaks along with an increase in scheduling and budgetary issues), the prospect of the return of the Tiny Toons, a somewhat niche branch of the Looney Tunes animated universe, with someone like Erin Gibson at the helm is very surprising and enticing to us.

Gibson has not only been the co-host of one of the more beloved podcasts around, Throwing Shade, but has always been an incredibly clever, outspoken, subversive writer, comedian, and performer all the way back to when she used to play Michele Bachman in Funny or Die sketches.

Gibson has placed as showrunner and co-EP with Adventure Time’s Nate Cash for this new edition of Tiny Toons, Tiny Toons: Looniversity wherein the Tiny Toons gang will learn how to become “professional” toons. Both HBO Max and Cartoon Network ordered the series, but as to which will platform will get “dibs” or however it’ll work is TBD.

In any case, we have a feeling, because of who is in charge, that this might be another animated series that is initially geared towards children, but will have plenty to enjoy that’s just for the adults as well. That’ll be important since we are still stuck inside because of the pandemic and will still be for quite some time to come.

Erin Gibson’s Collection of Wonderfully Biting Essays “Feminasty” Is Out Now and You Should Go Get It

Erin Gibson’s whipsmart humor has dazzled us for years (you’re acquainted with Throwing Shade by now, right?).

Her just released book Feminasty: The Complicated Woman’s Guide to Surviving the Patriarchy Without Drinking Herself to Death is yet another dazzling work. It gathers timely essays on the weird seemingly “not-so-fun-mirror-funhouse” we live in, but does so in a grand laugh-out-loud fashion. It’s a pleasing read while shining a deservingly harsh light on those responsible for sinking us into the aforementioned bizarro mirror funhouse.

So, you can and very much should go get Feminasty now here.

Yet another podcast makes it to TV.

Bryan Safi and Erin Gibson have cultivated their topical podcast Throwing Shade into quite the formidable comedy podcast. As such, it’s now being adapted for television in the form of a comedy pilot over at TV Land. How it will be adapted (maybe a scripted series that centers around doing the podcast like Maron?) has yet to be announced, but we’re glad to see Safi and Gibson get a pilot together.

Along with The Jim Gaffigan Show, we definitely like the direction that TV Land has been and is heading in.

Roommating Episode 4 – Porn

Joel introduces Erin to pornography.

I never really liked porn.

Ok, sometimes I watch it.

But….I like this episode because it allows Joel and I to explore the viewing preferences of men and women when it comes to pornography or borderline pornography.

What we didn’t touch on is the bigger issue – how pornography has changed the way men and women have sex in the last 25 years. For example,  I doubt in the 60’s I would have felt pressure to say to my lover “come in my face” or “all over my tits” or “i’m your dick hole, use me”.*

I’m not sure what to believe when I read studies about how porn has created hyper-sexual men. But it is interesting that, even in the 90’s, the most porn young kids had access to was watching “Real Sex” (or hearing “Real Sex” and watching static), and now they have access to hours of fisting, shrimping, golden showers, scatting, feet fucking, heavy S&M, women fucking machines, and of course, and stuff where the consent of the people involved is questionable.

* I’ve only said one of these.

Discovering porn will probably be a lot like this for me.

Roommating Episode 3 – Wii

Erin and Joel use their Wii to mock up Erin’s mugger.

You can tell how old this is because I use a RAZR for a phone! Hahahahahahah! Remember those? They didn’t have any Internet! Anyway, this was the first time I dipped my toe into voice over acting. If you listen carefully, you can hear my harsh lady voice under the voice altering filters we used to create the voice of Mugsy.
